Yes most have them on free play. There are several threads like this I’ve the past few years asking the same questions though. It is one of the standard cycles that collectors go through.
Seeing the extra messages is neat for a few days then the PITA of dealing with quarters kicks in again.
If you change the batteries while the machine is on, your settings won’t reset.
