Warning: This is a happy-pinball post.
At the end of Pat Lawlor's talk at Expo, he discussed (drama of) 1.0 code-releases and I realized how wonderful it is that software teams at Pinball companies provide substantial updates, long after the game ships. This process allows them to learn about the good and bad feedback, gain insight, and make improvements over time. There is no realistic scenario where the best possible game ships on day 1. I really appreciate the coders and designers who remain committed to making their games as good as possible. And I appreciate the company management who invest resources making their "already-sold" games better. Few products "these days" get this kind of love.
This is pinside, so yes, yes, yes, not all games have shipped with adequate ship-code. Mistakes were made. And recent examples of code updates in several games resolved much of the player feedback and criticism. All hail Pinball software teams!
