Great news! Can't wait to see what the new game will be.

A huge improvement, IMO. The flipper in the middle of the playfield always bothered me. Overall, looks like it could be a lot of fun for sure.

Upper left corner I'm guessing is just covered with a plastic? Maybe a toy will/could be mounted on top?

It looks just fine. In some games, especially those light on toys and such, perhaps the playfield should be bold and really grab your eye. In others, that job is left to other parts of the game. In this case that will be the toys and the LCD. The art in the playfield is quite literally in the background. It's not supposed to be the main focus of attention. I suspect when we see the final product, the playfield art will do exactly the job it's supposed to do, and the whole thing will look beautiful.

Seems like this stuff should have been squared away before announcing the game. Waiting/continuing until after gives the licensor extra leverage on you in the negotiations and puts you at risk of failing to secure some important assets. Not to mention your creative team doesn't even know what they can/can't use, so late into the design.

#4344 3 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

This has zilch to do with Fox. Nada. There is no leverage. They don't control this part.
Here's the deal in a nutshell: the actors own their own likenesses. It's not in their movie contract. We can license the film, but we don't get them with it automatically. We have to ask them separately. That process is ongoing.

I'm not just talking about Fox, but all relevant parties.

I'd rather not hear that major playfield pieces are getting changed to be honest. There comes a point at which you have to say "It's done." and get over the things you wish you could have done better. I mean, how can such a thing be changing, and yet Heighway be "in production"?

#9074 2 years ago

How much do you want to bet? I have money down and played it at Expo.

#9078 2 years ago
Quoted from flynnibus:

Because 'production' simply means they've started making 'stuff'. Ordering the components, building sub-assemblies, etc.. this is all 'production'. not necessarily 'assembling playfields'

But clearly not all the sub assemblies, if they're altering the design a major one. It's tough to truly be in production while still working on the design.

And please understand I am a big fan of Andrew and the team, and no one that doesn't work for or have ownership in the company is rooting more for them than I am.

Anyways I'll let it go because whatever is happening is already in motion. All I can do now is hope the game isn't delayed much more, or the game play is hugely improved because of it, or both. But the question of whether it's really fair to ask for further payment at this time is, I think, a fair one.

Quoted from HoakyPoaky:

Ahhhh! The Blue trim package option on the LE finally revealed One can only assume now that the 2nd LE art package (back glass/side panels) is based on Aliens, and hopefully features the Queen.
Well that option is a no brainer! Blue trim it is Great option Andrew. Looking forward to the full reveal!
Edit: Also nice that black trim is also an option for LE owners too!

Please please please let this be true (Aliens blue art option for LE)...

Quoted from robotron:

please explain the blue. i thought alien was like a green theme.

Man that backglass art looks so cool. I had been planning on getting the large LCD in the head, but now I'm not as sure... Really need to see all three versions (no LCD, small LCD, large LCD).
