Quoted from TimeBandit:Wow, I'm glad they changed all that garbage copy to "in space no one can hear you scream".
Haha yeah, and that's one of the better ones. I have a whole stack of old poster ideas in the assets Fox gave me.
Check out this bad boy:
I like how these used a picture of the eagle nebula in the background. That one always had a somewhat creepy look to it anyway.
Quoted from PinPatch:That poster above is a shocker. Looks like a giant cookie in front of a nude man...
I guess they were trying to be clever and combine the acid burn look with the whole "hey something just came out of a hole in this guy's chest" deal.
But considering that no one had seen the film yet as these were teasers it probably just confused the heck out of anyone who saw it.
Just goes to show, even when the end image is totally simple and iconic (the egg) there's often a ton of stuff left on the cutting room floor before you get there.
Quoted from PinPatch:Looks like a giant cookie in front of a nude man...
Don't be silly....it's a doughnut...
Quoted from HeighwayPinball:The question about the price increase is a valid one.
Generally speaking, our €EUR and $USD prices are subject to fluctuation on a weekly basis depending on a number of factors - mainly currency exchange rates. We do state this clearly on our Store page. Other factors like shipping rates also factor in.
Our €EUR prices have gone up and down a lot over the last 6 months because of large currency fluctuations, but the $USD price hasn't moved until recently.
The reason for the recent price change, which affected both Standard Edition and Limited Edition variants of both Full Throttle and Alien Pinball, comes down to the cost of producing these machines. As well as the features and innovations packed into our machines, we refuse to compromise on quality. This means that we have expensive machines to produce. Costs of parts can go up which means that we must raise our prices as well, unfortunately.
Saying that, our prices 'could' come down in the future as we buy more parts for less, and more processes are moved in-house.
We want to bring both quality and value to pinball, but it may take a while for costs and prices to settle down. We will always do our best to keep our prices as low as possible.
Regarding the screen upgrades, we announced these here, with links to our store. It's true that some of our Full Throttle customers are only receiving their upgrade option emails now - and we apologise for this delay.
Customers can order and pay for their screen upgrade at any time before shipping, by visiting http://heighwaypinball.com/screen/
I think anyone with some level of investment/stock/currency knowledge have to realize, with a European manufacturer, these currency fluctuations are going to continue to happen. I can't really blame the Heighway guys for adjusting prices accordingly. These guys make pinball machines, no do currency hedging. I will be interested to see how this impacts things the next couple of years. 2 of the brighter currency shops, GS & Deutsche Bank, have the Euro @ .78 & .80 against the dollar for 2017. That's another 30% downward move.

The one from Attempt #5 in the link... It looks like a dude in spacesuit (or something) all wound up in spider web. Makes me wonder if the original Alien concept was more spider than wasp-like. I'd love to see a good pic of that poster!

Ah, I must have been counting from a different reference point, I think you're talking about this one:
Love this scene from Aliens. I wonder if it could be incorporated into the Heighway pin? Hmmm...maybe as a video mode or???
Classic, such a cool scene, especially the first time when you have no idea there's an android in their presence

Amazing how young Bill Paxton was back then.
Quoted from CaptK:video mode
Okay, this is me speaking, not an official Heighway response, just to be clear.
But video modes as a general rule suck ass. Just saying. If a Heighway game never has a video mode I won't cry a single tear.
I think the only video mode game I have is the Shadow now, and I actually don't mind that one. But it's an exception.
And yes, I know Flippy Ghost on AMH is my fault.

Might as well add a joystick to the lockdown bar :/

Damnit, don't quote me before I fix my typos!
Also, I might be mixing tequila and red wine, so excuse my typing.

Drinking and typing!? Maybe we do need a hand knife video mode, just don't slip you don't know what the blood might come out as, But seriously, no video modes, there's plenty of phones and arcade machines for that :)
Quoted from RobT:Amazing how young Bill Paxton was back then.
Agreed!
For what it's worth, whenever I think of BP, I always think of Chet from Weird Science:
Edit: I just looked up BP on IMDB...
How many of us here on PinSide remember the Fish Heads music video from 1979? Well, not only did Bill Paxton appear in that classic video, he directed it!!!
Hey Ben Heck, did you know about all of this? Since you made a Bill Paxton pinball machine, perhaps you did!?!
Quoted from Chosen_S:Drinking and typing!?
The dirty secret is if I'm posting after say 9pm Pacific on any given night there's a good chance there's at least onr substance or another flowing through my bloodstream. California living man.
Had a good talk with Andrew tonight. He was much more relaxed, I'm going to say at least so far being married is agreeing with him!
We both agreed that we need to show some more updates to people. Give us some time to get things together and we'll find something to share.

Haha Aurich! Actually, I'm not a big fan of video modes in pins either. I was just having a hard time imagining how to incorporate that classic scene into the Alien pin in any other way. No worries! Now, quit screwing around here on Pinside, and get back to making us the best-looking pin ever! (No pressure...)

I am very capable of screwing around on Pinside and working at the same time!

Was that an actual early marketing idea? Kind of reminds me of The Thing.
Now there would be a great pinball theme.....
Quoted from nephasth:Whenever I think of Bill Paxton, I see him getting punched in the face by Arnold in a red convertible vette. And I smile every time.
So may great Bill Paxton moments! The guy really is very talented. "Ass like a 10 year old boy!"

Dickless! Let's face it, if they took care of business, I'd be out of business!

Classic scene!!!!!
I remember hearing rumors of a True Lies sequel many years ago, but I think that was around the same time Arnold became the Governator so the sequel didn't happen? I'm still up for an Arnold, T. Arnold, JLC, and BP sequel!
Quoted from Methos:Was that an actual early marketing idea?
Yeah, these are all legit ideas from inside Fox. The actual stories behind them I don't know. I'm not leaking anything secret, they're out there already, I just happen to have them all in a folder of JPEGs in the asset library Fox provided.
I think they're very cool, but in a "deleted scene that didn't need to make the movie" kind of way. Gives you some cool insight, but not as good as what was "real".
As I've said before, I'm a huge fan of the Alien "egg". It's just so iconic still, after all these years. They really touched a nerve with it.
Quoted from CaptK:I remember hearing rumors of a True Lies sequel many years ago, but I think that was around the same time Arnold became the Governator so the sequel didn't happen?
Don't blame that one on me, I didn't vote for him!

Just don't do the " IN SPACE NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU TILT" slogan.
Quoted from Aurich:Frankly the climate when Alien was announced in pinball was pretty different. It felt like if you didn't throw your card into the ring people were going to commit all their pinball funds to other pre-orders.
If announcing Alien prevented one person from putting down money on Predator or a JFlop game, then it was worth it.
So that's how you hook up a smoke machine to a pinball.
Now just add those rotating beacons/cool sounds /RGB Lighting effects / shaker motor rumbles and Aliens
Holy crap........
Please Andrew no custom quotes related to pinball, there are humourous line in Aliens, Paxton mainly that could work well but that should be it.
My favorite call out of Stern Star Trek is "Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a pinball wizard". Of course, they had the actor available for custom VO. Since I doubt there will be custom actor VO work for a 35 year old film, you are probably safe.
I personally hope the artistic theme is primarily ALIEN (1979) with play field and mission references from both films.

Tom Skerritt and Harry Dean Stanton (maybe others) did voiceover work for the Alien Isolation video game. Not sure if its affordable for a smaller company like Heighway, but it at least shows the actors don't feel they're above doing it.
PS: My favorite Star Trek call out is "Are you drunk?" I'm not even sure what triggers it, maybe draining right after you start a mode. I've only heard it a few times and it makes me laugh every single time.
Quoted from iceman44:Pin A that has an LCD display over Pin B that doesn't gets my money going forward.
Yeah it's a big F ing deal
How great would TWD or ST be with it?
Sorry, the era of DMD and Atari are OVER!
I played pong in the eighties, I want LCD in my pins now. Obviously some have figured it out.
I agree Ice! I spoke with my wallet. 2 pins ordered from Heighway, zero from Stern.

I will be in a better position to give an opinion on this when I get Full Throttle or Alien, but based on the videos I've seen of FTH, I have to disagree.
I really don't have any reason to believe that TWD would be any better at all, much less significantly better, with a smallish LCD screen like the one in Full Throttle. TWD already has possibly the best dots that I have ever seen in a pinball machine. I would actually be concerned that TWD would not be as good with an LCD screen at this point in the game.
At least the LCD screens that JJP is using a large and therefore very immersive (though I still question the value in that because of the inability to take it in while playing). Heighway's LCD is in the PF so at least it's easier to see...but it's fairly small. The option to have one in the backbox is cool, but again, it's small.
Of course the possibilities with a theme like Alien with the LCD are great, so I very much look forward to seeing what Heighway does here. Time will tell.

I feel like I should agree with this, but I kind of find the DMD's sort of charming. I have 65" TV's and super duper smart phones in my face all time. I do still like the old arcade games and stuff too though. If I didn't like that stuff, I don't think pinball would appeal to me either... I'd just be another one of the dozens that ask me why I don't just play Pinball Arcade on the iPad.
My only real frame of reference is WOZ, and the LCD in the backglass always looked kind of tacked on to me. Maybe Stern will implement it better. They will probably just go the Color DMD route. I know a lot of people love it, but thats a lateral move to me.

Wow , I'm a loser, posting 3 x in a row...
Some guys are adding a $36.00 lcd screen to the apron in woz, it hooks right up to the computer, I should be able to install one soon, I understand the effect makes the lcd experience actually attainable rather than missing most of the effect...
I like the addition of an lcd in the playfield, alien could take advantage of the LCD In a lot of ways, I'm not creative with video, but I certainly know when it sucks. Don't suck video editor guy! Ridley Scott may be watching. Oh yeah, and make it uber scarry, I want to jump every time something is supposed to be startling :)
Quoted from Chosen_S:Don't suck video editor guy!
Don't worry, he doesn't. Professional animator, but also a big pinhead.
I have to agree the LCD screen on WOZ is a huge plus....people complain about the size ( whatever), but from an information, gameplay, and video clip standpoint, it is very effective.....
Full screen animations that interact w gameplay just look great ("special") is my favorite, and when it breaks into quad view during the game, it is VERY helpful. Once you get used to it, just glancing up during the game is all it takes.
All that said...this is why I'm going w 2 displays on my Alien....Andrew mentions early that " initially" the screens will simply mirror each other. If it ends up w different , proprietary content per screen, how cool will that be!!!!
Nice to see chatter picking up on in this thread....the anticipation is building!!!.....mark
Any notions on alien preview of finished pf, any animations, or cab art? I'm assuming licensing isn't THAT slow. Weeks turn to months turn to, well, you get it.
Just concerned the time for excitement may pass by for this title like a few others if things progress too slowly?
Always the issue I guess with announcing a title way too early.
I wish heighway the best and hope their timing works out!
