An absolutely wonderful, testing machine. The wife and I both love playing Houdini. The teenage kids even get a kick out of challenging the old man. A huge well done to American Pinball.

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:Have somebody send you the beta
I don’t know what that is so I guess not...
Thank you all, I’m hoping it was only a computer glitch and nothing more sinister. It might be safer for me to wait for the update from AP. Things have a tendency to go south very quickly in this house.
Regards.
Quoted from riggy469:Houdini has returned to the grave. ☹️
Opened a support ticket today with AP, looks like the main power supply is dead.
[quoted image]
Oh no, I hope mine isn’t headed that same grave.
Quoted from RipleYYY:still in 100% factory
this time with a nice ENCORE BONUS (6M)
[quoted image]
Wow, absolutely amazing, would love to see a video of you playing, a man could learn a thing or three...watching you perform....
Quoted from Optimiser:I have my first problem with Houdini:
I tilted the machine then turned it off. After turning it back on and hitting the start button, no ball comes out in the shooter lane. I checked the switches in the menu and tilt was red which I reset back to green but still no ball being presented in shooter lane. Also flippers are inactive when starting a game. I am running softwarte version 19.4.7
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Check the lead weight on the tilt, mine did the same thing, it was simply the weight had come undone somehow causing the circuit to tilt.
Quoted from rosh:I looked at adding more (and maybe I did), but, the reality is, already makes references and jokes about rock band themes, super hero themes, alien themes . . .
Managed to drag myself into wizard mode a couple of times. All I can say is.......Josh....you are an evil wicked genius.Never been so rooted playing a pinball in my life...(Rooted is Aussie slang for tired)..
Updated this arvo, not a single problem. Plays like it’s been re-invigorated. Not as much waiting around for things to catch up. Well done...
Perhaps in the next fix, can get the lights back on just a tad quicker after the ball misses the trunk. Just a thought.
Tech; Hey guys. I just noticed the shroud around the stage curtain on my machine is rotating to the left every time the curtain opens. It only just started so obviously something has come loose. Any ideas?
Quoted from Soundkillr:This is held on with 3m double side tape. I took some vhb (very high bond) 3M tape and replaced mine. You need to loosen things some to get it out, but stage removal is not necessary. You can press it back in place, and it may hold for a while, but count on replacing it with new tape eventually.
Thankyou...Wow I can’t believe a part is held in place by tape....
Quoted from brenna98:I made this quick video for you:
Sorry I’m not an actor.
I’ll make a better one when I have time.
Now that’s what I call great support from a pinball company, others could learn from this...
Tech: Greetings, just had a major meltdown of the Houdini stage, game only has 1150 plays on it. Might be wise to keep an eye on the welds keeping the curtain attached to the rest of the stage..see attached pics..Might of got a better hold with blu-tac or bubble gum...

The parts arrived from USA to my home in Sydney in 7 days using DHL. Great service indeed. Another job well done AP, looking after your customer’s beautifully.
Quoted from mbelofsky:I roll balls into it during test mode and test it every time I play (which is less and less since I want to play - not test) and the switches register every time.
when it happens and I am playing, I stop and go into test mode and both balls (usually two balls in the lock) are registered.
Not sure if this may help. Check the wires and soldering on the top of the switch on lock 3. The orange wire on Mine became frayed and slightly came away from the connector.
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:I have way more than 1000 games on mine, have not gotten around to installing the Cliffies… and yet nothing. No chipping, no nothing
Same here…a wonderful machine…
Ahaaaa, I’ve got it. Balcer and Kugler spelt backwards on the safe in the top left corner of the back glass. You cheekie pair of rapscallions…..
Mind you if this has already been seen then I’ll just skulk back into my corner…and assume the foetal position.
I just love my Houdini, sure it misses the trunk sometimes, but I find that part of the appeal and charm of the machine. Never know what to expect. And more extra balls than a Russian weightlifter on steroids.
Mine is a keeper, will be going to the grave with me….
Also, on two occasions after playing, the knocker hit and the word “Match” came on the screen. How does a match occur?
Thanks to all those who have helped me so far!
Match is like a free game, if you were paying to play that is. Not on free play. Some call it lucky number. If the number that rolls up at the end of the game matches the last number in your score, then, pop……match…
Quoted from scbill88:My next newbie questions are gameplay questions.
When the ball is launched into the trunk it is announced “ball one locked”. What does that signify as I have not seen any benefit?…yet.

Brilliant, the above conversations are testament to how good this thread is, and the support you get from the people in it….way to go Houdinians…..
Quoted from chewiec:Hey everyone. I am aware that is the Houdini thread but I am interested in both Houdini and Oktoberfest. For those that own or played both. What seems to be your preference? I enjoy modes, ramps, speed, plus good flow. Bottom line, which one is your favorite to flip? I haven't had the chance to play any of them and am restricted to just youtube videos of gameplay. They both look great so it is difficult to decide which one. Thanks everyone!
Houdini…..
I would like to give a big shout out to Dave Brennan from API. This guy goes above and beyond in helping us all over the world fixing our first world pinball problems…
Quoted from bobukcat:A little birdy just tipped me off about something being available: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13-fUJHnmS8LUMhx79pwrdueplQhHzla2/view?usp=sharing
Or if you prefer: https://www.american-pinball.com/support/updates/
Thanks for the tip….
I finally confirmed it with it happening a third time. I got the seven letters to spell HOUDINI. The master magician mode starts, and of course I can’t successfully complete it, and I get timed out. Before the latest code you would just continue on if you had more balls up your sleeve. Now, after the latest code update the game finishes at the conclusion of master magician mode, regardless if you have more balls to play or not.
Not much of an incentive to collect the seven letters.
Wondering if this has happened to others?
Or has it been changed in the latest code update to conclude the game at the unsuccessful master magician mode?
Quoted from pinballinreno:There is a setting to allow the game to continue after the master magician mode.
Ahhh, many thanks.
Quoted from zahner:I think all pins eventually get old or at least take a back seat. I loved my twilight zone and had it for a long long time. Then I wanted something else. For me and my lineup, Houdini remains a constant go to game. It’s such a deep game, as was TZ, that it continues to bring me back for more. I love the game and see it lasting a long time
Fully agree, love this game.
Quoted from Beez:It’s going to be a FUN Holiday weekend!!!! I’m in the club!!!
[quoted image]
Congrats, you’re in for a great time…
At that stage just hit one flipper to select. ie, left flipper to select reverse flip. Right flipper to select reverse and upside down x 3. Have fun. Love this mode.
Quoted from bobukcat:But doing so will put you into chimp-flip penalty mode where you kill the 3x jackpots until you stop doing it. I almost always do inverted too, I always cross my arms (I had a little practice doing that from WOZ) and always try to not chimp flip but when you have seance and or trunk MB going too it is REALLY hard to not end up in the penalty box for at least a little while. Those magnets during Seance are wicked!
Absolutely love this mode, it’s the first one I choose. Cross armed. But isn’t it damn annoying with that bloody monkey telling you to not chimp the flippers when you have more balls coming at you than a porn star…
Quoted from big-c66:Man the more I look n watch videos of this game makes me want it. I’ve been leaning on Deadpool or TMNT but this pin really has a lot to offer man I want them all Lol.
What is y’all’s opinion on here talk to me people. LOL
Buy it. It’s a great game. Very challenging.
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:Hm? I'm not understanding the issue. You don't like the red lamps?
The poor chap has bent his target, one positive is he has a wider alley to shoot….ha…
Holy dooly, if I’m looking at the back glass from an angel, then I’m dead. Don’t think I’d like that….ha.
Quoted from wolftownjeff:The huge fat ones make it hard to see the backglass from an angel.
Quoted from bobukcat:Sad news for us Houdini owners and fans - as reported on The Pinball Show Josh Kugler has left American Pinball. Josh was always so engaged with us on here, more so than any other manufacturer I have ever seen and the continued code improvements so long after game release just made the whole experience even better. rosh I know you're still on the forum but we're really going to miss your activity here listening to suggestions, complaints and helping owners of all A.P. games when they had issues. Thanks and best wishes on whatever your next adventures are![quoted image]
Here here, we’ll said…
Quoted from Stebel:Wondering if other get a ball hang up behind the key lane sign.
Indeed I do…and lots of other places too. But hey, that’s part of the fun for me…enjoy the game.
Quoted from PinJim:I joined the club today. Can’t wait to get it set up, get my sub hooked up, get a shaker, etc. I’m stoked!
[quoted image]
Great choice, congrats….
