So my son had an assignment in school to do a presentation on a subject matter that would be interesting to other classmates. They were to do a full tri-fold display and a power point presentation. They were also asked to include any "artifacts" to show in the display.

So my son decided to do his on Pinball since we are in the middle of a restoration on a LW3.
which can be seen here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/new-project-lethal-weapon-3

He did all the research himself with the full history and modern pinball machines and Manufacturers.

He asked if I would allow him to have one of our pinball machines up at school for kids to try out. I said that we could take the JP pinball game up there and I would set it up for him if the teacher would allow it.

Well, he got the permission so I brought the pin up to his school. Needless to say it was a HUGE hit.

He was going up against some really creative kids, some were even doing theirs on consoles (X-Box 1, PS4, etc.)

No one even came close to the amount of attention and crowds that the my son's presentation and JP pin created.

Here is my son showing the basics of Pinball

And the crowd grows

and grows...

After it was all said and done it was a huge success!! There were even teachers that were standing in line to play.

Some of these kids have never played a pinball machine before and didn't know how to launch the ball into play. Maybe some future pinheads were started here.

Great story!
Guess whose house all the kids will want to hang out at now?

#9 8 years ago

Woah..that's creepy dude.

I looked at that second pic and was like "Damn...that looks a lot like the schools I went to." Go figure...just a few miles from me.

/shudder

I'm actually kind of shocked the school allowed it to be brought in, very cool!

This is awesome. I love the Stern topper to the tri-fold board next to the Data East game. Any closeups of the board?

#12 8 years ago

Warms my heart! My favorite thing about my pin is watching young kids learn to play...and get hooked!

Cool kid - Pinsider of the day, if you ask me!

#15 8 years ago

I'm sure there are tons of parents being asked, right now:

"But But Mr. Jay bought Jimmy a pinball machine. He even brought it to school! Why can't we buy one??"

Love it, baby!!!

Anyone recognize the shirt he is wearing?

That's awesome!!!

adopt me please!

#23 8 years ago

Sniff sniff, damn you this brought tears to my eyes

#24 8 years ago

That is awesome man!!

#25 8 years ago

Wow, that's awesome. Pinball will always be around as people young and old will desire games and entertainment that exists in the real world. I love video games and technology but they do not provide the same experience that a mechanical game or board game does.

#26 8 years ago

That's awesome! Congrats!

#28 8 years ago

That does it - I'm having kids.

#29 8 years ago

Your son just earned his Pinball Emissary badge! Congrats to both of you.

#33 8 years ago

Wow! Some great replies! Thank you all! I will be showing him this thread...probably will embarrass him, but that's what parents are for!

I will do that tonight

Awesome story. I am a middle school teacher and I have thought many times about how cool it would be to bring in a machine and let my students play it. Anyone interested could come in before or after school and give it a whirl. Or I could use it as an incentive. Get "X" score on a test, you get to play. Complete all of your assignments, you get to play. Have 100% attendance for the quarter, you get to play. I know it would be a big hit. Kids are always asking me about them when I have them on my computer background when it's projected on the big screen.

Maybe I'll shoot for doing this next year.

Again-- Well done.

Unique for sure! thumbs up!

Great job txjay and txjayjr! Way to recruit more to our ranks! Pinball is magical and it really can/does bring out the best in people.
Live long and prosper!

#38 8 years ago

No doubt, good story!

#39 8 years ago

Long live pinball. This game will never die.

The only problem is that I'm living in a city where there's basically no interest.

#40 8 years ago

OP you've positioned yourself nicely to get a brand new KISS on Father's Day!!

#41 8 years ago

Awesome, TxJay. Love to see all the kids crowded around the machine. Great stuff!

#42 8 years ago

great choice of theme to put in a school.

In addition it has very pretty

led in the backbox yeah

#43 8 years ago

That is so cool. I'm going to see if my son would do it too! Great way to get other kids involved and make friends!

#44 8 years ago

Best thing ever in a school. Sounds like a success.............

#45 8 years ago

That is so cool! Jurassic Park is one of the pinballs I remember playing when I was little.

#46 8 years ago

Evidently WOMPER doesn't like this at all.

#47 8 years ago

Did he open up the machine to show everyone how it works?

Just thinking about it, it would make a great science project too.

#48 8 years ago

Spreading the disease! Way to go!!

#49 8 years ago

This is sooooo cool. Did you son get a grade on this? I can see some of those kids pestering their folks for a pin now.

#50 8 years ago

Nice, I bet your boy made a few friends that day. Nobody ever brought a pin to school when I was a kid. lol
