Thinking of buying one for my wpt...but is 89 dollars on ebay worth it?

#2 11 years ago

I'll be the first one to say I think the alternate translites is a bad idea and I don't like them at all.

Personal choice- Save original to install upon sale of pin

#4 11 years ago

Ask for measurements. Friend of mine had to cut his to fit. (not wpt it was HS2)

#5 11 years ago

I got one for Congo and I really like mine. Fitted perfectly too, but it is a personal choice.

#6 11 years ago

Some games need it.. like Raven haha

I have a WPT and also the same thought but that price + shipping is a tad high IMHO.

Game on grafix will print a translite for $60, just need an art file to do so. I have been putting off playing with vector art files for something decent to print for WPT. I dislike the WPT translite as much as the next guy but Shadow tops my list of most hated and mine stayed stock until it was traded away. I plan on keeping WPT so a better translite is on the "to do" list.

I would like to keep the same WPT woman ( Courtney Friel) on a re-do translite.

I've seen very few alternate translites that are actually any good, both on their own artistic merits or how well they fit with the rest of the pin's artwork. Get those two factors right, then you've got a winner.

The primary problem, though, is trying to create new artwork that still makes good use of the backlights in their stock locations. I don't know if any alternate translites actually take this into account?

Easy on the newer Sterns, one florescent tube.

I already have a few ideas for my Bttf since I own a DeLorean. I could change a few of those movie-inaccurate areas on the back glass and put my license plate on there instead. Maybe get rid if the fake Michael j fox too. A little personalized back glass maybe? Either way I'll certainly be keeping the original so I can sell it complete and original.

Gameongrafix actually has it listed for $49 but maybe that's just the print I don't know.

I had a friend make one for my WPT and it suits me way better than the original. Buy what you like as I think it changed the whole look of the game for the better.

back to the future is probably my favorite movie trilogy...and there are plenty of great ones out there

Congo alt backglass is a big improvement IMO.

#14 11 years ago

Evan- I bought an alternate translite through Chill and his friend. He did a great job and the price was in line with what is currently out there.

Mine looks great and I would highly recommend one.

A couple things to note:

1) Getting the translite off the backglass plastic is a bit tricky. There is sticky tape holding the plastic guides to the translite and to the plastic. I used a hair dryer to soften the sticky tape then pulled off the plastic pieces. I re-used the sticky tape to hold in the new translite.

2) My new translite looked a bit washed out once I put it in my game. But, after applying a strip of duct tape directly to the bulb in the backbox (which is totally safe, by the way) the light was dimmed a bit and the translite looks PERFECT!

I'll be the 2nd.

And truer words have never been spoken...

If I ever own The Shadow pin I am pretty certain that I would have to buy the alternate translight. Get what you want. But I would make sure to keep the old one in case you decide to resale.

#17 11 years ago

WPT is the only alternate that I like better than the original. It's hard to do worse than the original art though.

heck yeah!

So is the flintstones. I got the clean version so it can appeal to more people. The cartoon version is far better.

This is an excellent point. However, for some games (my WPT being one of them) there is only one large bulb for the entire backbox. So, there is no lamp placement to worry about.

#20 11 years ago

I really dig HS2's alternate translite, personally.

#21 11 years ago

If it's this one, then heck ya. They have a non censored one too.

I need something like that for TRON.

Translight looks nice but game is WPT is not WST - World Strip-poker Tour.

World Strip-poker Tour.

Should be : ).

Regardless you can never have enough strip poker in this life!

#26 11 years ago

I like this one...the guy selling it said I'd have to wait a month or so for it though.

Is there an uncensored version of this one available?

#28 11 years ago

Don't think so

#29 11 years ago
Quoted from murfe88:

Well I have the uncensored version in my WPT and everybody that comes over says it looks really good. Even the females.
Here are two pics. I hope I dont affend anybody by posting these.

Love the translite obviously, but I also really dig your white powder trim, what about the rails

Yep, from an artistic point of view, most of the alternates clash with the original art work. They are either a totally different color scheme or just "off". They don't blend in well with the cabinet or DMD plastic art and stand out like a sore thumb.

BTW, all this hate for the Shadow translite is just childish, there are SOOOO many translites that have some "actors" mugs prominently displayed and no one freaks out about it. If anything people usually get mad when the actors DON'T let their images be used (like BTTF or Apollo 13 for example). I may not agree with him politically speaking, but I like his movies and he's a funny guy, I can still be entertained by him and disagree with him...............

I did the powder coating myself using my own oven. I would like to do the side rails but I don't have a oven big enough to put the rails in to heat up the powder.

The legs and hindges fit perfect in my oven. The rails not so much.

I really like the white powder trim and I think it really pops on my WPT.

I have never understood the gripes with The Shadow's translite AT ALL.

#34 11 years ago

I like the translights for the old Gottlieb sys80b games. Most of these machines have faded trans lights.

Sheesh, here we go again with name calling because you like something that other people don't. It is a matter of aesthetics and personal taste.

What translites would you guys say are in the most desperate need of a good alternate?

I'm up for the challenge of designing one.

WCS94 - great game with a super crapy translite

#41 11 years ago

That dog on WCS made me get rid of the game in 1 month. Game play got old too.

#42 11 years ago

I realize to each his own, but I think the Demolition Man alternate translite with the graphics that match the cab looks good, the LAH that looks like the movie translite rather than just his huge head looks way better and the Shadow alt translite is a huge improvement. The common theme in all of these, to me, is that they don't vary enormously (like the WPT) from the original art and don't look out of place on the machine.

I can't recall, does the dog appear elsewhere on the cabinet artwork?

Very nice... I'd buy that in a second...

#45 11 years ago

I will be getting the alt Flintstones translite. That one works for me because I dig the Hanna Barbera animation far more than the live action movie. As long as its high quality, I'm good with it.

#46 11 years ago

Have an alternate on my HS2. Hands down better than the original.

#47 11 years ago

The one on eBay looks like crap. Save your money. Someone needs to make one that is more authentic looking, i.e. girls from the show and real WPT graphics, cards and chips. Something with the original host Shana Hyatt might be nice...

Shana.jpgShana.jpg

#48 11 years ago

I never understood why Shana wasn't on there to begin with. I always wondered if the pin was made right when she left the show or if she wanted too much money or didn't like the idea of being on a pin or....? I'm kinda surprised that there AREN'T any alternate WPT translites with her on it. She's so dang cute!

#49 11 years ago

I don't even have a TFTC (yet) and like the alternate listed on eBay - enough that I'm tempted to buy one just for wall art (until I get a machine).

#50 11 years ago

Wouldn't a properly led-lit translight of the Vegas stip be good for WPT?
