JJP has automated updates + a third party integration in scorbit. Multimorphic has online multiplayer and automated updates.

You guys must be having aneurisms with the "potential" security problems in all these brands.

Don't forget about all the sound/video modded software images people share around, because it's entirely possible today to go in and put rogue software on a machine, slipped in one of those images.

    Quoted from YeOldPinPlayer:

Don't have to get into Stern if the machine is connected to the internet.
Run Wireshark if you're on the local network,
    Identify pinball machine traffic
Use Shodan every now and then to make a list of machines to scan.
    Analyze for vulnerabilities
Maybe the embedded code is inaccessible, maybe it isn't. If remote updates are a feature at least part of the code is accessible. Once it's connected to the internet the time and location limitations of probing for vulnerabilities is far lower.

Put pins on separate network than guests just like you do with POS. Large operators probably already do this with online enabled games like global pac-man and other games including JJP. Problem solved. The hate for Stern joining the online enabled club is strong and grasping at straws.

Nah - because there wasn't a CIO running around telling everyone how it's impossible for there to be any threat there

Big difference between "hasn't been exploited" to "its not possible to exploit"

I haven't seen any hate. Have seen some burying their heads in the sand about the additional risks. Better information is a good thing.

We'll see how it works out.

You've been on Pinside for 6 years and JUST figured this out? Ouch. If ad-hominems were gold, we'd all be f'ing rich.
