Should be a couple Aussie games there
Quoted from PinPatch:Im no electrical engineer but Australia runs on 230 volts 50hz. I have no idea of it matters or not.
240v actually and even more in Western Australia almost 250v
Quoted from Audioenslaved:rosh do we know when the Australian Houdini’s are going into their casket?
We are taking orders for container one now, for July Production, lots of extra goodies for those who have ordered
Houdini Container Hits Australia
I know I invited someone from American Pinball to Come over, But who's this guy Hiding in the Container
Quoted from koops:Helped unbox an Australian Houdini tonight.
The small LCD displays vga wording upon power on but that is it. Nothing else during game play.
[quoted image]
Checked the vga extension cable and it's zip tied tight. Checked the connection inside the head and it's screwed in.
What else should be checked?
Haven't yet upgraded to the latest software. Machine was a July build.
It's the power cable unplugged in head box to the monitor

Sorry small lcd, the pc inside has 2 monitor cables one for headbox and the other the backbox, probably unplugged
Quoted from bobukcat:Dual-wound flipper coils haven't been used in a new game for a (relatively) long time. Modern flippers are single wound and CPU controlled. They send a full power long pulse for some duration and then back off to a pulsed low power state, the EOS is now used to detect if the flipper gets knocked down by a ball and if it does the full pulse is sent again to push it back up. They added code to Houdini to support this functionality, without it the only real difference is that if the flipper gets knocked down it will not get pushed back up until you re-flip it. Houdini was definitely not the first game to not have EOS switches, many Data East games didn't have them either.
except JJP and all the Chicago Gaming Pinballs have Dual wound coils
Quoted from bobukcat:I did mean to mention that JJP had them, didn't know the remakes had them too so thanks for that info. The function of the EOS switch is still essentially the same though, it doesn't determine how long the high-power side of the coil is energized - that is computer controlled so if the EOS fails the coil doesn't melt and the game will play just fine without a properly functioning EOS.
on a dual winding coil it does matter it swaps the power over to the hold coil from the power coil, without a EOS the flipper either will be dead or might go up very slowly
Quoted from bobukcat:I've worked on multiple WPC games where the EOS was completely broken or had a disconnected wire and the only symptom would be a weak flip every once in a blue moon so the system definitely compensates for that condition.
no it doesn't, go put a business card across the EOS contacts and flip the game, it will only operate on the hold circuit and be lucky if the flipper will have any power to flip the game on a normally closed EOS, software does not compensate.
From what I was advised by the manufacturer was the mains power dropping in the USA in warmer weather below 110v
here they are set to 240v and 1/2 the amperage at the higher voltage
we had another 1,000 games on our showroom game with no power supply issue.
I ran the game on a variac at 110v and changed the game to 110v, dropped the voltage down to 105v and saw the problem described, but can't see the fault running on the 240v mains
Quoted from kdecgp:The little display on the API Grand is just showing a white screen. How do I begin to try and fix it? Am I unscrewing that big plastic piece behind it?
try a different monitor cable
Quoted from jokerpoker:Thanks Lloyd. Josh has assured me it will be ok. Just get a bit freaked out with all the talk of flipper issues, power supply issues and I’m in Australia with completely different voltage wondering if it will be better or worse. I’ve been wanting to buy one since they came out.
All the Australian ones needed a Thermister Changed and a separate Power supply Fitted to run Coils
The games are still available new in Australia with all options
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:Lift the playfield and take a photo of the power supply at the rear of the cabinet. Post it here and we'll start with that
It already has the updated Varistor and the 48v Power Supply
Quoted from Ballypinball:It already has the updated Varistor and the 48v Power Supply
looks like just a 10,000uf 63v cap across the 48v Line
seems the problem is not with flipper power it's when the flipper bat is in the up position and a ball hits the bat it drops down and flipper button needs to be re pushed to go back up.
does this Mod with the capacitor address this issue?
Quoted from pinballinreno:After installing the EOS switches and the capacitor upgrade, the flipper collapse is almost completely eliminated.
Whereas prior to the upgrade, you had to re-press the button to get the flipper back up, that never happens now.
Updated code also had a positive effect on this issue.
Thanks Got the upgrades on the way
