I have my game on carpet so it has finally settle down in. Seems like the game was getting harder and I checked the leveling. It settled a little too steep. Now I have put the playfield at -6.5, with the glass at -13.8 (LE version). Has anybody played around with it and found the ideal leveling for their game?

#23603 5 years ago

I've kept my game right at 6.5... seems to play well that way, all shots makable.

Anyone know the pinout of the individual leds for Alien? I would like to try and build a test rig. Soldering them is definitely a PITA

Yes, they are blank sensor boards in the background. Just waiting on some components.

Testing is a bit of a pain, as you need a data line as well as power. I've given up wanting one. I do a quick test bewteen the data in and Gnd pins. This is where they seem to fail. If these two are short, then it's dead.

Well, I guess it’s a pretty quiet time of day around here.. but you are now watching this live. The first prototype build of the Alien passive sensor going in the oven.

This is very nerve wracking. It’s the most 0402s I’ve had to put on at once, yuk, but hopefully my PnP will be able to handle them. I wouldn’t want to be producing manually.

Well, here goes...

#23610 5 years ago

It’s out. I had to rework it just a little bit. 0402s are small, man! A couple of components had turned into jumpers, and a couple were touching their neighbour, but all looks good now.

I’ve done a connectivity test with the meter and now I’m going to fit the headers and test it in the machine.

Nervous!

If I remember correctly it wasn't too much trouble. I kept the boards connected, ie six or seven in a row. Put them in my pc board holder and placed it high so I could get under it. Loaded the headers then just put a little solder on one of the pins from each header to hold it in place. Then flipped the boards to solder the rest of the pins and resolder the first pin from each header that was just tack soldered.

Last step was to add the headers to the edges of the outer boards that were covered by the grooves of my pc board holder.

Time! Amazing stuff brother

Well....I’ve got a bit of tuning to do on the sensor. Rest assured I’ll be happy to call it amazing if it works, haha.

On a different note, I'm thinking about trying to get Sigourney Weaver to sign my translite ( though not really present in the game, sadly)

Have a potential lead, but have never chased autographs before....Any tips? Do you think she would?

You take that back. Bill Paxton is a god and it's blasphemy to make a joke about Bill Paxon. Bill Paxton would not approve nor do I.

Will either this sensor or the LEDs work in Full Throttle?

#23634 5 years ago
Quoted from BertoDRINK1:

They should, but are not tested. Best way to check would be to try some Alien parts in FT. If they work then the replacements will work. I will be testing a FT when I can get to one. Or I might send some parts out for testing.

Quick update on the availability of the replacement sensors. I need to turn the board once more for a minor component tweak, and of course the holidays are now in the way of quick turnaround, so I would look to around mid Jan for these to be available.

Tall GI bulb replacements will be available at the same time.

I will also be doing a complete replacement of switches on my machine to the new ones for a solid test environment. I will put up some gameplay of that in a week or so.

Hey guys, I just added an Alien kit to Titan pinball's database for an easy order....just go in and use the template and then change colors and such to fit what you want. I based the kit off of the above post
