I have almost pulled the trigger on this a few times but I already have two black Strats. I have passed this along to several of my non-pinhead guitarist friends. What a crazy deal!
I have been playing the hell out of my Strats lately. Thanks for putting the fire back into our relationship, Vid. They call him Dr. Love.. lol
This has been my pet project as of late. The body is from my first guitar. It's a solid basswood Squier body. The PUs are Texas specials and the neck is a Warmoth. I went with Gonzalo Alves neck, ebony fingerboard, and 6100 SS frets. If you have thought about springing for a Warmoth neck have no fear. It plays like a dream.

What do you guys know about the Les Paul Personal model? I may be able to pick one up cheap. It even has some cool history associated with it.

I decided to pick it up. It is a Les Paul personal made in 67 or 68. According to the serial number it's one of the first ones made. From what I'm told it has seen the Grand Ole opry stage several times.

Quoted from vid1900:That is totally bad ass!
I went, looked at it, and walked. After going home and doing a little research I couldn't get back fast enough. This thing is a frickin Les Paul unicorn, lol.
Quoted from vid1900:I've never even seen one at a guitar show.
I wonder how many are left on earth....
Who knows? It looks like 370 were made. Only a few were released in 1969 and my serial # is 8898xx. That would put it as one of the earliest according to this site: http://www.latesixtieslespauls.com/article_lowimp.asp
Apparently, even the case is rare.
Quoted from rotordave:So, gonna keep it or flip it?
Someone like Norms Rare Guitars would tell you what it’s worth ...

I'll check them out. I'm going to hang on to it for the time being.
Quoted from zombywoof:What are those pickups, a plastic or metal cover over humbuckers or single coils? That’s some serious buckle rash, but what an awesome score!
The pickups are low-fi humbuckers designed by Les Paul. It needs a low-fi-hi-fi transformer to have proper output.
The dude that originally owned it used it in the 60s/70s Nashville scene. The paint has some gold rubbed off on it from his big country ass belt buckle.
