I've had an Alien Star for awhile now and have never been able to get it to boot. The other day I borrowed a working MPU from my buddy, swapped it in my game and now it works and plays. However, the pop bumpers are not working correctly. The right and center both fire at the same time, no mater which of the three are triggered. The left one does not fire at all, but can fire the other two when triggered. Looking around underneath it looks like some wires were added at some point (yellow and grey) and some wires were cut. Does the wiring look correct? Any reason for this? Any ideas on how to fix?

I tried re-seating connectors and adjusting the switches and then all of them started firing at the same time independent of which ever one was triggered. Then after about 3 minutes all of them stopped firing and now none are working.

yes, three of them

have you got a schematic for the game , then you can check what colour wire goes where on your flipper coils and you might want to check your fuse for the bumpers too

in pic 4 you can see a wire cut and just hanging there that could be half your problem

It looks like they've linked one bumper to the other (gray wire)
Most likely there is one (or two) popbumper board that doesn't work.

The yellow wire links all the "spoon" switches of the bumpers.
Gottlieb always used multicolor wires.
Take out the odd (single color) wires and see what works.
Reattach the cut wire, but be ready to turn off the power when testing.

Do you have an manual with schematics?

I removed the yellow and grey wires, reattached the ones that were snipped and none of the pops work. The center one worked for about a minute, then next game it stopped. I confirmed the fuses are not blown.

also, I do have the manual but I don't know how to read schematics. I think a photo of the bumper wiring of someone elses machine would really help so I can make sure mine matches.

check to see if you got power going to the pop bumper coil with a Dmm
