A little this or that? Which would you prefer, amh vs gb? My kids and I are debating the issue. Greatly prefer input from those who own or have played both.

I can separate the game from the lead designer. Kinda like Michael Jackson the Artist and the person. So, please, let's just judge games, not the creators. Don't want this to turn into a Trudeau bash fest. Although, I 100% detest what he is accused of doing and hope he is locked away forever if guilty.

Fair enough. Game vs Game; i still pick AMH While GB wins hands down in the sound dept (which is AMH's biggest negative); i think AMH wins all other categories - rules, flow, layout, toys, etc...
I'll edit original post to keep it a game vs game topic.

Agreed. I love and own AMH. GB, I wanted to love, but it never clicked for me while playing.
Ghostbusters. Far better theme, a lot of unique toys (premium), amazing hand drawn artwork, excellent audio package, and great custom callouts by Ernie Hudson. One of Sterns best.
Also, dozens of people worked on Ghostbusters to make it great, not just one person.
America's Most Haunted looks cool but I just can't get past the games terrible callouts.
I'm the same way with separating a person with a company he worked for. GB theme is hard to beat, and the excitement of GB in general. The game is difficult for everyone, especially kids. Haven't played enough of amh, but the little I did, it was cool and very appropriate for little kids.
Quoted from konghusker:very appropriate for little kids
Hmmm... There's a lot of innuendo in the callouts. Nothing bad enough that I feel bad playing around my 5 yr old, but other parents might object to it.
I've played both gb pro and premium and have only had the opportunity to play the visual pinball version of AMH. I love the callouts on both.
AMH has some of the best callouts ever!
“Going to infrared... for some reason.”
“You sure know how to use your balls.”
"America's Most Haunted... for when you can't afford the other guys... or gals"
There's another callout in there that I can't think of the exact wording. Something to the effect of "the second best ghost hunting game".
It cracks me up every time.
I don't usually come into choice threads and say neither, but neither.
Neither of these two games clicks with me. GB doesn't because of the linear nature of the ladders and how much I hate hearing "Who brought the dog" over and over. AMH because although it's an OK game, it seems only partly baked. I thought Spooky did a good job as far as they went, but missed the target.
And those are just opinions. I know that some people really like GB and some really like AMH. I just don't think they are particularly fun.

Like I said, I haven't played it enough, but remember my kids enjoying it. I know it wasn't really bad though. My kids play my met and acdc, so I'm sure it's not dropping F bombs or anything like some games. Also, GB, this man has no dick. Lol. My kids watch the GB movies, so to us it's not a concern, but would be to some.
-I do turn the family mode on BTW so any cussing is beeped out.
-I was mainly referring to it being more appropriate for a kids skill level rather than concern on call outs.
Why just those two games? Ghost theme? I only played AMH a few times and wasn't that impressed. I wouldn't think they would sell cheap being rare and can think of many games that are better for less money. GB was fun for a while but I just don't enjoy playing it anymore. It just seems hard to get anything going, clunky play, cheap drains, unbalanced scoring, and a lot of wasted potential. Word is that you have to spend a lot of time "dialing it in" but would rather see a game play well before I even think of buying one.

I get hating wbtd but there are other ways to start the other ladders first to mix it up. GB prem gives you a lot of control on where you want to start from skillshot.
AMH just didn't click with me. Nothing personal. Some games are like that with me. This one happened to be one of them, but I appreciated the effort.
As far as GB, I tried it out prior to purchasing. Saw a lot of praise at the beginning and then saw more bashing than praise in this forum. So instead of believing everything I read over here, I gave it a shot. I honesty enjoyed it enough to make the purchase and I haven't regretted it. It had that one more game feel...especially after a brutal game before that. It's a tough game and packed with toys. I truly believe a final code update will make this game a keeper (which is often a hard thing to say in this hobby).
I love everything about Ghostbusters except playing it
I have had a lot of fun playing AMH and it does have some funny callouts
so for me its AMH
Give me Ghostbusters, but I really like AMH too.
GB needs that announced final code cleanup and polish and then it could be great. It desperately needs some score balancing and finish, but it already has a fantastic layout and a pretty good set of modes.
I love AMH, the humor is off the charts and the rules are great. It's not repetitive either, and you can choose your strategy and approach freely. It has some issues though, and the homebrew feel is definitely there. Full disclosure, I have one and plan on keeping it a long time
I've played GB a lot too, definitely prefer premium over pro. The theme integration is great, and it's fast and exhilarating. I don't like the ladder approach, and playing the same things (e.g. who brought the dog) time and time again. I'm definitely thinking about getting a GB at some point, like it a lot
It's a tough one, I'd get AMH and then later on trade it to a GB premium. Feels like it's easier to find a GB than it is to find an AMH
I miss my AMH dearly.....I liked the difficulty, yet it felt fair....GB to me still has a lot of cheap drains. Both good games, AMH just better.
I own both.
Others have mentioned that AMH plays like a homebrew, and I agree although I don't think that's all bad. It has some really creative stuff, like the ramp with the jump spot it in, and although the sounds in it aren't sampled at the highest quality, the theme integrates the homebrew nature of the game with the sounds and everything else. It is definitely a funny game, which is difficult to get far in, but it has the ghost where you can go bash on it somewhat if you're not great. Overall, it's extremely solid and I don't expect it to go anywhere.
GB, first, I like the Premium much more than the Pro, and that is usually not the case for me with machines. In fact, GB is the only premium I have of any machine. Except the translite, the Pro translite is FAR the best one. I play GB the most of all of my machines right now, although that's partially because it's the newest game and I have been so buy I rarely have played it.
Having said that, GB does have some oddities I don't like. There are two video modes, but you always get to pick which one you want to play. One of them is completely random and basically worthless. The other is worth a TON of points (too much, I think) and has odd software quirks in it. It's called Don't Cross the Streams, but you CAN cross the streams in some cases, and sometimes the game automatically moves your zapper in the wrong direction when it shouldn't, meaning you can't win. Neither video mode is really "fair", and the fact that you can skip one always is just silly.
The gameplay on GB takes a while to figure out. You really need to be able to play it a lot to start developing strategies. Once you have, you can really play the game in different ways, which I do appreciate.
If I HAD to pick just one, I would probably get an AMH if I was buying because they are rarer and if you know where one is for a good price, you won't necessarily have that chance again. If I was told price didn't matter but it had to not leave my gameroom, it would be really close, but I think I would pick GB by a hair, just because the theme is one that I really love, and having a good game with a theme that I love seems really rare.
Both of them for me though are top ten games.
Well, since GB is absolutely the worst and most vile thing humanity has ever created in the entirety of history, AMH wins by default.
Oh hey, just played Ghostbusters for a minute again (waiting for drywall to dry sucks) and it made me realize I should say...
Ghostbusters is a terrible game if you only own one or a few. It has linear gameplay, so you tend to see certain things (Who Brought the Dog?!) over and over again. I don't find this a problem in a larger collection, but if it was the only thing, it might get old fast.
I have both GB Premium and AMH and I would pick AMH without hesitation. I have had AMH for over 3 years now and I still play it regularly. I also still hear new callouts, some of which are genuinely comic gold. The playfield on AMH may be somewhat less refined than a modern Stern, but it's fun to shoot and the rules are top notch. GB may be more of a looker, but it would take a monster code update on GB to close the gap. The scarcity of AMH and the production issues with GB can't be overlooked either. Either game will require more dialing in than average to get it to play right.
GB has the killer licence but unfortunately the game didn't fully capitalise on it. Game is ok but has a number of design flaws which are ultra annoying. A guy with 40 years in the industry shouldn't make mistakes like that. Looks good with the ZY art. Code is ok but linear and the scoring is crazy unbalanced.
AMH is an amazing effort for a first pin. Lots of variety in the way you can approach gameplay, and scoring is balanced across the modes. Always challenging to play. The only thing I consider "homebrew" about it is the backglass (yep,it's glass!) artwork which is only "ok" .. playfield and cabinet are good. Quality of materials (mostly BW repro parts) and electronics are first rate. Call outs are lol.
Win to AMH for me.

I recently found myself missing our old AMH too. So much so I may put up the MM we traded our AMH for to see if we can get one back. I'd love to get ol' #41 back here but I doubt that will happen.
Quoted from rotordave:A guy with 40 years in the industry shouldn't make mistakes like that.
He shouldn't have had child porn either....as though John Trudeau has anything resembling a baseline for doing the right thing in life.
AMH is definitely my choice. I got one a little over a year ago because it is my dream theme. I love how it makes fun of those cheesy ghost hunting shows. This is the one that everyone wants to play and likes the most when I have guests over. The rarity of only 150 makes it even nicer owning one.
AMH - ART GB + ART - EVERYTHING ELSE LOL
My pick is AMH GB pisses me off too much and the ghost busters theme get's old quick
AMH for me. It's a blast with great code and is a real challenge. Maybe the best coded target bank in pinball. I truly hate GB, the sounds grate my last nerve, the linear rules make it stale fast, and the layout is terrible. I do like the toys and art but I just really do not enjoy playing that game.
Quoted from JeffF:I recently found myself missing our old AMH too. So much so I may put up the MM we traded our AMH for to see if we can get one back. I'd love to get ol' #41 back here but I doubt that will happen.
I think I was #52 and yep thought has crossed my mind too
Quoted from SilverBallz:GB is better for families because it was created with kids in mind.
Gross!!!!!
Quoted from SilverBallz:Ive played both. GB is better for families because it was created with kids in mind.
Wow
Quoted from hank527:AMH hands down. The shot geometry in ghost busters sucks.
if you align your flippers correctly it fixes this. Factory alignment is NOT the alignment the game was designed for. Raise them up so the alignment marks line up with the bottom of the flipper rubber. Makes 1000% difference.
I had AMH for about 2 years and I’ve owned GB since launch. I love GB. Great art, features, sounds, lightshow, callouts, and each mode feels unique. I wish the right ramp was wider.
I played AMH like crazy when I got it, and beat the wizard mode after a month. I just really stopped playing it after that and ended up selling it.
Quoted from Who-Dey:GB and it’s not even close. Absolutely a no brainer.
Agreed... and this is coming from a horror guy who loves the Spooky crew and REALLY wanted to love AMH.
GB isn’t without its issues (I’m really hoping they semi-ditch the linear code in the final update), but a dialed in GB Premium/LE is an absolute blast. The artwork, sound, and rule set obliterates AMH, and anyone who says otherwise is obviously unprepared for the coming of Gozer.
