Quoted from Oneangrymo:

So far it sounds like none of the Alien owners are disappointed with their purchase? All happy?

I'm one that isn't too happy. Damn thing has never worked correctly out of the gate. I bought it through CT and Melissa is kind of trying to help, but it's been slow going.

Can you tell me what is wrong, is it a board problem? Does it work at all?

Swenny if you decide to sell I have a buyer

#22455 5 years ago

I suspect it is a board problem, possibly a bad connector or port somewhere as it will start out OK, but then act like the ball has drained mid-ball. Other times I get infinite multi-ball. Once in a great while I'll get a ball (not a whole game) where it will play normally, but that's not often.

Wish I could get it fixed, because on those rare occasions where it works correctly it really is an enjoyable pin.

#22456 5 years ago

Just played a few games of Alien today at a friends house. This is quite a nice package especially the video cut scenes, it's horrible that this pin was not able to be brought successfully to market.

thx Rai. the more I play this game the more i love it. If someone like Jersey Jack could just duplicate this pin they would sell 1000s. Just a great pin. Ambush multiball is just amazing.

Man that would be difficult to work with. I have an awesome pinball tech nearby he fixed my Adams family in seconds, was a broken wire soldered it and done. Hopefully you will figure it out !

This sounds more like a trough switch problem, unless there are other things going on too?

If the I/O board USB is flaky, you'll see a lot more than this - lights would go out, flippers would stop working, etc.

#22460 5 years ago

Funny you say that b/c literally a couple of seconds before it cuts out I hear some sort of a click that appears to come from the area of the trough switch. I've checked it a couple of times but couldn't see anything wrong. I may try looking at it again.

Did you try fresh balls? Mine would do that too - I was using chrome balls, and the steel that they use for the guides and trough are sensitive to any magnetism, swapped to carbon balls and it stopped doing it.

+1...throw away factory balls immediately...carbon only for this one....

how do you know if you have carbon balls?

If you’re talking about high carbon steel (I.e. silverjet) with the magnet in this game the balls will retain magnetism and stick to each other and other metal on the game. It would be best to use regular balls.

Negative....Silverjets are the worst for games w magnets....Chromium Steel...reference thread below:

a good read, .....ballbaron has great input on the topic.....hoping his Carbon shipment arrives soon (not as shiney as Ninjas or Silverjets, but definitely the best for magnet games)

Quoted myself....apologies

Interesting developments at Deeproot Pinball related to Heighway, I wonder what this means?

https://thisweekinpinball.com/deeproot-update-plus-interview-new-hire-new-building-new-creative-studio-new-licenses-and-help-offered-to-those-who-lost-money-on-pre-orders-from-other-companies/

"From October 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018, we will offer some form of relief to those affected customers of Heighway/Pinball Bros and Dutch Pinball who have not received their promised game or other relief. While it won’t make up for the wrongs, it is the right thing to do, and we are sure will be appreciated by the hundreds of affected customers.”

I saw this and felt immediate suspicion - not normal business behavior. Hope I'm wrong

Seems bizarre to me... if they had some games under their belt and offered a discount to guys screwed by another company, that would make more sense.. I'm not even sure I get the deeproot business plan at all, it seems like a joke.

The TWIP article talks about other business areas that DR is involved with. Maybe those are healthy profit centers? Most pinball companies are normally living hand-to-mouth (exception: Stern IMHO) and not given to philanthropy.

100% agree and been saying this as well. Such a troubled pin but an absolute gem. Only IJTPA rivals it's presentation/sound and that's saying something.

#22474 5 years ago

I see lots of money being spent. That's the easy part.

I bought the carbon balls from ballbaron and installed them. But just to see what happens, I'm going to swap them out tonight and try a few games with the factory balls. Can't hurt to try.

#22476 5 years ago

never even heard of deeproot pinball. who are they and where do they get all this money to help wronged pinheads?

#22477 5 years ago

My guess is some sort of incentive/discount on new deeproot titles for those who can show a legit claim of loss.

Im just basing my guess off of this part of the interview below.

-----
RM: We still haven’t decided yet exactly what we want to do. It will be more than a ‘$5 off coupon’, but less than a free game. It might not even be towards a game, but rather travel or access. A poll would be helpful at some point to see what they really want.
------

I hope it will be a substantial incentive for those who lossed out on Alien or TBL and not just a marketing gimmick in the end.

WTF is an offer of "travel" or "access?" Very vague, and not much in the way of relief for spurned buyers. No poll is needed. People want their game or a refund.

So far, Deeproot is a lot of talky talk self promotion.

I’m skeptical as well. Companies rarely take action on items that don’t have a tangible benefit for themselves. Perhaps they would want those “hosed” parties to sign over their rights to any recovery from Heighway etc to them. You can’t squeeze blood from a stone or insolvency, so I can’t see how that is of interest either.

They're trying to garnish goodwill to wash the taint (heh heh, heh heh heh I said taint) of JPOOP out of our mouths....

#22481 5 years ago

The idea of getting $500-$1000 off a deeproot pin after showing proof of loss seems like good marketing/business strat. They’ll still make some profit and provide some good will.

The only bit of skepticism would be the time period this is being offered is before any pins are shipping and possibly before they’re shown. This would only be of concern if deeproot is requiring payment to receive the discount. If its just a period of time they’ll review cases and provide the discount, that woud be cool.

Have they announced a title yet?

They will probably allow these ppl "exclusive access" to pre-order a new, not yet in production game with a $5000 deposit.

#22487 5 years ago

I wonder if we’ll ever see Alien offered digitally, such as in Visual Pinball?

So far, Deeproot has only announced their high end title. It's going to be Jpop's "Alice in Wonderland". At $50K a copy, I have zero interest no matter how limited the run is.

50k!! For Alice in Wonderland!? Off with their heads!

#22490 5 years ago

Anyone added undercab green lighting to their alien. The led strips below would be easy just not sure how to tap into game. Same a stern when you could alligator clip to a flasher like one at the Xeno? If anyone has done this let me know ...thx!

Unlikely at best, at least in the short term. Full Throttle would stand a better chance, but since I hold sway over much of the game's design rights as well as access to assets, there's no way I'm letting any old hack jizz it out. I'd more than likely have to oversee such a project myself.

You did get some pretty serious pinball street cred, but that is a pretty stiff price to pay.

I’d like to see it offered legally, digitally, and would pay accordingly. I’m sure many others would too!

Finally - I’m in! Had a deposit down on #237, ended up with #227 - close enough! I haven’t even played a game yet - still tweaking things - but it’s incredible just seeing it in person as I never thought I would own one.

Can someone point me to the software and IO updates? The link previously provided wasn’t working when I tried it.
