    Quoted from cletus:

Please add a rule for playing through the full game.

    Quoted from GravitaR:

One of the functions for the VFW Staff is to look over idle machines to see if in a Game Over status while walking the aisles.

Yes we call this the "Blackwater 100" rule

    #602 5 years ago

Wish I was closer and had a ticket!

    #603 5 years ago
    Quoted from GravitaR:

    Thought you were in Ypsi.

Jezuz H. you've been to my house how many times?

    #604 5 years ago
    Quoted from MrBally:

    For reference.....

Just to clarify, nudging or slap saves to keep the ball in play is okay? What about a slide save? I know death saves are out which won’t be an issue. Some people don’t want you to do anything but flip which takes a lot of the skill out of it.

    #605 5 years ago

The machines are meant to be played. That said, the staff has calibrated eyeballs and can spot intentional abuse and will talk to those that need a sensitivity discussion.
Next time, you get escorted out.

There's a clear diff'rence to me if you are a player or an abuser... You'll be alright. Personally they need some abuse but hey I gotta do my job

How many dollars in quarters are collected from machines after each show and how many times do people ask where the change machine is?
Just curious. I heard that a few machines at PATZ made a few bucks.

About 20 yr ago, I brought a couple games (1 EM & 1 early S/S) to The Kern County Fair
as part of an exhibit relating to collections/hobbies.
The games were both set on free play,
but I still pulled in about $20 in quarters at the end of 3 days.
I got a blue ribbon for my exhibit.

and please for the love of god dont touch or spit on the playfield glass.i cant stand it when theres fingerprints or smudges on the glass.

just treat the game/machine like it was your very own.i never nudge or even shake the game if the ball was going straight down the drain.respect all the games please

Can we add something to that list of golden rules - No crop dusting!

*cropdusting: farting, then dragging the smell around with you, or farting in the process of walking

Very true! Always people stinking up these shows. My wife and 2-1/2 year old son went to their first pinball show last week at Pinball at the Zoo and at one point my wife starting cussing at me thinking I was farting then she thought my son forgot to use the potty and pooped himself lol I had to tell her nope that's somebody else busten ass. Nasty! She was so disgusted!

There is some space between the games, but not a lot, so you need to show restraint in your attempts to nudge, etc or you will adversely affect your 'neighbor' on the next game over.

What also bugs my wife & I are the people that think (and probably are) good players that have to slap the flippers and KEEP hitting your hand in the process on the machine next to it. We are starting to get vocal about that at shows and league nights. Don't effect my game by theatrics to playing your game please. I'm not one that would retaliate by doing the same to make a point.

Unfortunately some hand bumping is unavoidable when playing a row old EMs with narrow heads. It's either that or waste space, which Clay can't afford to do. Thankfully lots of people at VFW open houses flock to new games.

Crop dusting is an epidemic at VFW. I think it’s magnified by the close confines. However, this is the best show I’ve been to for overall pinball etiquette. The volunteer staff is always super helpful and generally in a great mood. The proprietor of this event can be a bit terse, but I’ve always chalked it up to this having to be extremely stressful and he (and the entire VFW club) put an immense amount of time to make this successful and fun for all.

This is my absolute favorite event of the year. Now.... can we actually get some Spring weather!

    #617 5 years ago

Is there anyone from the Chicago area going to the VFW on Friday that can haul Firefly there for me? (Preferably arriving enough before show time that Clay can get it in and set up before the show starts.) It's really going to be a mad rush to get it done in time, and I may have to take a day or more off work to get it done. Then ALSO taking a day off to haul it over there, just to drive right back (I can't stay for the show) seems like a waste, if there's someone heading that way anyway that can haul it. PM me... (And I'm waiting for Clay to freak out and call me and yell at me when he reads this, ha!)

all i was trying to saying was go easy on the game shaking or nudging the game causes splintering on the inside cabinet where the legs are attached.newer games shake them all you want but the older games that are 30,40,50 years old sometimes cant handle that.go ahead shake nudge one of the old woodrail games and see what clay will say..

    #621 5 years ago

They are made to shake and shake them is what I'll do

    #622 5 years ago

No less an authority than Steve Kirk once told me, when I owned a Central Park, that you have to loosen the leg bolts a tiny bit, to enable the game to be properly shaken to deal with all that's going on down near the flippers. Darned if he wasn't right! So there you go.

its all good i hope we all have fun and play all the games our hearts desire.

    #624 5 years ago

I respect others machines way more than mine.I set my tilts beyond friendly and nudge the fudge out of them.

    #625 5 years ago

There is a major difference between
    nudging and shaking
    vs. slamming, banging and tilting.
That nuanced difference is part of the "art" of pinball.

    Frobozz,

    PM sent.

    Thanks,
    EV

    #627 5 years ago

Turns out Frobozz needs until mid-week to finish the game, so we're still looking for a generous Chicago-an that can bring it over on Friday morning....

    Thanks,
    Eric V.

Yancy, read your email! (Though it's possible the one I have for you is out of date?)

    #629 5 years ago

Sorry, I have no way to bring a game to the show. Riding with a few friends.

I will be at VFW on Sunday. I can bring any of the gear I sell on nvram.weebly.com if anyone wants to save on shipping.

    #633 5 years ago

Will pinball life be there this year selling?

    #634 5 years ago

looking forward to another great time in MI!

    #635 5 years ago

I am so fired up for this!!! Really appreciate all the great effort that goes into putting this on and the remarkable selection available!

    #636 5 years ago

Does anyone know if JJP's Pirates is expected to make an appearance? I know last year both Hobbit and DI were well represented.

I think an original prototype with the triple spinner mech is supposed to be there.

    Ah brilliant, thanks!!

    #639 5 years ago

I spoke to Gary from Abel Electronics. He is the distributor for JJP in the area. He will have a POTC and other JJP games. He will also provide a Houdini for the show.

    Thank you Gary.

    Thank you Gary & Mark.

I'd love to get an order in with Pinball Life for pick-up on Saturday if such an opportunity existed. It would be a small one, but would save the killer shipping to Canada.

    #643 5 years ago

    Good lad Gary!!!!

Yes would also like to know if PL are attending. Also what about the guy with the really cool shooter rods?

Looking forward to playing some predator? LOL

    #646 5 years ago

Last I heard is that Terry plans to attend to play pinball. Not setting up to sell.

I have no Idea if he is bringing a van or a car. Call PBL and ask him if he could bring a prepaid order to the show for you.

hell yes! Only reason I am going this year! Excited to play some Predator!

Better still, ask him if he could bring Firefly to the show for me...

Terry's in the same carpool I am. All dudes, no games.

    Quoted from yancy:

And none of you owns a crewcab pickup? I consider it heresy to travel long distances without SOME way to haul a pinball machine, because you just never know!

Edited to add: I'd even consider letting your carpool take my truck, if someone knows how to drive stick, and you can remember to put diesel in it and not gas. Seats 5 very comfortably, 6 if someone doesn't mind straddling the gearshift.
