Quoted from bobukcat:

the wiring diagrams in the Houdini manual are not very detailed.

In this case the coil chart on page 5-43 provides some info, as it shows that the various GI elements are driven off 12V via one of the driver boards on underside of the playfield.

Congratulations!!
Welcome to the club.
Love the warehouse shot of you picking up the game.

Just in case the upcoming sale includes coils, what coil changes are suggested with the new code? I understand that there are efficiencies achieved by replacing existing coils. Any thoughts?

Yes, coils are in the sale.
Look at your coil settings on the latest code. If there is a Yellow setting for that, a yellow coil can be used.

I forgot about the flipper coils upgrade for older models of Houdini.

What coils are we supposed to get to upgrade them from the originals?

I guess you either physically gaze upon your coils or look each one up in the manual. Then go into settings and compare. I THINK the flippers are currently blue and the display shows red. So I guess one can swap. Not entirely clear on the advantages, but assuming it provides more stability with power. I am hoping there is just a list of swaps. Probably is, but I don’t know how to find it.

I think that the only coils I would swap would be the flipper coils.

All the other ones seem to work pretty good.

If I were to replace the flipper coils, which ones would I get? They could definitely use more power.

@brenna98, which flipper coils should I order as an upgrade?

I was playing a game and my stage stopped working, not opening. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting? I went into stage in the settings menu and it wouldn’t open either. Sounds like it’s working, just not opening.

Check the plastic stage piece and see if that is blocking it. I had the same problem and that was it.

I followed the YouTube video on the stage, verified board has power and unplugged and replugged in the curtain servo. Took off back of stage checked plugs. Then it worked in test, until I went into curtain calibration which worked to close the stage, but then stopped again. Rechecked all plugs again and seems like they are secure, but can’t get it to work in test or calibration now.

No on Toppers - always topless in my basement. You know that.

Nice to know there are Black Friday deals though.

No change to flipper coils.

#13465 2 years ago

so which coils should be changed?

#13466 2 years ago
Quoted from MightyGrave:

so which coils should be changed?

You don’t NEED to change anything if you don’t want.
On current production games some general use coils where changed from Red 23-800 to yellow 26-1200
I don’t recall every one, but to find out go into Settings - Coil settings and go through the list.
If the coil has a red or yellow highlighted number that can be selected, those are default settings for that color coil.

Im having issues with something and Im not sure what? When I hit the seance scoop it often returns 2 balls and I have been in the elephant mode a few times now where while the mode is active the stage door is open and flashing, when I hit it, it just sits there with no response and I have to wait for a ball search that may or may not come. Any ideas on where or what to look at?

#13468 2 years ago

brenna98 or rosh ... any idea when the next batch of Houdini's will be on the production line? I am guessing February 2022 based on previous comments, but wondering if there was any update?

Also, can you confirm that the EOS switches were added to the standard build when the Power supply update and the flipper performance capacitor was added to the BOM?

Nothing is showing up for sale for me

Also, why would one consider changing from a blue to red solenoid for the flippers? I’m not experiencing any issues presently

No change to the flipper coils. They have always been and will continue to be the blue wrapper COI0003

Yes, confirmed.

Not sure, but ask your distributor. There are NIB games available.

Same here. Seance goes on forever. In multile ball. Anytime I go in stage it lanches 2 balls it will shutdown and reset if you keep playing.

Does the new code need to be unzipped before plugging into pinball machine

No, just copy it as is to a USB stick.

I'm guessing you have a failed servo, Dave posted a video on how to replace it.

Question for the Laseriffic Topper owners: Is that normal that the topper always stay on once plugged?

I have a controller, but it only turn off the RGB strip on the topper. The white strip always stays on.

Loving my Houdini so far!

Question?
When the screen comes up to select reverse flippers or the reverse reverse flippers 3x how do you select it?? Is says to select with flippers but mine doesn’t seem to change between or anything and when I hit both mine always just do the reverse flippers

#13485 2 years ago

At that stage just hit one flipper to select. ie, left flipper to select reverse flip. Right flipper to select reverse and upside down x 3. Have fun. Love this mode.

you need to hold in the flipper for a second, not just a quick hit of it, to select. That is to reduce accidentally making a choice before realizing there is a choice.

I just hold the flipper while I am hitting the Start button, which is also how my P3 works. Like Ctrl+C on the computer - hold one while you tap the other.

#13488 2 years ago

So how many of us reverse or cross our arms in that straight jacket mode? For a while I tried to do it otherwise but gave up and always cross my arms now. I love that mode too.

#13489 2 years ago

Best mode in any game period.

#13490 2 years ago

I usually do reverse inverted.

#13491 2 years ago

Reverse inverted always. Then I always double flip…or double hold. Then it’s basically just playing inverted as a child. My mind can’t figure out what the heck I’m doing otherwise!!!!

But doing so will put you into chimp-flip penalty mode where you kill the 3x jackpots until you stop doing it. I almost always do inverted too, I always cross my arms (I had a little practice doing that from WOZ) and always try to not chimp flip but when you have seance and or trunk MB going too it is REALLY hard to not end up in the penalty box for at least a little while. Those magnets during Seance are wicked!

Absolutely love this mode, it’s the first one I choose. Cross armed. But isn’t it damn annoying with that bloody monkey telling you to not chimp the flippers when you have more balls coming at you than a porn star…

#13494 2 years ago
Quoted from Riefepeters:

Reverse inverted always...

Ditto here. I don't cheat by doing two flippers at once either, but sometimes it gets so hectic I worry about tripping the 'you're cheating' watchdog (for lack of a better term)...so I also make sure to use a single flipper even when not needed to help reset it. Not sure if it resets it or not, more of a habit than anything.

Hold the phone….when did this chimp flipper monkey come from?!?! I had no idea that was a thing. I mean, who actually looks at the screen when all these balls are rolling around?!?! And if he’s heckling me…I guess I’ve been too focused to hear it!

#13496 2 years ago

Ohh, he’s heckling alright…..

Yeah, he's been there the whole time and I guess he gets mad when you have so many balls (on the playfield) while he's had his stolen from him. I think that Josh relaxed the threashold for triggering him at some point but it's still fairly easy to have it happen during a combined multiball. Basically it reduces your jackpots during the mode until you stop flipping both flippers at the same time.

Hoping to join the club...Game has def gotten more popular. Almost none come up for sale anymore.....Have my ToTan listed so hopefully I find one soon.

I am thinking that another run will happen in first half of 2022 since there are a bunch of distributors with 'pre-orders' being taken, but I have been striking out on finding a NIB unit in stock anywhere. Called around and I didn't find anyone with a mchine ready to ship.

Time to find a different christmas present! LOL

#13500 2 years ago

You will get two warnings about chimping the flippers before the penalty kicks in. It is the narrator who heckles you, not the chimp, given his condition his voice would be so high you would need hear it over the game play.

Once the penalty kicks in, the chimp will be smashing the cymbals very fast.

The penalty will reduce the jackpot and super jackpot values by half.

Once the penalty kicks in, it remains for the rest of the of the multiball. However, I will consider enhancing it to have the penalty removed for good behavior and/or adjusting how it handles a stacked MB.
