Quoted from DrDoom:

I also had a few resets (with full reboot + BIOS message) during multiball .
Can somebody tell me more details about the cap mod?
What parts are needed?
Thanks

Caps are more for keeping proper current to the flippers, coils etc. to avoid sagging during multiball (this is for the 70v switching ps). My resets were coming from lack of juice on the 12v switching PS. ALOT runs on 12vdc in this game, including all lighting and the CPU, to name a few.

Thanks for your advise.
My flippers are very strong, no problem with them.

So regarding the sporadic reboots it makes more sense to change the 12V power supply for a stronger one.

#24453 4 years ago

I never had a reset on mine, or lack of power on my flipper, is very strong!

Oui, le mode attract est revenu rapidement. Merci pour l'info.

es-que toutes tes cartes I/O sont à jours?

So is the capacitor mod even necessary if you have the transformer in there instead of the switching PS?

probably not...

Remind me - to have a greater probability of the magnet capturing the ball one you trigger ambush MB, what setting do I change?

#24460 4 years ago

Coil strength on the magnet coil.

#24461 4 years ago
Quoted from mavantix:

Coil strength on the magnet coil.

perfect - that worked. thanks.

btw I put a trough light just to light up the flippers a little and I think even that little light throws off the perfect darkness in this game. Disconnected it. Lightning on this game is perfect as is with the side blades

#24462 4 years ago

Does anyone know if a stern or williams part will work for the magnet core? Mine is a bit beat up.

#24463 4 years ago

I’ve experienced a lot of stop lastly during gameplay. Seems to be software issue but no idea what’s wrong: all the led are working and it seems coming from « queen nest » or « multiball »

Has anyone tried to download the report with the USB? Is it helpful? I m looking for diagnosis.
Not sure any 1.3 coming soon so....

You won’t be disappointed. The game is amazing!

#24468 4 years ago

I first played this ALIEN at the EXPO 2017 in Netherland, where Heighway showed two versions.
I was really impressed by that interesting game play and all these innovations "under the hood".
And without doubt Mr. Sanders did an amazing job developing this pinball machine and hit the ALIEN theme very well.
The machine is almost NIB and is delivered in its original packaging.
Only very few games were made with it and also the playfield is undamaged and protected with Cliffys.
It was part of a collector's edition in Austria and the previous owner kept an eye on it and completed it how it should be delivered to the customers.
It is an original black LE version (type plate in front of BB) with the latest software release 1.2, shaker and some other improvements.
The pictures will follow in the next days.
I think it's a good choice, maybe the bad plastics will cause some trouble, but I try to replace them with PETG-Version if available again.
The Xeno will also get an upgrade for the plastic gear and for sure, there are some more little "construction sites".
My luxury problem is, where to place it in the basement, because I'm not sure if this widebody has the same dimensions like the WMS Indy?

By the way, is there any chance to get in contact with Dave Sanders?

#24469 4 years ago

Alright, still working on getting my game updated. I have all the parts save the display cables, the leds (waiting on timebandit to get back from vacation) and the wiring harnesses for the alien head.

Does anyone have pictures of the wiring harnesses for the dual board xeno head setup?

What connector does the airlock screen use? I know the backbox and playfield are dvi to dvi, but not sure if that is the same for the airlock?

He pokes his head up here on Pinside from time to time. He's @ealadubhsidhe.

Airlock LCD has an HDMI input if memory serves.

Thought so. Think I saw a picture where someone had to shave the cable down to fit, but cannot find it.

Thanks for information,
I try to talk to him.

Also, does anyone know where to get the chip for the stepper motor pcb? Digging through pics in other threads I realized I am missing the chip, but have not seen a source?

#24474 4 years ago

Is there an overview available with the improvements due to the software revisions?

#24476 4 years ago

Thank you sir.

#24477 4 years ago

Can somebody tell me what dimension the cabinet has?
Is it the same like wideobody WMS Indy, STTNG or different?
What is the distance of the feet from left to right?

#24478 4 years ago

The cabinet measures the same as a WMS widebody. The backbox is not the same, maybe a bit more narrow than a standard backbox. It detaches completely, so if your concern is getting it through a doorway the backbox isn't an issue.

StepStick A4988 module...and it installs with the little screw on the left, larger connector side.

Just curious: how many games has your Aliens pin so far?
I just saw some used one one threads.
Mine has 800 plays. 600 in the last 3 weeks... (Very good moments I have to say)

I wonder about the lastability.

#24484 4 years ago

Help, after factory reset I get a Heighway login?

Weir pinball site has instructions on how to reload this. Also sometimes a simple turn off wait 15 seconds and turn Back on will solve this.
Good luck

#24486 4 years ago

Ok I can try that. Hope it works, just don’t want to do more damage

Had me curious...I crossed the 1k mark several months ago, before I reset everything, and did some shoring up w electrical and plastics replacements....Suspect I'm around 1500 now ...Game is very solid now, however, when friends come over they shy away as it shoots so different.... Intimidating on several levels...Love it!!!

hello. Not sure what is the best thread to post this:
looking for help for my Alien which constantly reboot now. running the 1.2. I've update my IO boards recently to .9 version. This didn't solve this issue but now the right flipper, once pressed during gameplay, make some leds to bright with it...

here are the traces from the log file:

during gameplay:
8980 ERROR: ioboard_thread(2): ERR: 18
3100 ERROR: ioboard_thread(2): ERR: 18
3104 ERROR: ioboard_thread(2): ERR: 18

9844 ERROR: ioboard_thread(0): ERR: 18
6944 ERROR: ioboard_thread(1): ERR: 18

just before the reboot, I have this infinite loop

2888 deff_start 141 AMBUSH MB JACKPOT
2896 Stopping leff 41
2896 Closing leff 41 (idx 10)
2896 Started leff 70

End... with reboot

5588 Hurry 75 exiting
5588 deff_start 31 WEAPON AWARDED
5588 ignoring[0] 58 < 147
5588 AIRLOCK: kicking now

Any Idea would be appreciated?

It was a great clear tutorial but didn’t work for me. Maybe the thing to do is try to install the software which I’ve never done before.

I'd sure do the simplest first.....reload clean code, reseat usb to I/O boards then see what happens....the game will not boot properly as is on occasion (hasn't happened to me since I upgrade the P/S)....then at least you can start again w troubleshooting

Thanks for this. The .9 version upgrade for the I/O board didn’t do any good for me. Is this the version you’re running on your Alien?

#24493 4 years ago

So I just reached the first mini wizard mode on the alien side - the one you dump the alien out of the ship..... When I reached it on my older game it really wasn't all there but this version.... Wow. So well done. Great integration with not only clips but the shots it asks you to do match what's going on. This is even better than jjp. Bravo.

On a side note, anyone else have their led strips dip a little in an area on the side lights? I tried glue but not a great solution. Any other good ideas?

Haven’t been keeping up.. but friendly reminder not to update code on the Zotac PC. And the bios settings above will only apply to the Zotac PC (enclosed) not the High Praise (open under lexan) PC.

#24499 4 years ago

Ugh, tried to boot from usb as instructed by weir websight but usb flashes and then nothing. Only thing I can get to is the bios setup utility. restore defaults? Anyone out there in alien land experienced this and can help?

#24500 4 years ago

Can we get the instructions as download PDF?
