Quoted from jwilson:

The typeface should match the rest of the game though.

Yep good suggestion. Will check out if the font is out there.

I will make others up. Just need to make sure this is bullet proof before making a batch up.

PCB is completed for various pins but it does not cater for all.

#13 2 years ago

Closest text I could find.
The version classed as R&M had issues on Blender so cant use it.

Just added one extra vid

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

Okay, I'm really chomping at the bit on more info about this. I know you probably can't commit to an availability, price, ability to customize video, and other details yet, but can you please let us know what platforms this would work with? Selfishly, I'm interested in the CGC games (AFMr in particular).

Ive not looked at the CGC pins due to not having one.
I would need info on the shooter lane switch wiring etc.
If you want to help out in that PM me.

#21 2 years ago

OK one hurdle for all that want one of these is you'll have to un wire the Spooky soldered button and add spade connectors.

#39 2 years ago

Its a standard 60mm Launch button.
Going to be programmed with pre-set animations.
Price wise Ive not totalled as still sourcing parts.

Looking at increasing flash for more anims.

#41 2 years ago

Probably could do that.
Theres a nice mod for the pop already.

#48 2 years ago

Have cleaned up and made videos more vibrant in color.
Button used to emulate shooter lane switch.

Four synced videos.
1.Plain warp
2.Pickle Rick finger
3.Rick finger
5.Launch ball anim

Final proto being made for test on friends pinball before I make the first batch.

#53 2 years ago
Quoted from Palmer:

So no ability to change videos?

Its not a straight fwd thing to do on this type of display due to the size of the device and its connections.
At least not for someone with no experience of doing so.

#54 2 years ago

Here's a test for AFM launch button. Just the background loop animation so far.

#55 2 years ago
Quoted from bent98:

very cool. Any chance of making the screen bigger?

Lucky to find one that fits so no not really.

#59 2 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

Whats the screen covered with? Strong enough to not break the display from being hammered on over time?

So far Its been fine on the desk.
Proto just sent today to a friend who's going to connect to their Pin to test out.

I cant really say 100% yet as just really got started in the final build.
Most time spent on PCB and software.

I'v tried to make it easier for people to install but there is an element of fiddly ness

#61 2 years ago
Quoted from Mrsiyufy:

Could you do one for Medieval Madness Remake ?

Yep after the AFM.

#63 2 years ago

Added logo anim

#73 2 years ago

Yet to look at the start button thread size.
Have loads to do to finalize this version.

Just hit a possible hurdle on the input switching so may be redesigning the circuit.
Whilst thats been manufacturered will continue the animations for the rest of the pins.

I think I will be ale to also cater for the later Bally pins that have the same launch button.
Indy 500 being one that a mate has so will be making that also.

#74 2 years ago

Test for beaming up of cow. looks like I need to magnify that part up.

#76 2 years ago

Yep going to bring the ship closer plus a closeup of the cow

but logo will be going.

Just a slight pause in the project as new pcb's on the way

#86 2 years ago
Quoted from ToucanF16:

Great input and insight. Let’s see if Vimtoman can incorporate your idea!

Its already been thought about and in progress just waiting for pcb's to arrive.

#87 2 years ago
Quoted from Bublehead:

Not sure if you can scan the lamp input line, but MB changes the start button flash rate depending on if it is lit for plunge or for monster bomb... you could change the animation based on which flash rate you detect. That would give you four states you could sense for and provide appropriate video depending. There is sense flash - rate high, sense flash - rate low, flashing high rate to off, or flashing low rate to off. So you could display 4 videos, one for each state, if the hardware can switch animations based on an input. So for monster bash, you can play a waiting to launch ball, after you launch ball, monster bomb ready, and monster bomb used videos. A fifth video could also be worked in when ever there is no lamp signal, but this might confuse MB players who only glance to see if the button is lit to know they have any monster bombs available for the current modes running. Just some Food for thought from an interested MB potential customer.

I have that already implemented in the next pcb which is on the way.
I have the option of shooter lane switch and lamp input.
So hopefully all covered.
Animation size is limited but Im looking into expanding that also.

Then reliability testing is the next step before I release

No point in going any further if it pegs out on usage.

#92 2 years ago

OK my pcb works OK so progress is good.
Software to be continued.

One warning for all.
This is not a plug and go device.

There is some disconnecting and plugging in of connectors internally that can be frustrating to do.
During the assembly the user may damage when handling.

I will try and make it as robust as possible but cannot guarantee the device due to this. Please note.

So buyers if your OK with that then the first batch will be started when the first unit is tested out fully.

Sorry to have to post this message but theirs a lot crammed into this button.
Wires routed out , LCD display and regulating/switching circuitry that normally wouldn't be in there.

Hopefully last pcb change.
Boards are made and on the way .

This project is looking awesome Vimtoman, your mods are going from strength to strength. Can't wait to see how the final product looks.
Gutted I don't have a machine with an auto launch.

nor me . Only one pin in the house.
Going to be delayed for a bit whilst I finish off a few other mods.
Have one more hurdle to jump on this one.
Will be asking a few favours for some tests etc.

#98 2 years ago
Quoted from stumblor:

Actually fishtales is here, so potentially that could be used for testing (with the handle removed!) Happy to help with whatever you need.

Thanks

Project just on hold due to other projects but still being worked on.
Just had a new pcb delivered which has PWM lamp sensing added.

Tests to be done so will be a while yet.

This will be a limited run for friends and not a production item

#104 2 years ago

Well I have a working model.
Switch input works
Lamp PWM sense works

But I'm not happy with the complexity of the build.
Just too much to go wrong.

So have decided that the mod is not going to be released at this time.

I will make a few up for friends that have helped.

Project closed.

We appreciate the creativity and effort. Unfortunately, not every idea can come to fruition.

Still not forgotten I owe you one

I will be starting this mod up again after I finish the one Im designing now.

#108 1 year ago
Quoted from stumblor:

Great news Andrew this is an awesome mod which deserves to see a full release.
I'll be picking up a R&M in the next few weeks that has one of your proto buttons in it. Can't wait to see it in person.

Its the only one out there

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

OP discontinued the mod (actually, never released it), but I'll let him comment on the reasons why.

I'm going to restart it and yes I still owe you one....

Just finishing off Ultraman mod and then jump onto this.

UPDATE

Have redesigned the button circuit which I'm tesing out now.
So far looking good and should now make user installation easier.

Still have interfacing to pinball to sort out but getting closer for completion.

1 week later
#116 8 months ago

AFM remake version will be the first to be released.

No official logo though.

#118 8 months ago

UPDATE...

Made a big step regarding the build.
FYI...
Previously had to bore out the lamp section of the switch and had 5 wires stuffed through that section.
Not a pretty sight and button not free in movement.
Worked but was never happy with the result hence me originally shelving the mod.

Well now its free and and no wires with a bit of magic inside.

Had already invested in a test of the button pcb and that has worked really well.
Now just waiting for the main pinball interfacing pcb to arrive and an updated button circuit.
Hopefully no cock ups on the main pcb.

Spending bit of time updating the AFM animations.
Fancied some motion on the UFO's body.

Will have launch ball, Launch Bomb modes with some free running animations seamlessly playing in attact mode.

#119 8 months ago

And a TBL version started

#125 7 months ago
Quoted from Markharris2000:

Can we see what the assembled button would look like soon?

Just like a standard launch button

I will show pictures of what I had originally and the current version thats to be released.
Soon as my main playfield pcb is tested will reveal all.

#126 7 months ago
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

Love the bowling ball!

Taken me two days to build that.
Big learning curve on Blender.
Still have a few more to make for TBL.

AFM is pretty much finished .
I'm struggling in decision of "quality of video".
At present its as crisp as you can get regarding the display size.
I can fit more animation if compressed but does add bad artifacts which shows up quite a bit due to resolution of screen.

Will test out closer to the final version.

#129 7 months ago
Quoted from etien:

Hi, I know there is no limit on how much mods our pinballs can take, I am bewitched by the effort, but wouldn’t make it more logical to start with the ‘fire’ button which is in plain sight in the middle of the lockbar rather than the ‘start’ button which is sort of discrete ? ( think Potc, Godzilla, Jurassic Park and so on )

You know theres no wiring involved with that button.
Removing lockbar would be probmatic.
May look at it though

#141 7 months ago

Heres a test for the TBL pin.
Almost finished off videos. No copyright assets.
Standard Launch button housing. video shows the complete button.
Have yet a few more videos to do and testing on pinball to do.
This video shows the launch button and small bowling alley section activating.

#144 7 months ago

Tests have been completed on CGC Remakes so AFMR will be ready soon.
TBL will be next test.
New pcb's arriving next week.
Pushbuttons stuck in customs due to UPS broker cockup on Duty.

Not long before contacting all requests!!

Quoted from stumblor:

I'm in for TBL also mate!
..becuase I just remembered I drunken texted Phil on Friday night ordering one. I stand by my inebriated decision!

It's a beaut of a game. Whens it due?

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

I just received my AFM button, and it is pretty awesome! Installation with the included instructions was a breeze, and took me less that 10 minutes. The only thing to be aware of when installing is to mount the controller pack high enough to where the cable extending from the button will reach its port.
In addition to the animations, the button also flashes around the perimeter (red in my case) signifying to push the button to launch ball. I haven't played or watched a full game yet to see if there are other animations, but the two sequences I did see are really nice.
First, here is the animation when the ball is in the trough awaiting launch.
[quoted image]
And here is part of the animation during game play. Basically all the search lights going, saucers come into view, center saucer's tractor beam is searching, then a cow is beamed up.
[quoted image]

Thanks Chris for the post and Pictures/videos glad you liked the mod.
Yep noted and cable will be made longer in future.

Limitations on the displays flash storage limits the number of anmations I can add.
Shame as I would like to bump the number up.

Going to be an add on mod for the future which I will send to you to test out.

Shame there's not a Mars Attack Pinball

#220 67 days ago

Might have to get that alien. Good work!
Would you consider providing instructions for how to customize these, if anyone was ever inclined to?

Not really.. Sorry but I think it would cause problems in the long term.

Will this work on AFM or is it strictly for the remake? I can't believe this thread has been here for 2 years and I just stumbled on it!

Finally got around to installing this on my TBL. Looks great and performs as advertised.
Not gonna lie, it was a bit challenging reaching some of those connections on the bowling alley - unpluged the ones that blocked access/view was the key to success.

Glad you like it. Yep those connections on the bowling alley can be tricky to do, but I have no option around this due to the location of those connections.

But saying that it is plug and play.

TBL is the only version that has that situation.
