rosh/jim/jolly/joe -

had the op to play Houdini and speak with both Jolly and Jim @ pin a-go-go. given your upcoming shows this weekend, I have a suggestion that may improve player experience when playing Houdini. as you are aware the lower pf is not well lit. in addition, your flipper bats are black rubber with a rust orange ornament. they are set against pf art which is black/dark purple. they do not stand out for the player. they are dark against dark in the poorest lit area of the pf.

the first two images below are from pin a-go-go. the second set of two are from Allentown, in well lit conditions. I didn't consider the Dixon hall poorly lit, but as you can see it was not easy to see the flippers. furthermore, for a game that offers play features of reverse and reverse/inverted flippers it's important for the player to be able to see which flipper has been activated by a push or release of the flipper button.

I believe your players/customers will have more fun playing if you can better contrast the flippers from the pf. my suggestion is to replace the black rubbers with white or yellow. if the entire bat itself is black rubber consider swapping them out for a lighter color.

More important is that we can't risk any secret stuff accidentally being captured in the background getting published.

You mean like ... could be a bigger seller than Harry.

his hand comes out of the playfield now !
that is so cool.

for cleaning your hands before working. sand acts like an exfoliant to scrape all the dirt/oil/grease off, leaving your skin silky smooth. beach sand is the best.

Does anyone know what the starting item is on a pinball machine assembly line?

will there be a gameplay stream featuring Zach Sharpe and Keith Elwin?

#1011 3 years ago
Quoted from rosh:

Left side shots were tweaked slightly and flow better with less chatter. The narrow right side shot was also tweaked, if it is any wider it would be no the 1/16 of an inch. Whatever little tweaks Joe did really cleaned things up as far as now it shoots.

these were genuine concerns, having played one of the prototypes. new gameplay video will allow everyone an opportunity to assess how well things turned out.

the AP group seemed genuinely interested in, and definitely took note of, player feedback while on tour. I feel one of the smartest things they did was to ax a few shows and get back to work to finish the task at hand. also like the approach of holding back on the promotion of the game until they are in better position to ship/deliver.

Quoted from rubberducks:

I don't know if it has been discussed or not, but I'd strongly suggest revisiting the AP logo.

inclined to agree.
not feeling the current font choice AT ALL.
perhaps something bolder/stronger.
something from past/traditional america.

and unfortunately,
the logo all of a sudden looks like Jack Sparrow's compass.

Quoted from dirtbag66:

The modes where they mess with you flippers is crazy. Reverse flippers is one thing, but reversing the switch completely (button pressed = flippers down, button unpressed = flippers up) was maddening!

re: reverse/reverse-inverted flippers
as a modestly accomplished player, learning to improve my skill set in these two disciplines isn't something id relish. more than anything, i feel they should be categorized as 'gimmicks'. i dont even think they are 'cute'. accomplished players arent going to interested in rewiring their brain. would love to hear how top players felt about the subject. i cant believe the casual/rec player is going to like them much either. while entertaining/comical the first time, long term they will be stupefied.

Quoted from woody76:

I am very interested in seeing how the code is coming along.

if production games are indeed shipping in the near term, it would be nice to SEE how the code updates and the Balcer 'tweaks' enhance gameplay when compared to the prototypes from 6 months ago. disappointing that only a single game of video has been published during the last six months.

#1627 2 years ago
Quoted from luvthatapex2:

Not true, here is a new video published on Nov 27,2017. Josh has been updating the group at every turn during game development.

that is the one i was referring to.
the one single game of video in the last six months. the opportunity to showcase the improved lighting, current/most recent state of the code, and flow/gameplay resulting from Balcers design tweaks; lasted one game. everything else is from 6 month old prototypes. the written updates are certainly appreciated, but with games going out the door soon, im sure people were hoping for more to SEE something more. if you dont want to concern yourselves with how the game actually plays, fine. im sure the match sequence is of more importance.

In the days of $7000-$10000 pins, match games are a little more rare.

re: pinstadium lighting

all manufactures should add controlled lighting packages as standard.

Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

I don't think Houdini needs it personally.

Quoted from vireland:

Agree. It's lit very tastefully, and works in a dark room just fine.
