I have a G and L tele I'd never part with...it's probably more of a fender than allot of fenders. Pickups were wound on same machine Leo Fender made and allot of his machines were used to make g and l instruments. After he sold Fender he and George Fullerton started g and l. That tele rules!

Solid state amps have there place but i agree on the tube amp issue..they are the best. If you want to have life in your sound you cannot beat a tube amp. You can play a solid state soft or hard and it sounds the same but tubes react with your fingers or pick attack..you can really make them breathe. Allot of big acts use a small tube amp miced through a pa. My 18 watt dr z maz18 will handle any mid sized club easily..there's really no need for 500 watts of power imho.

Quoted from vid1900:

Strongly think about a Fender Twin Reverb.
It's tube, so it will last the rest of your life. (there is nothing fragile about pro tube amps. All professional musicians tour with with tube amps BECAUSE they are bulletproof)
It has great Country, Rock and Jazz tones.
It's a pro amp. You can drop it, tour with it, fnck on it, record an album with it.
Every tech knows this amp inside and out, they don't have to look at a schematic. Tons of mods for it. Every replacement part is available for it.
They have made them for 60 years because pros know it's a dependable, unkillable workhorse.
New $1200 Used $650

My 50w DSL Marshall can be heard about 4 kilometres away on a clear day. No idea why you'd need any more volume than that....
My ears have permanent tinnitus as it is ...

I agree...most people have no idea that a small watt amp can make your ears bleed..I'm with you on the ringing...boo

I wish you would have put the Gretsch up a few days ago, as I was just in KY for the Eclipse.
That's exactly how my luck goes.......

Wow.. that sux yes. I've worked hard to upgrade my collection over the years and its hard to part with things and lets face it.. you ain't getting a1964 gretsch anymore but it doesn't get played much and could go towards some debt ... if i don't find a new pin first! Lol..freakin expensive hobby...f@#k

I used to like the Gretsch Country Gentleman back in the '60s. But the Country Classic weighs less, adds binding around real f-holes (and loses the unnecessary string damping mechs and big cushion pad on the back) and looks better. And the Country Classic Jr keeps all the good stuff and just crams it onto a smaller body that looks even better than the big-bodied Country Gent and Country Classic.

My girl likes the 64 mainly because i was outside my uncles art shop just kinda jazz chording it for an art walk the town was having and yeah it's ok for that but most guitars you put on neck pickup will have that"jazzy" mellow sound so it's just not a lifer for me. Not a fan of the big body but i do like the walnut look of it. Been mine for about 15 yrs and someone else might love it but not in those top few that have to remain until i die.
