I feel like I hit a jackpot today by getting the last one of these. I really enjoyed boss hog VII and expect this to be equally if not more tasty.

I'd need to hit the jackpot to justify that purchase!

    Enjoy every sip!

Really liking the rye lately as well.

Bulleit is a softer sting, but great value in my opinion.

    Great price at Costco.
I live the Kirkland lifestyle lol.
Kirkland blended Scotch, Bulleit Rye..., life is good.

We finally got a Costco in Duluth last month, are there any good “Kirkland” branded whiskeys I should go try?

I liked the 1792 bourbons they had but they are gone now. The Kirkland Tennessee bourbon is at most a mixer IMO. They used to have a Kentucky bourbon that was really good but no more. They have really good prices on other bourbons and you never know what you will find there so if close by it is worth it to pop in every now and then.

The only other Kirkland products I have tried is their rum which is like $10 for a 1.75 and my wife likes the freeze-pop drinks they have. The Egg Nog is always good too if they have any left. I heard the 12 year scotch is really good but haven't tried it yet.

    Getting back to whiskey:

    Here's the review:
Full warm nose of roasted walnuts and cherry cola leads to a silky and slightly dry body of dried citrus fruits and vanilla. Finishes smooth and sweet with mild spice notes and honey.

It's sweet and delicious. I would recommend it to any bourbon lover.

The Utopias aren't whiskeys but 28% ABV beer that supposedly taste like a port. Interestingly, the Utopias are aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels. The Utopia on the right is from 4/5 years ago (still unopened) and the one on the left is 2021.

I don't get it. Unless the guy is a troll on Pinside. He writes, "Freezer Pops?" I don't know you, your wife or the guy that asked about Freezer pops. To be honest I was wondering what freezer pops are.

Disclaimer: What are these freezer pops you speak of? And I am not making fun of your wife.

    Tarnished Truth (resized).pngTarnished Truth (resized).png

I’d like to give a shout out to an up and coming local boutique distillery. Tarnished Truth is located in the basement of the old Cavalier, a prohibition era hotel.

Their signature product is a high rye, straight bourbon whiskey. It has a nice nose, with butterscotch notes. The high rye gives it some authority, but is still well balanced. You can purchase this one in Virginia ABC stores currently, and it will be entering other east coast markets soon.

Discretion is a more traditional mash. It is also well balanced, but more subtle than the high rye Tarnished Truth. For now you can only get this one at the distillery, but it will be available in Virginia ABC stores soon.

The Bourbon Cream is made with their signature bourbon. I’m not a huge liqueur drinker, but this is a cut above most. They also have a 100% corn vodka, a moonshine (which is their signature bourbon mash but is not aged in charred barrels), a gin, and Coastal Cocktails.

If you are in town, make a point of taking the distillery tour. These folks have a passion for making fine whiskey using traditional methods.

There is an annual bourbon tasting featuring regional distillers on the lawn at the Cavalier in November. I just scored my tickets and reserved my room today.

    Cavalier (resized).jpegCavalier (resized).jpeg

As a side note about the Cavalier, Adolph Coors killed himself by jumping out of a window there in 1929 (some say he was pushed).

Grabbed this tonight from Wayne Gretzky Estates. Never tried but the price suggests it must be good. What was the price? If you are a hockey fan you can figure it out

This is the first time i brought a Canadian Whiskey back that wasn’t Lot 40 Dark Oak.

Haven’t tried it yet. We had a company thing there and no way i was cracking it with 100 sales guys around haha. If Gretzky made an appearance i would of though!

They had their regular “red cask” whiskey available at the bar and i didnt mind it. Of course anything tastes good after several drinks. The one i bought was the 99 proof that they finish aging in cab/sauv barrels. Prob give it a taste this weekend.

Picked a random bottle that looked good for a buddy that helped me. Super smooth, it has the whiskey taste but then no bite. Super good! Getting a bottle for myself.

So how was it? My neighbor owned the liquorstore in town so I've had a bunch of nice Canadian Whiskeys. Always a nice invite. I usually go for the cheap stuff. Still soooo jealous how cheap booze is south of the border. $15 for a 1.75 kirkland? $40 up here minimum. Crown and little coke for me tonight. Cheers

I have taken a liking to Jim Beam honey. The grocery store ran low and the switched to plastic bottles. They ran out of that and have not replenished. I have tried the orange and the apple, and they both are terrible. A local liquor store has the plastic bottles on clearance. Having a high ball of that on the rocks is so nice. What is with finding something that you like, and they discontinue it?

Not enough other people in your area have your taste? I've read that people believe Kirkland (Costco) is made by Jim Beam, so you might try there?
