I have a question regarding buying a new Houdini it is new in box but not from a distributor it is from someone who took it as a trade.
I’m just wondering how everybody’s experience with American pinball has been in regards to issues warranty etc. etc.
I played the game a few times and I really enjoyed it. I know it is a tight shot game and hope in a home environment I will enjoy it more but what concerns me a little is issues with playfield etc. is that blown way out of portion or realistic and how does the company handle this I’m not sure this game will even have a warranty seeing it is not coming from a distributor even though it is brand new in the box. I was told it was just picked up from the factory so I’m assuming it will.
Thx for any input

I am buying it, and it comes with the power supply I’ll have to install. I loved when I played it a while back

#8153 5 years ago

So what are the must have for this game ? In terms of Cliffys or adjustments that need to be done or mods that help the game
Wondering what I’m going to need or want to do right out of the box before I play

#8157 5 years ago

Where do you find the knocker an end of stroke switches and also what are people using for a shaker is it from American pinball or pinball life or similar?

#8177 5 years ago

If you go to American pinball web page it has the directions to install which shows what’s included. I didn’t see where to order though

#8185 5 years ago

What do people use for plastic protectors?i can’t seem to find good pics of what is offered

#8192 5 years ago

Thx that helps, also does anyone make a clear shooter lane protector like Mezel l mods sells that covers the shooter lane and kick out

#8193 5 years ago

Those are great, I wish they showed the game with all colors it’s thought to spend that much without seeing them on a game

I cut small foam o’s and stuck them in

Finally playing some games, had a switch issue that needed adjustment and another switch in the lock line of three that wouldn’t let the ball roll past.
Once I got those working I was having some good games for the crappy player I am. Love the game so far and enjoy what seems to be a very deep game. Need to learn the rules.

Really wish it came with a manual though.

#8294 5 years ago

The switch closest to the post was not allowing the ball past, it would trigger the switch but when the post dropped the ball couldn’t get out.
I spent some time adjusting with no luck, had to remove the switch and play with it for a bit but it’s now a little messed up but working 90% of the time. I’m going to replace the switch and see if that helps.
The other switch in the smaller catapult is just really loose but I bent it up so it seems to be working now.
Time for more “testing”

Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

What's the number of your machine?
Congrats and welcome to the club!

Thanks, my number is HOU1388 if that’s what you are referring too.

So I got some more time on the game and am loving it. Finally made the grand champion score( big deal for me)
Still having issues with the lock lane where the three roller switches are, the ball is getting stuck on the switch and when the post drops it just keeps poop down and up and takes about 5-10 times before the ball is released.
Should I email the company or is there a fix for this?
Thx

Quoted from mbwalker:

Sounds like you just need to adjust the 'arm' of the switch up or perhaps loosen the screws and see if you can raise it up a bit? Just speculation, I'll defer to LTG's answer tho if he chimes in - a lot more wisdom than me.
Have you manually actuated the switch to see if anything's hanging up?

I have checked the switch and it works fine, it is stiffer then the other two and it holds the ball from advancing to the post
I’ve adjusted it literally about 20 times

#8382 5 years ago
Quoted from rosh:

Go into settings->coils and look for the setting for "left lock release", increase this by one and see if that helps in the case of the 'drop posts' the value is not about strength but time.
Also, take a look at the three switches, to they all look the same as far as the style of actuator?

I will definitely adjust the settings, but I’m pretty sure it’s a bad switch, it is much stiffer than the other two switches. I’ve loosened it and adjusted it and tried light bending and it’s still keeping the ball from releasing until after about 8-10 post drops it will come out. Its so much stiffer and I think that is what the problem is. Where can I order a replacement?

Quoted from Platypus:

Do you ever have something that you never really noticed but once you do notice it or is brought to your attention really starts to bug you?
Hdmike444 brought up Houdini’s eyes back in post #8288 page166. I didn’t understand until I realized the eye inserts are bigger than the irises. So I decided to do my own fix today. Out in the shop I found a drawer of rubber grommets. The hole size is 7/16 and a 1/2” grommet fits snug. I still got some light bleed on the rest of the insert so I found some rubber washers and put those in first. It’s not perfect bet a lot better.
[quoted image]
I had a flat sided grommet that I think would work better than the rounded ones and allow skipping the flat washer.

Looks better this way, I am going to be mass producing the foam ones I bought and selling them in my store within the next week or two.
I’m thinking $8 shipped, but will confirm once I have the exact sizes figured out. They will be a simple peel and stick.

I added my foam eye light blockers to my pinside shop. Photo shows one with and one without.
