I was all for these until I read that the "nylon circle" was imported from the U.S.

I don't like using imported components to help harmonious use.

But hey, at least there is some guy's review about liking his pretty nuts!

10 for $9?

No thanks.

No thanks.

eBay link shows 10 for $5.99. This guy has been here before, just selling colored nuts as some people like to use them on their machine. If it were spam he would have been banned long ago.

What ever happened to you looking into coloring the nylon circle insert too?

Huh, wonder if he changed the link. When I was looking at it it was 20 for about $8, give or take.

What’s the reasoning behind the metric size nuts being cheaper than American thread ones

Global Volume. Higher Qty needed when imported.

the reason is Metric nuts are most popular and reguler used while American standard nut are for some niche market. they are not as popular as metrics and few mamufacturers make them.

Editing post; as Coyote is 100% right. Not against Pinside rules; but something I don't like to do anyway.

There are other alternatives to Aluminum which will notstrip out in one or two uses.

#34 4 years ago

Edited.

Zitt is a standup guy, by the way - I have gotten some of his nuts in the past. (Ahem.)

Also, learned that I was wrong - I always assumed that none of the metal part of the nut contacted the post. Thought it was all based on the nylon.

My apologies, as the guy may have the best and most shiny nuts out there. However, when I see testimonials by dead presidents, it tends to raise my eyebrows a bit.

The lock nuts are only nylon on the top portion. The core of the nut is still it's base material. In this case; Aluminum. The nylon "deforms" around the thread and "locks" it from vibration. The anodized coating will be scraped from the threads during initial threading... and in these fine pitch threads -32; you should expect the threads to break from stress fairly quickly. I'm pretty sure many have voice their concerns about thread "weakness" in other posts here on Pinside.

For many cosmetic plastic securing applications; thread stripping is acceptable if the nuts are cheap enough.
