why would a guy let you come over and check his machine out after it is supposedly sold

There are a few logical explanations for that.

Seems pretty obvious to me... They are trying to sell it as easily as possible and for as much $$$ as possible.
I am not sure what his real motive was but he told me, "I felt I should call you back since you lived so close to me and were the first person to email me back." I live less than one mile from the guy.
If I had to guess, he was convinced that his game is worth 6500+ after so many azz hats emailed him and told him so even though they had not seen the machine. He thought he could sell it to the local guy for that price and then not have to worry about shipping and then he could also deal with cash.
He was very surprised when I told him no thanks and have a good day.
Quoted from marksf123:Since we are on the subject of MB - I just got back my playfield from HSA. My restoration hopefully start this weekend. It should turn out great...
Those look sooo good!
I dig bone flippers as an option.
I want BFs on my TFTC.
Quoted from Whysnow:Sounds like some guy in TX has just offered them 7000 and has a shipper ready to take in next week. Poor guy is gonna over pay and waste $ on shipping this piece of junk. I happily passed at the current asking price and feel fortunate that I did not get it for the original price as I would have probably originally paid 4900 in the rush of the hunt excitement only to be very pissed at myself later.
7K: wow--I remember contacting a local Op a couple years back about a local MB beater on route--that the Op claimed he had an offer of $4,500 that he turned down (presumably wanting me to offer a higher number on)--and thinking that was nuts at the time.
Very strange days indeed (factoring in the bad economy...all while most other hobbies have retracted).
