OK great
Thanks again for moving the show dates as to not conflict with PAGG.
Got tickets for Friday and SAT and EM tourneys and camping.
Now just need to get permission from my loving wife to be able to go to the show.

Quoted from cfh:some west coast people asking
Thanks again Clay for shifting your dates this year,
Now us left coasters have to step up and attend,
I got my tickets for Friday and Saturday, just need to get my flights lined out.
I will lobby others out here, to commit to make the well worth while trek.
You hear me Brad and Mike?
Quoted from MrBally:We can't disclose that at this time.
Way to go all FBI Comey on us
Any new T-shirt design in the plans?
I got one from last year via post
even though i was not able to attend.
But hoping since i plan on packing light, when finally attending this show,
i will have a new spare (clean) shirt to wear home.
Quoted from EchoVictor:New shirts are up
I will have $20 in hand
when i pick up a large T
in person at the show.
thanks and cheers
Tom
3 weeks from now, i will be back here, asking for the latest updates on road construction
coming from DTW to the VFW and the best way to go and what roads to avoid.
Quoted from MrBally:on what day do you plan to drive from DTW to VFW?
I arrive into DTW about 6AM Friday morning (taking a red-eye from Portland)
renting a car and driving, so not too worried about getting to show on time
as that leaves me with about 4 hrs to get some grub on the way
and still arrive in time for EM tourney start and show checkin at 10AM.
Just want to avoid (stop and go) traffic jams. I am bringing my TomTom GPS.
More worried about trip back to DTW airport on Sunday AM
as my plane leaves Detroit at 7:20AM
So probably will get up early (4AM) ,
(assuming I am not too drunk and pass out and oversleep)
to insure i have time to return rental car
and get thru security at airport in time to get to gate on time.
Assume traffic will not be too bad on sunday AM,
but that might be when construction obstacles/detours are at their peak.
I am willing to take the (in direct) long way around
as long as it is not too far off the beaten path.
I was planning to take the I-275 to I-96 to Brighton then hiway23 south to the show,
unless that route is in direct path of major construction.
Try to avoid driving thru Ann Arbor all together.
I figure it should take 60 minutes max (either direction).
Is the back of generic T-shirt design
a variant of Solar Fire /Grand Lizard / Black Knight PF layout?
Quoted from MrBally:there's the Lil Chef in Brighton just West of US-23 on I-96 that also has good breakfast.
See you at the show!
thanks for input
At first thought you were referring to WMS Pinball Little Chief at some cafe in Brighton.
Hopefully on Friday I will be going in opposite direction of most traffic
and on sunday i will be on road way before any traffic.
Also any strange traffic laws i should be aware of in Michigan.
What is policy on U-turns and school zones
and right turns on red stop lights and pedestrian right of way.
In Oregon all U-Turns are illegal
(unless specifically allowed by signage, only 2 places in SalemOR)
and school zones are 20MPH instead of 25.
And how stringent and stealth are State police on Speeding on interstate or Hiway?.
Quoted from steviechs:If anyone wants to check it out and provide feedback on what you'd want to see, let me know (it's not set up at the moment to be all that pretty on a laptop/desktop so check it out on your phone if you can).
looks fine thru my laptop
but what does the clockface icon denote?
Quoted from j_m_:I will be providing free pastries to those arriving early on friday for the EM tourney
apple danish
for me
please
Quoted from steviechs:provide feedback on what you'd want to see
what would be super cool, but near impossible at this juncture
is to somehow link each pin
as to where it is located in the various VFW buildings.
i.e. Building#2, 3rd row, 11th pin in the row
Heading out the door in a few,
to drive to the airport for my red-eye flight
to pinball paradise.
cheers
About 24 hrs since i left DTW for home; it has taken that long for the swelling in my ankles
to calm down after standing up playing pinball for so many hours,
in future I will definitely need to look for a stool, from the start.
The VFW show was every thing that I had hoped and more, and I am pretty jaded
being in the hobby for 25 yrs.
First I want to thank Clay and Debbie and all the other VFW volunteers, as you all made the show
a very pleasant experience for me. All the games were in very playable condition, with very few exceptions.
Any problems that did develop on a particular game, were corrected or fixed quickly
as soon as you notified the tech team of such.
With 350 games, there are always going to be a few that are not 100%,
but I have to say this show compared to all the others that i have attended,
had the best playing condition pins over the whole weekend, really no comparison.
Highlight of the show for me was getting to play all the Zaccaria pins,
about the only ZAC S/S pin I did not see there was Earth, Wind & Fire.
Also I liked seeing and playing all those somewhat rare Bally EMs,
like Wiggler, Capersville, Cosmos, Mad World and Dogies.
Also where else can one see nearly all of those classic Stern Solid state pins in a single row,
at least all the desirable collectible ones.
At this show I actually played more pinball than I have by a large margin compared to other shows,
that is in part because when i attend local west coast shows
I spend more time chatting and hanging with my pin buddies.
Though I did meet and chat to a few pinheads during the EM tourneys,
including Ryan Claytor and Puff Danny.
And i had a tailgate lunch on SAT with Mike and his crew of Canadians.
I stuck mainly to the Woodrails, EMs and Pre 1986 Solid State pins,
probably only played about a half dozen games on any of the DMD pins or more modern pins.
Thanks again to all responsible, and i hope to attend again soon.
Anyone within a 200 mile radius of the VFW is not a true believer
if they do not attend at least once every 2-3 yrs.
Quoted from Puffdanny:I thought about the stool as I have feet problems already but I cant play my best sitting.I think next year I'll go all 3 days and take extra breaks throughout the day.
Next time we meet and play, i think i'll demand you use a stool
to at least give me a better chance of besting you.
Taking more sitting breaks will be a must for me
for all future pin shows, otherwize i may not be able to walk again.
Quoted from hlaj78:Did anyone manage to play all of the games over the three days?
I managed to play nearly all the non DMD and Non Alpha/Numeric Pins (i think)
in the 2 days i was there.
Basically everything pre 1986.
Quoted from cfh:did anyone notice the software modifications to Flash, Trizone, Time Warp, Gulfstream and Nitro Ground Shaker? that is, did you get multi-ball?
Only was aware of it on GulfStream.
Guess I was not paying much attention
on the others.
Quoted from pinballjah:Was there a poker tournament at this show?
IT was a stealth Lo Ball and 21 tourney instead.
Quoted from BMHouze:My vote is for a special T shirt
Ryan Claytor had Pinside T-Shirts for sale at the show
Quoted from EchoVictor:Speaking of which, what did everyone think of the pencil art we added to the playfield?
Overall I liked it, especially the sea serpent.
I thank Clay for moving the date for this years VFW show as to not conflict with PAGG,
hopefully there is enough room on the calendar next year for
VFW and Pinfest Allentown and Edmonton YEGPIN show.
I should have had the worst losing hand
but since it was so bad,
after I failed to draw a straight in the last round,
I folded and threw it in the pile;
before it was announced that there were additional prizes for lo-ball hands.
Eventual winner in lo-ball (worst hand) had an eight high,
I had a seven (of hearts) high hand, along with 2,3 & 4 of clubs and 5 diamond.
So close yet so far.
Quoted from Meegis:What was the winning hand?
I think it was 4 of a kind
something like 4 jacks
I had a very good time at both EM tourneys,
despite some of the controversy and long into the night play.
The Poker/21 was good in that i always thought i had a chance even up until last round.
Have all the card decks pre numbered prior to the start
and maybe have initial two cards given out at sign up/check-in and tallied
onto players entry card as mention earlier.
Liked the idea of lesser prizes for worst hands and the least and most head to head wins.
Only thing that i would do different next time
when i attend this or any show
is bring my own anti-fatigue foam mat, and/or stool
as my feet were killing me.
