What do you guys know about the Les Paul Personal model? I may be able to pick one up cheap. It even has some cool history associated with it.
Looking for a line on a deal for a Line 6 Variax guitar.. need one of those specifically for a project...

I decided to pick it up. It is a Les Paul personal made in 67 or 68. According to the serial number it's one of the first ones made. From what I'm told it has seen the Grand Ole opry stage several times.

That is totally bad ass!

I went, looked at it, and walked. After going home and doing a little research I couldn't get back fast enough. This thing is a frickin Les Paul unicorn, lol.
Quoted from vid1900:I've never even seen one at a guitar show.
I wonder how many are left on earth....
Who knows? It looks like 370 were made. Only a few were released in 1969 and my serial # is 8898xx. That would put it as one of the earliest according to this site: http://www.latesixtieslespauls.com/article_lowimp.asp
Apparently, even the case is rare.

So, gonna keep it or flip it?
Someone like Norms Rare Guitars would tell you what it’s worth ...

What are those pickups, a plastic or metal cover over humbuckers or single coils? That’s some serious buckle rash, but what an awesome score!

I'll check them out. I'm going to hang on to it for the time being.

The pickups are low-fi humbuckers designed by Les Paul. It needs a low-fi-hi-fi transformer to have proper output.
The dude that originally owned it used it in the 60s/70s Nashville scene. The paint has some gold rubbed off on it from his big country ass belt buckle.

For something this rare, you want to get an in-hand appraisal. Norm's is pretty far away from you, but Nashville is just a short drive. I would recommend taking it to Gruhn's Guitars. George Gruhn has more guitar knowledge than just about anybody on planet earth. Appraisals cost a couple hundred bucks there but they are very comprehensive.

Looks like this model on pawn stars.
I've been a huge rush fan for over 40 years and finally got the chance to add something personal to my collection. it's a 2015 R40 les paul ruby red axcess custom, autographed and played by alex (he probably just strummed it a few times or ran a scale, but still)
looking to probably pair it up sometime in the near future with a semi hollow body ES

I’m sure this has been done in other parts of the world but if any of you have not been to a museum quality guitar exposition there is one going on now at the Currier Museum in Manchester NH.
I had the opportunity many years ago to experience Art of the Guitar at the Metropolitan in Boston. I am not a guitar player but found the exposition fascinating.
My .02$

Cool guitar JM! Always interesting to see a Les Paul with a Floyd rose on it.
How much was that if you don’t mind me asking?
Gene and Paul have been selling their “stage played” guitars for big money.
$8,500 USD for an Ibanez guitar, played for one song ... oh, add $2,500 if you want the strap as well.

God those two are whores, don't they have enough money? Ok I looked it up, estimated net worth for Stanley is 150 million and for Simmons 350 million.

Clearly they need more.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Les Paul, but my Beale Street Blue ES335 is my all time favorite.
(I'm sorry for the crappy, 10+ year old cell phone photo. The flame maple is much more pronounced in real life.)
