I just picked up this game (can you believe that there were 4 for sale in the pittsburgh area this week??). I'm going through my list of things to do... repair cab, fix magnet area...etc...etc... but also the translite looks fairly faded/washed out so I'm thinking about making an alternate translite.

I googled some pics and am thinking to use one of these images... I wanted to have some opinions on which one of these you think would make the best translite.

I will photoshop them so whichever I choose will have mostly purple tones to match the cabinet and add the Logo, so this is just the starting point, but wanted to get some opinions.

I like #2 (the green speaks to me..), #3, #5, #6.

#3 3 years ago

wow... three way tie so far

#4 3 years ago

I voted green but I would personally get a NOS tranliste (usually a couple on eBay) I actually think the original translite is awesome and tough to beat.

#5 3 years ago

#1 is the best by far.

Here's mock up's of the top 2 choices on the cabinet....

I'm also kinda liking the cartoon version.

I'm still going to keep the original since it's just a bit faded, so figured I would just design an alternate to give me options (and make it my own)

Close, it's getting better. I say swap the Translite to this, and change the cabinet decals and swap playfields and you have the best Xfiles machine a person could have.

+1 for #1

Picture 6 (green) stays with the theme. You could light the X to interact with the game.

i think the cartoon one,
but then you need to make some cartoon style playfield plastics, slings etc.

Exactly!!!

Oh, and it would got to be with the "young versions" of mulder and scully, not the old cripple ones... (guess I'm getting old and cripple too....)

I think the original looks better than all those alternate choices if I'm being honest. Marco has them in stock BTW

How would one go about making new plastics? The slingshot plastics on x-files are pretty hideous!

#16 3 years ago

i believe its done with self printed waterslide decals on bottom of plastic
probably some info on a EM post somewhere here.
Those EM guys need to make some slings etc themselves.

I think what I might do is a mash-up between the cartoon and the green one.... cartoon figures in the forefront and thematic images washed out on the sides.... I'll have to tinker a bit

I like this idea as I was actually torn between green and the anime !!

You've really got to decide which Scully you want with this one. The green one is looking like the hotted up Season 5 action whilst the cartoon is homely chunky Season 1

Someone must have done some of these, because I just bought one with the cartoon version (where Mulder looks like Luke Wilson).

I made 2 of these translites. One for myself (which is probably the one you bought since I sold it to someone in the MD area I believe), and another for someone else on pinside in York PA.

Does yours have the TV screen mod on the back? if so, that was mine.... sold it 2-3 years ago.

I got it from the guy in York

The purple nightmare! - LOL....

That translite looks best with white lights behind it... the blue/purple lights he had in that thing really seemed to wash it out... though pictures never tell the real story, so maybe it looked good.

It wasnt to my taste...I put the original back in.

Original art still is much better. Case anyone needs I can help with awesome quality repros!
