This is the best synopsis of pinball's appeal that I've ever heard. Big ups to everyone involved in the production of this short video.

    Nice interview.

i have always respected that guy's passion. he kind of embodies the very idea of enthusiasm, and that's worth something.

    Party on Wayne.

    Quoted from vicjw66:

    Never heard of him.

    Me either lol

    #8 6 years ago

yes yes we are all well aware there are lots of old out of touch dudes who have never heard of him.

    #10 6 years ago

I love his first 2 albums, but now I don't even know if this is the same person. http://what-happened-to-awk.weebly.com/ It is weird that he only had 2 albums that sounded like "him" and that was like 15 years ago.

You of all people are calling someone out of touch? That's pretty funny!

    #12 6 years ago

Now that's an Ann Arbor kid that grew up with 5-7 arcades right there. He's 4 years younger than me so I had just graduated when he started our smallish high school.
Always like to see him doing well.

yeah i admit i am out of touch with whatever old obsolete dudes are into. maybe you can show me how to connect with moldy middle-aged tastes. can you help me sing along to sweet caroline? i only know the chorus.

    #14 6 years ago

Never mentioned Pinball Petes? Jack Danger always wears that same ill-fitting Bonobos shirt.

Sure would, if we ever get to meet in person make sure that you remind me and I'll be more than glad to show you.

In reality, I only own about 4 shirts.

But only that one is camera-worthy Andrew WK also always wears the same ill-fitting white t-shirt.

    Excellent description of pinball

    #21 6 years ago

Why did I post an Eazy E video in here?
Because very much like Andrew WK...I like to party.

    #22 6 years ago

No idea who he is but I like his perspective!

    #23 6 years ago

Listening to guys like this almost talks me out of pinball. At least not to the point of throwing up though...

    Andrew W.K. is awesome.

    #26 6 years ago

He's obviously an intelligent guy who figured out how to be successful in the media while being a smart ass wild man. I like this Freakin guy!

This is all you need to know:

I never knew girls existed like you
    But now that I do
I'd really like to get to know you
    The girl's too young
    She don't need any better
    It's all coming back
    I can feel it
    The girl's too young
    She don't know any better
    It's all coming back
    I can feel it

    [Chorus:]
    She is beautiful
    She is beautiful
    She is beautiful
    She is beautiful
    The girl is beautiful

You're giving me moves and hits from all sides
And when you're hittin' like that, you melt my eyes
    The girl's too young
    She don't need any better
    It's all coming back
    I can feel it
    The girl's too young
    She don't know any better
    It's all coming back
    I can feel it

And though I never know you
    I look at your face
To tell you that I love you
    Don't know what to say
You're everything I got, you beautiful girl
The only thing I live for in the whole wide world

    [Chorus:]
    She is beautiful
    She is beautiful
    She is beautiful
    She is beautiful
    The girl is beautiful

I ain't got nothing to lose (Nothing to lose)
    Going to throw it away
    And talk to you
    (She looks good)
    She looks good
    (And it's true)
    And it's true
    The girl is beautiful
    She is beautiful

I ain't got nothing to lose (Nothing to lose)
    Only living one time
    And I want you
    (She looks good)
    She looks good
    (And it's true)
    And it's true

I ain't got nothing to lose (Nothing to lose)
    And I'll never forget
    When I saw you
    (She looks good)
    She looks good
    (And it's true)
    And it's true
    The girl is beautiful
    She is beautiful

    ===========

The brilliance of the song is that he writes it as an older guy smitten with the most beautiful girl he's ever seen.

He's trying to bolster his confidence by telling himself that she's too young to know any better.

He tries to convince himself that he can feel his mojo coming back.

By the end of the song he has his confidence up enough to "throw it all away" and actually try to talk to the chick.

Great songwriting from the perspective of a middle school boy trapped in a mans body.

The OP posted a fantastic video by someone who seems quite intelligent, well-spoken and seriously pumped about the hobby we all love. The only response is to applaud them both

    Thanks for posting OP!

The negative comments really back up what many people say about what pinside often degrades into. If you can't applaud someone who loves pinball and wants to share it with the world then what do you applaud?

Then there are always the negative comments about those that might see things a little differently and may not be impressed by how somebody else shows his enthusiasm for all the world to see.

Positive and energetic - hard to go wrong when you hold those two cards in your hand.

    Love that song:

    Cool interview too.

There could be a Pinside thread about Stern giving 100 pins away to children's hospitals, and 95% of the following posts would be:

They should give away 200 pins, for the price they are charging the rest of us.

Kids will be pissed when there is a bubble in their decal.

Will Stern be replacing any playfields with ghosting?

Does anyone else think that this is inappropriate with JT having worked at Stern???

It's a trick! Gary only cares about making a profit.

When is Stern going to do an original theme for those kids?

If Gary really cared about kids, he'd stop using all that photoshop clip art.

At least he's putting it out there. And getting chicks if that's what he wants.

Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion. To me that video was just so positive about our hobby that I guess I was just surprised at the negative responses.

Andrew is a killer act to witness live ..

It is? WTF is he babbling about?
"like drinking a milkshake in mechanical form"?
never heard of him and I don't want to ever again.

    #38 6 years ago

    I get the pinball enthusiasm.
I don't get the hospital orderly uniform.

What I meant was that if I don't know someone "supposably" famous and I google them, it usually triggers an "oh yeah, he is that guy from that thing" response in my brain. Everything that came up on him did not trigger anything in my brain. I have never heard of him or any of the things he has done.

    #40 6 years ago

He's never heard of you either.

How do you know for sure? Did you ask him? I'm kind of a big deal.
