I take a 4" semi rigid flat knife, tap up with hammer. Repeat a in a few spots along the rail and easily grab the nails, with no damage ever to rails or nails. But, I'll try my flush nips next time, looks like a good way too.
And, I am definitely getting some vampliers, those look amazing. I would use those for quite a few things.
