They are just going to show some clearcoated playfields, right? There was no talk about populated playfields earlier in the thread.

No talk of it, but possible they'll mount something on it. It's coming up to 10pm / 22h in the UK already, so I assume they're not getting a delivery at this time or going through them with a fine tooth comb for quality. May be mounting them in a cabinet, and / or adding a few simple assemblies to it before taking pics.

Oh right...that might be a little bit of a letdown.

Well let me down already....wait for it ....wait for it....

Don't worry, we'll all be let down shortly.
So, I have two devices logged on, and two replies ready to go, like newspaper election result front pages. "That looks fantastic!" on one and, "What a let down!" on the other. Fingers hovering over the buttons....
Here are the photos, as promised.
We are very happy with the results and hope you like the photos too.
Clear looks thick and shiny. Still think the area to top right and top left of the 2X insert is way too congested.
Looking forward to seeing it built up.
Looks awesome! Really like the dark colored background and attention to detail. Thanks for sharing pics!
Looks nice! We cant wait to see it populated!
How many coats of clear coat are applied? I unboxed my Full Throttle last night & I couldn't believe how good that playfield looks! It looks like glass over top of the playfield!
Love the alien popping through the insert! Can't wait to see this thing populated and lit..
btw, stickers for everyone who can't afford the LE: http://www.popstickerco.com/packs/you-bitch
Quoted from Maken:Too bad one of them is damaged near the right sling.
You can get a back up for low price!
Quoted from ectobar:Thought they would have moved the top Alien's vagina insert.
Probably took about a month or more to make these up, start to finish, so there are probably zero changes to what was shown at EAG in these.
Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:Guessing the flippers will be lit because of the cutouts
No. Read the full throttle thread in which I posted that video that was linked where a few posts back. The whole flipper mech drops below the playfield and undo the wiring connector for the coil and you can rebuild the flippers on a bench and even align them. A plastic piece fits in the flipper cutout hole so the ball doesn't get caught when the flipper is up. Genius design.
Looks awesome! It is really great to see how the inserts look in person. I especially like the way the mode inserts on the motion detector are blacked out by default. Will lend itself well to the pulsing effect Aurich mentioned, and really highlight the effect of each column filling up towards you, increasing the tension.
Looks awesome guys! Super shiny
Few things I noticed....
1) Aurich adjusted the angle of the crosshair targets to match up with it's respective stand up target. Small touch & well done.
2) Not sure how to describe it, but I like the use of "negative space" on all the mode inserts, so that the lettering will change color based on the LED underneath the insert. That's a cool effect
3) Also added "Revive" to the hypersleep chamber inserts
4) Also changed the red background at the upper part of the playfield to blue/violet, which fits much better with the color scheme on the rest of the playfield. That's a nice welcomed change for sure.
Thanks again for the pics Andrew!

I'll take credit for that! Haha.
Quoted from accidental:The weapon target inserts are all orientated in identical upright fashion. I think they should be tilted toward their associated target faces. All the other inserts point toward their shots/targets except these.
Quoted from Aurich:That's a good point, I'll look at that, thanks.

looks fantastic!
Beautiful playfield and the clear looks nice and shiny. Prolly in the minority, but wish it hit me over the head as Alien. Doesn't do that for me as it stands. Can't wait to see it in person and populated with all the toys, mechs, etc. Look fwd to seeing the finished product. Keep up the good work guys!
Quoted from pinballwil:I hope the ramps wil cross over or something like that.
Because the game looks les flat/emty like FT.
It looks then more expensive like the 90 wms machines.
And i hope for ramp decals.
That also looks less cheap.
Cant wait to play Alien looks great.

Just like The Shadow's...will be cool with RGBs.

I agree with you. My expectations were also more Alien. The darker the better. Hoping the final product is going to make this a worthwhile pre-order purchase. Looking forward to also seeing the final product!
I think it looks great thanks for sharing the photos with us!
My apologies for this question as I'm sure it's been addressed. What is the target date on these shipping out to customers? I'm looking to add a pin and would definitely consider buying Alien just not sure I can hold out that long.

Andrew said early summer / June when I spoke to him at EAG 5 weeks or so ago. I'd guess a bit later, but we should have a better idea depending on its state at TPF.
They are coming to TPF so the hope is they will have a working prototype so it is likely a few months away before any will ship. I'm really looking forward to this years show with all the new stuff coming. Come join us if you can.
I am seriously looking to get one of these as well but shipping date is key
GB coming soon and I must have that one
Looks great!!!!.....shiney and dark.....anxious to see populated....this is going to be a gorgeous pin!!!
I still think the artwork here is pretty average. I mean sure, it might be better than some of Stern's recent offerings, but that isn't saying much. I was hoping for a lot more given the theme and the dedication that we were expecting from those involved. I don't want to hear about "licensing restrictions" because it's just a cop out. In other words, I am not interested in placing blame on anyone in particular, including Fox.
Bottom line for me, it just doesn't come close to knocking it out of the park like I was hoping. It's more like a lead off base hit. I'm hoping that when I see it in person and populated with all the plastics, toys, mechs, and RGB lighting in the inserts, those items will constitute at least a double, resulting in the runner from first scoring a run.

I disagree, the artwork is just one component and serves to complement the other elements of the playfield. In fact if the playfield was designed to better stand on its own, it would be more likely to be too much and clash when the plastics, toys and mechs are added. This is why it takes true talent to be able to visualize and design towards a seamless result.
