I'm working with an AMH which we'd like to operate, but have found the trough reliability isn't what it needs to be. It often kicks out a ball and immediately ends the ball as soon as it's launched. It seems to do this on the second ball of a game mostly but I've seen it on first and last balls too.

I've run though the switch edge test which appears to detect correct switch movement, but it seems like there's a timing condition which causes the failure. Since this trough us made of long mechanical micro switches which take the full weight and impact of ball movement, I'm wondering if anyone has thought about redesigning the trough to use a set of optos instead. It looks like we could repurpose a Williams trough design and make this game much more reliable.

Anyone ever convert a switched trough to an opto trough?

Ball trough is the only reason amh would give operators trouble and I have not heard of any retro fitting of a better one, spooky knows it has its limits and hurts an otherwise stellar rare game, good luck and I hope you can find something.home use it is fine but route no so much.

    Love that game.

Hellevator is always my issue. Can never get the thing to work perfectly for more than a few days. Otherwise one of my favorite games in my collection. So campy and cool

I believe it has to do with the number of optos the Ben Heck board can support.

I understood that spooky was having trouble with trough patents and this degisn was a way around them but the trough in Rz is great

I didn't even know people were still having trough issues. I have had AMH since 2014. I did some usual adjusting of the trough switches when I first got it and I have never had a single issue since. Maybe 2000 plays. Just try bending the switches and adjust the coil strength to where you are sure the ball isn't being hit so hard that it's jumping.
