I have COVID and I'm terribly disappointed to be missing the show. I was going to be there today, a one-day wonder. Fortunately the community really came through for me and is helping me fulfill a couple buying obligations I had, so that's great.

I'm curious what the show is like? How is attendance? Any feedback on the tournament?

How's the buying / selling? One source told me the pickings are pretty slim and it "seems like all the deals happened on the internet" now.

In recent years it seemed like this was partly, true, but show was still pretty good if you were interested in EM / early digital stuff. So wondering if anybody had any feedback on that.

The other Allentown thread just seems to be people hawking wares so thought I'd start this one up. Would love to see a walkthrough vid or whatever pictures you can post.

seems the cargo shorts/white reebok ratio is holding a steady 1/1.

    You made it!?

I don't get making fun of cargo shorts at pinball shows. They just make sense!!!!

    #4 1 year ago

nah, i wish. basing that solely on past experience, and Todd Tuckey's walk through video.

    #5 1 year ago

Most games marked up a quite a bit, saw a Data East Royal Rumble for like 4300 another for 3600. Lots of dead space, pretty good amount of people though.
I personally didn't see any great deals, and I guess the guy selling empty cabs sold them all before I got there at noon today. Felt like there were significantly fewer games than last time but last time was a while ago so I may be misremembering.

I got to play the Mandolorian, and it was pretty fun. The line for Ultraman was long and the game was set to 1 ball so I didn't bother. Didn't have the time or patience to stand in line for Rick and Morty but it was awesome that sataneatscheese brought it.

    Hope you get well soon.

    #6 1 year ago

Packed and fun. But also a total Super spreader event. Hardly anyone wearing a mask. I didn’t wear one at first , but as the people piled in and lined up, I put it on. I’m going to Vegas Monday, and just don’t want to take chances.

Played Guns, Zep and Hot Wheels for the first time. Rank them
    1) GnR Absolute spectacle of a game
    2) Zep. Fun shooter!

    4)Hot Wheels. Hot Wheels blows.

Had the most fun playing older SS and late era EMs. Farmers Market great as usual. And busy for a Friday!

Levi, you were vaccinated, and still got it huh? Get well soon.

    #7 1 year ago

Crowd level not as bad as 2019 but still fairly busy. New games had lines as expected. GnR is a beautiful game and packed but I didn't think it shot that well. Marco did not have their usual big Stern line up at the entrance for free play. Low stock, maybe? Main free play area was about 80% full. Prices? Most on the high side but that's just the way it is. Small amount of people with masks. Social distancing? At least I didn't see anyone dousing games with hand sanitizer before playing.

    #8 1 year ago

And posted prices were ridiculous. Best deal I saw was a nice Tommy listed at $4,000 obo, and it was already sold.

$2,600 Sorcerers. $1650 Stars. $2,000 Meteors. $6,800 JP Pro. $10,800 Hobbit Black Arrow. $10,250 “show game price” GnR LE.

What are you people? On DOPE?

    Grading the prices:

I'm all ready for tomorrow with my green cargo pants.

My friend and I thought it was a great show. I hardly played any games because I was having a fun time tracking down parts. I found a lot of terrific deals and specifically found a long shot deal - Sega large DMD and controller board. I bought a Batman Forever last night that was missing the DMD controller board. Very difficult to find.

Also picked up side rails, mirror blades, Cliffys, backglass for my Shadow translite, MMr topper and more.

If I was looking to bring a game back home, I saw several fair deals I would've been interested in also.

Yes, so did a friend who was at the same event. You are smart to remain vigilant.

Thanks for the report, have fun !

    #13 1 year ago

Hey, cargo pants provide more pockets to buy and stow more parts while still walking the show. And I think seeing the crowd demographics that most of the Reeboks have been replaced with New Balance walking shoes LOL...like me!

After seeing yesterday's latest CDC news, noticed that maybe 15% were masked as I was in aisles and around the new game setups, basically zero distancing. Same at the Farmers Market ... that concerned me that some areas weren't spread out more in the show hall.

All said a good show again well done by Ivan.
Seemed to be some good deals on many EM and early SS models.

    #14 1 year ago

In my opinion, games were either over priced, not priced, or not worth playing! I really don’t like leaving mid-game, but can’t tell you how many I found like that and I was tempted several times. Many EMs were way out of wack. When the game is nearly LEVEL on top of not being high tapped, what’s the point? Some games couldn’t even get the ball to the top of the playfield. Several games with flippers that were slipping. I don’t like to be critical because I appreciate what people do to bring them to the show. But my goodness there were some doozies today.

Edit: This comment was based on experience with EMs. I’m sure there were many great SS games but when I play them I have no idea what the hell I’m doing. What is a ball lock??! Also, I could buy the two nicest EMs there for price of one nice SS. Clearly I am in the right part of the hobby.

Always love the EM/SS Action at Allentown.

    #16 1 year ago

In tournament news , it is a fairly expensive endeavor $60 (total) to enter classics and main

2 games included for classics ($3 for each extra game in classics with 6 games played total, including the 2 at registration)
4 games included for main ($5 per extra game up to a total of 12 games inclusive )

Not much action in the tournament area . Not sure if people were waiting for tomorrow or weren't into laying the money out.

The even starting closing down by 8 ish , apparently due to the scarcity of players.

Are there any show posters available for purchase?

    Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

Yes, near the concession stand. There's a booth with a big artwork display.

    Random question

Since your vaccinated and currently have COVID how are your symptoms? Did you have COVID previously to being vaccinated?

I would assume since your vaccinated your symptoms would be much more mild then without.

Still two days before WPPRs return. Same tourney next weekend would be slammed.

    #31 1 year ago

    Thanks Todd !

    Quoted from Gotemwill:

Edit: This comment was based on experience with EMs.

A number of solid state games were well below par if not unplayable. My wife and I only played the following games that were without issue.

WOZ, Stranger Things, Centaur, Rollergames, Memory Lane, Quicksilver, R&B and 4MBC.

Largest issue seemed to be dead, weak or broken flippers but we played several games that had electrical issues or saw games with obvious signs of distress like a Buck Roger's that the displays were on but the playfield was dead.

And we were there early when the doors opened at noon so everything wasn't beat to death yet. You always get a few games that will break down during a show, this year was a very high number though and some of them had pretty stout prices on them.

Lines for Mandalorian and Ultraman were long, people seemed to like them, vendors had brisk traffic.

Who was the older gentleman in the Jersey Jack shirt walking around with cameras on him while he was stopping and talking to people? Was that Jack?

I have gotten 2 years of pent up pinball show fever out of my system. It's been awesome! I took down my want ad for wall hangers as I have gotten enough to deck out my entire arcade wall including what I was specifically looking for. Picked up wall hangers for:

    Paragon!
    DE The Simpsons!
    Mati Hari
    Pharoah
    Rock Star
    Fire Power
    Joker Poker
Meteor (broke in my hands but paid for it).

    Got cool playfields for:
    Lethal Weapon
    Nitro Groundshaker
    Seawitch

    12 arcade marquees

Picked up cool lit sideblades for Medieval Madness for my boss.

    Color DMD!

Very tempted by pinovators multi sub input and some other very nice products brought in by vendors, so many nice shooter rods!

Sold all of my extra parts and broken boards covering 100% of this.

Tilt sells the stickers for pingulps at the show for 5$ each so snagged a few.

Have not sold my Black Knight and El Dorado yet but have interest.

If they move may go home with a Paragon or Revenge from Mars.

There has been a line on my Rick And Morty the entire show and it's been rock solid. I only had to pull the glass once for a stuck ball and that was with an aftermarket toy.

I think there have been more parts and projects this show than there were 2 years ago
There may be fewer nice games this year than previously, but I blame us and low inventory at dealers for that. Bring an A game to the show if you can!

Have gotten to play some games for the first time I have been hanging to try:

Radical, T2, Quicksilver, Revenge from Mars, Hot Wheels, Nice Paragons, High Speed 2.

Just because it was once common does not mean there are pinheads that have not played it.

    Lots of very friendly people.

10/10 will be back next year and will try to bring another A list game.

To the folks who put the show on... thank you!

    #36 1 year ago

Most of the prices are super high. I arrive late in the day yesterday so the crowd wasn't that bad. Tournament area looked dead to me.

    #37 1 year ago

Got there early. Did not wear cargo pants but did have on a mask . First time playing GNRLE and LZ pro. Had for me, relatively long ball times on both, not sure I would put either in the collection. The surprise game for me was Hot Wheels. No line and a pretty fun/ fast game. I would consider it sometime. Only game I saw that I wold have considered was what looked like a pretty nice cosmetically looking Paragon for 2400. It was not turned on so I could not play.

379 plays on Rick and Morty in one day! Held up solid and glad I put mylar in the shooter lane before the Allentown show. 2 stuck balls in aftermarket toys I had to remove. Had to fix switch for flippers on right side and put in a new drop target spring but solid otherwise.

The “new games to play” aspect was woefully inadequate this year. That said, I wasn’t compelled to wait in a relatively short line to play Mando Pro, so that’s on me.

    #50 1 year ago

Didn’t go either. First missed show in God knows how many years. Spend summers down the shore in Diamond Beach. Next year hopefully the show will return to its normally scheduled time. Feel better Levi.
