After the crappy news on the JJPPOTC, I'm so excited to get my Houdini Wednesday!

#3028 1 year ago
Quoted from vireland:

Software is really coming along, too. There's now a "player's choice" card option in the Magic shop hat now that lets you pick your mode at the stage and the skill shot has different rewards for the target you hit. Some new "gag" pulls from the hat, too.

That's great to hear! I bought the game because its beautiful and challenging bought a pinsiders game that he received off the truck last week then the next day my shipping company picked it up and shipping to me. Bought to have something now as I waited for JJPPOTC and after news today I'm glad i did and also not looking good that i will be staying in on my CE but time will tell...Excited for my Houdini

Quoted from vireland:

The people that call Houdini hard need to spend more time with it. It's definitely a challenge, but I wouldn't call it hard. And there are funny things here and there, like when you do really well collecting jackpots, the callouts get more frantic until you get a "Holy <bleep>!" in a manic voice. Really cracked us up the first time it happened, and generates a smile even now.

Awesome anything straight away to check out of box?

#3032 1 year ago
Quoted from vireland:

The unpack checklist Houdini ships with is pretty spot-on. Basically just check coil strength for the lower catapult (that shoots to the chest), the upper VUK (that feeds to the lower catapult- it should BARELY make it up the VUK so the ball is slow enough not to fall off near the end), and the upper catapult (again, so it's slow enough that it barely makes it into the upper wireform that feeds to the right flipper). Maybe turn the ball serve to the shooter lane coil down and the flipper coils set to 21 or 20. They were a smidge too strong on ours and caused too many airballs until we turned them down. There's also a ball trap on the right side that AP is making a diverter for. No idea if it's done and shipping with the new pins or still coming, but if you get an airball on the right, the ball can get stuck under and to the left of the Spirit pointer.
If you're putting it on a route and install a dollar bill acceptor, note that it will be a pain to close the coin door because the DBA hits the coin box unless you push the front edge down slightly (like 1/8" - it's that close to being right) as you close the door. This is because the cabinet for this and AfMr are slightly out of spec to the small side (hence the plastic lockdown bar "bumpers" on the inside sides of the lockdown bar of AfMr to keep the lockdown bar centered because it's too big for the slightly-too-small-for-standard-Bally/Williams parts cabinet). It's an annoyance, but I blame Churchill for that since they knew they had a problem with AfMr and didn't correct it before they made the Houdini cabs.

I'm in and love it! Received it yesterday, really got to admit this is a heck of a game for their first game..5-10 games in and finding shots and able to hit them all. WOW this made my day after having to get out on my Pirates CE...and dang an update already...gotta go

#3225 1 year ago

Never paid attention that my start button doesn't even light up....checked bulb and good... any ideas where problem may be? Remember reading somewhere about a dip switch caused this on another game?
Thx for any help

#3250 1 year ago
Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

Don't know if this will help. But here's a pic of the back of the button and wires.

That's how mine looks. .. any chance you could get me pics of boards on side of machine dip switches?

#3255 1 year ago
Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

Check the board to the right. Lower left connector. You just may have a loose wire here. Or that upper right connector. But you wouldnt have lights on coin door either.

Man you rock! That second picture see the fuse? Mine doesn't have one...put a quick jumper in and it lit up! Any chance you could see the fuse size?

#3257 1 year ago
Quoted from MT45:

Pulled my PF up and yanked the fuse out ... it says
T4AL 250V
Hope that helps
Edit - I forgot to measure the fuse for you so ... just be sure to measure the slot on your board as I think this fuse is the 20mm size (shorter than standard PB machine fuses). Reason to check is that I "think" they make the T4AL in 2 lengths 20MM and 30MM

Got it! Thanks so much my pinball peeps!! You rock

#3259 1 year ago
Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

Confirmed, the shorter version.
Everyone else's second fuse holder empty?

Yep second empty! And thx again for the great help!

#3264 1 year ago
Quoted from rosh:

are they getting their bouncing off mini-standup targets or when coming out of the scoop? In either case, likely power set to high ether on the flipper or on the scoop eject.

wonder if it is sitting somewhere in the cabinet.

Looked all over

Quoted from Habeboo:

Just wanted to post a few pics and video of our new Houdini topper. It features 2 levels and glowing, pulsating and color changing eyes. Houdini is a really unique looking game and I wanted to make a design that really accented the artwork properly....

That scoop protector looks good, does it glue on or is it held down by the two scoop screws on the top?

2 top screws and front clip and pressure from left and right rails. Great design

I've never had issues with catapult until last week. With the heat wave going thru the power company must have dropped house voltage to 110-113 volts or because of everyone's usage was high, not sure...and finally today I'm back to my norm 120-122volts house voltage.. and everything perfect again..Even Dialed In showed some sluggishness...

Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

Holy Smokes! Only played about ten games on Houdini and watched a few vids. But I read through the service manual and was blown away how legit this game is. Looks to be solidly designed and very difficult to complete if you leave Houdini letter settings as default. This game has jumped the shark ... and landed on top my want list ahead of POTC.

Highly recommend one for the home environment to get a real feel for it. Love the challenge and as many say some days your on and can get in a great groove and have killer game, some days it just plain whips your a$$ Personally love the challange and keeps me coming back for more.

Have game #39 since January ... Great game always a fun challenge to play! Very solid build, with spectacular art and a great support system from AP!

Totally agree, people writing this game off I think made their decisions way to quickly, it's a blast!

I just thought I may be seeing things but when I played Houdini at the Indiana Pinball show some of the inserts were a frosted look and not the jeweled look (if thats how you explain it?) Didn't look the same as mine so wondered if there was a change or am I losing my mind?

#5399 1 year ago

I've had these from Cliffy since day one!

Quoted from jacobrogers:

While reading the Pinball News American Pinball visit article, this stood out to me:
"American Pinball source their playfields from two different suppliers, and there are a few telltale differences between them, such as the type of pattern used to diffuse light in the inserts and the hardness of the wood."
Does anyone have details on the difference in the patterns used in the inserts? Someone earlier in the thread mentioned frosted vs jeweled. Is that the difference?

And I thought I was seeing things, Glad to know I'm not loseing my mind yet
