these posts are stupid, but why not...

I have tired of all the usual suspects and completely unbalanced polls that pit a clear winner A lister against an out dated C lister.

Lets try this with some oddballs that should be evenly matched in the D lister category for most people

Which do you prefer and why?

Lets examine them both.
They are like ugly monster cousins born the same year of Gameplans demise in 1985. Beautiful art, decent game play, oddball rules, challenging.

Andromeda >> https://pinside.com/pinball/machine/andromeda
Sept 1985 with a purported 500 made but reports are that reality is more like 250
Ed Cubela and Mike Kubin co-design; Mike's final game and some great ones from his mind with Seawitch and Warlock
Oddball design with 4 pops (1 oddball bottom pop), 1 spinner, 6 drops

Cyclopes >> https://pinside.com/pinball/machine/cyclopes
Oct 1985 with a purported 400 made but reports are that reality is more like 250 also
Roger Sharpe's final credited game design of 10 total games and probably his second best behind barracora.
Oddball design with 3 somewhat random pops, 2 spinners, 8 drops and standups behind.

Lets hear is oddball game raters.

What wins this match up and why?

Cyclopes is a much better layout. Wide open, and the lower pop is great. Andromeda has that bank on the right that makes that side feel too congested. Both have cool, weird art.

Neither game interests me to own, but I respect the cool layouts and uniqueness and both have VERY cool art.

I should change the title to click bait

I do wish Andromeda had an outlane in the lower pop like Cyclopes.

I like the lower drop section of Andromeda since it is well weighted for physical risk v reward.

I think the Andromeda art beats Cyclopes soundly, but I like Cyclopes as a character better

interesting fact that Williams apparently ran a prototype Cyclops in 1980

I wonder what this game looked like...

Owned both games for a time, sold Andromeda and kept Cyclopes. Certainly enjoyed Andromeda and the multiball, sounds are great with a cool bonus meltdown, fun spinner shot. Right side of playfield isn't as much fun to play. Too many balls just dribble out of the pops into that lane between the drops, unless you want to take risky shots at the drops, then not anything to shoot for on that side of the playfield.

Cyclopes is a great game with very challenging rules and a bonus ladder that I don't think anyone has ever maxed out, talking about the monster bonus here. Spinner shots that are meaningful, shots on both sides of the playfield, 2x and 3x playfield multipliers, great sounds with another cool bonus meldown, drop targets that have important standup shots behind them. Overall, a real keeper, my best score is just under 20 million.

I think I prefer Andromeda I just like the ruleset more and it's fun trying to get multiball and start ripping the spinner.

I'll just leave this right here for 'posterior-ity'.

lol

would be awesome if that was andromeda tied up!

Playing Cyclops is certainly a highlight of Pinburgh.

I like them both and was able to blow out my group on Andromeda this year.

I'm going with Cyclopes. I really enjoy both games cause I'm biased toward weird design and the early SS era - but Cyclopes just edges out Andromeda. Between the massive target bank and pop on the left, it really limits the gameplay to control on the right and shoot for multiball/multiplier. Cyclopes is all over and has more than one strategy for a good score - plus that left drain has caused more than one flurry of curses to fly from my mouth alone. I'd love to one day own either - both from a fun game, great era, and my quest to get one of each manufacturer/era/board set to be a better tech.

id vote cyclopes but have way less time on it. maybe im spoiled since we have access to an andromeda near me. i like both; picked andromeda in state twice, won the first time, DNO crushed me the second time lol. off the top of my head cant recall the sound effects on cyclopes but the background music on andromeda is super annoying to me and would grow old pretty fast at home

#14 8 months ago

man, look at this tight poll...

almost as good as the ladies on the cyclopes pf

apparently the one in the hand on the bglass is Josh and Zach's mom...

lol
i love that annoying music

Cyclopes and Andromeda are very similar in sound package but admittedly I have little time on cyclopes in a good audio environment.

I really need to get one to put next to andromeda!

Cyclopes by a mile... Andromeda has some killer artwork, but cyclopes has better layout, rules, and sound.

This is like asking TX or Robo-War

I'm gonna go with Andromeda though. Only 80s SS game I like more than that is probably Barracora!

I have never played either one of these. I had a deal working on a Cyclopes local to me, but a movie that my wife had to see and bangerjay beat me to it. Anyway, just by pure layout, the Cyclopes looks like the winner to me.

Jay, that punk

I think it is the borat swimsuit. All the chicks dig it and brings in all the tray one-eyed dudes also.

I should hopefully be able to make a side by side comparison soon enough...
