Hi Tom,
Yes, fully agree. Would like to know how to adjust the big in the middle for the color changing (I) effect and the 2 small LED strips, logically they can be only the lighting for the Weapon insert, but how have they been mounted there?
I guess I'm going to mount the 2 small controllerboards to the backsite of playfield. Would help to don't demount the whole Apron if playing with the effects by using the poti's.

#102 2 years ago

I mounted now the 2 long Strobo stipes by using 3M double sided band. Cutting into small lang strips and glue onto the 3d printed mounting frame.
Be very carefully, I needed to resolder the 3 thin cables to the stripe, they brake off quite easy.
So thats fits now as well as reglued with elastic Pattex the weapon insert and acid burn holes (styropor).
Not sure how to align the middle LED block and the 2 small LED Stripes ... might be "Weapon ready" and "Weapon cycling" lightning ...

With the help from Felix I was able to fix it.

I had the same glue issue when received, i used industrial double sided tape instead.
I also had 2 missing 1'' connectors (Vimtoman?), that i have ordered separately.
Now it' s in place, It's beautiful and i'm so happy to have a REAL apron instead of the old plastic crap.
Big Thanks to Faust and vimtoman for the work!

Heres some info and pictures for the electronics to help out.
I've updated it since sending to Felix.
I had left the documents to Felix to do but really should have done them.
My appologies for the cable I chose as not great stuff

I think I've helped out most people that got a LEGO box instead of a plug n play apron.
Sorry about that!
By the time the first reports of hotglue letting go arrived, all were made and shipped.
I warned most users already about it.

Funny thing is that it seems to be rock solid here....
Twister said it may be due to temperature changes (in combination with the powdercoat).
In any case I will never use it again anymore.

With the help from Andrew and Felix I wS able to install mine as well. Took just couple of minutes after reglued all the parts.
I’m happy

My arrived disassembled as well. Trying to get it back together. I have four of these black pieces and can't figure out where they go. Can anyone help?

Thanks

fossmin they are mounts for the led strip.
Mounting and aligning.
The locking ones go at each far end .
Place the non locking at the ball entrance.
Wires exit to the center where the Alien logo and controllers mount.
They have a long section for alignment.
Pictures of items attached. I do not have an apron so cannot show you in situe.
Maybe someone can take a picture just to varify it for you .

Is there consensus on which 12V power supply should be used for the upgrade? Or how to tell if yours is original an needs to be updated? I believe I have read elsewhere that running powered mods in this game with the original 12V PS is asking for trouble.

I have Beowulfz07 version of PSU. Link below

Depending on layout you may have to shift the relay.

Late to the forum here. This Apron is awesome. You guys did a great job. We got our Alien early this year and she is in the shop getting a little work done. This apron would just top her off right. We would like to get one on to update her, is it possible to still get one? Faust Vimtoman

I'm afraid he's very hard to get.

I purchased from him and sent him money on March 3rd for "It is the very last one I have, and I can throw in a prototype version of the apron that you can use in a DIY project (powedercoated apron)", admittedly at a discount - since I guess he was cleaning out.

Since then - around 20 messages from me asking for updates to his half dozen, and eventually he only sent one apron.

He didn't tell me until I received it, and I messaged him to get told "...at the post office they took out 1 because the shipping weight exceeded 5 kgs which is the maximum, and I didn't want to pay..."

He hasn't responded to my messages in the days since - so I guess, the extra item he offered, is an absorbed loss.

Lighting wise, not sure what to do - it's loose wires, loose LED strips, and loose gels. No instructions at all. I have an electrician mate, we will work it out.

Overall, I will make what he sent work, and the quality of what was sent looks good - but will he do more, or remain active? I can't be sure about that.

Edit: Faust has provided a refund for the missing apron now, thank you Faust for rectifying this.

That is the very rear of playfield underside. Bottom when the playfield is raised.

The blue plastic in the corner of your image is a pop bumper base.

------

I have a question for anyone. See those I/O board nylon retaining screws in that image above, my game has hex head (alot smaller than those in the image) and some are missing. These look more like thumb screw style??

Anyone know where best to source these type?

Hi Alien Apron Friends

I had suddenly problems with balls delivered to the shooterlane, sometimes they got stuck, sometimes 2 balls get to the shooterlane.
So I figured out: It is the nice apron.
What happened: The double adhesive tape didnt stick anymore, so the metall part glued to the apron became loose, balls where hit against this part.
Just new 3M tape would be a solution .. for the next weeks .... So did the following:

Remove the little tap on the metall, bring on a post like on wireforms.
New 3M tape and a little screw the wooden ballguide right to the shooterlane.
Hopefully this will last a little longer.

Trying to finally get this installed. I have Heighway .94 boards. My board says K2 at this location with three blue wires. Is this where these two plugs go?

Thanks

Cut the shortes left side and resolder on the right side should work.
The rgb stripes with dataconnection should also be available on amazon, ebay, radio shack, etc ....

But sure would be great if Felix would give advice.

Hello everybody

I come to ask you for help. I ordered an apron from Faust which I received. It is magnificent I congratulate the work, but I am very disappointed to find myself unable to do anything with it alas! Nothing was practically provided to me with to do like yours and for the same price I think. apart from the wires without connectors, 4 non-RGB white LED strips, no 3D support to put the LEDs. the alien logo I only have the white plate without the support and color control part. the nostromo plate will be delivered to me later normally.

- how to do for the 3D supports?
- how to do once I have real RGB leds to order the colors of my choice?
- how to arrange the leds for the logo?

thank you

This is what I have:

#124 1 year ago

Did you order it this way ?
I recieved a fully mounted apron but in transportation everythig was loose. But with all the missing 3D printed parts !?
Also .. where is the arduino or whatever drives the lightshow ? There should be RBG-Leds with many options for adjustments !!

EXPECT: You ordered it this way !!

That's what I got from faust. Only the strobe should not be there. But the rest I thought so. Alas what you see on the photo is what I received.... Basically fuck you. That's why I'm asking for help because I don't know how I can do it.

#126 1 year ago

Sorry about that, but you are missing a lot of parts.

#127 1 year ago

Yes thank you that's why I came to ask for help because I don't know how to do it at all.

#128 1 year ago

That might be a point for a discussion:
The strobe is the main thing for the controllerboard.
Only the "Alien" lettering is also "involved".

So again the question: WHAT did you order ? It seems that you ordered a set without the controller and strobe effect. Than you should be able to use what you have. No effects but a lightet apron. We do not know about your deal with Faust .

#129 1 year ago

You only have a metal apron and you are missing all the electronics under the apron. This isn’t a simple to make as it should be. Only option you have is to contact Faust to send you the remaining parts or you have to stick leds in there and run them to certain points

My deal with Faust was everything. Except the strobe because it didn't have more. But not that he wouldn't have the rgb leds, the nostromo plate, and the command for the logo

#131 1 year ago

AMSNL I have already contacted Faust but to put it simply he doesn't have the material. And he told me to follow this link.

#132 1 year ago

If he sold you it as a set and you only got that. Then you have to send it back and or claim your money back. I believe Vimtoman was the original electronics master on this project . Maybe he can help you.

The returned no. 1 because I find it beautiful and 2 I would lose money. Its cost me dearly i wish i could make it work like everyone else.

#134 1 year ago

I already pointed you in the direction. Ask the guy

Quoted from AMSNL:

I got my answer the vimtoman:

Sorry but I only made one set for Faust and no more.
If he is selling aprons without the electronics you should ask him.

The apron mod was not mine but his.

I am really disappointed. I feel like I've had it. for me only the strobe should not be there and I find myself with an apron at almost 300 euro which will do nothing while I love this apron.

The "Nostromo plate" was an extra and was also extra money ! It was not in the basic kit.
As explained, the pcb is just needet for the strobe .. no strobe no pcb.
You can buy for small money some rgb leds with a conztoller so you can choose colors and small effects. But it will not so easy interact with the pin. Maybe you can crossconnect to a led on the playfield and have at least some effects.

Yes, Vimtoman was the "Head Of Engeneering" and did a famous job ! He also was very helpfull and resonded fast on Email.
Faust was hard to get and in a review ... it seems that Faus took too much load/work to oneself. Everything was slow, the kits were careless boxed.

Maybe you can ask Vimtoman for the electronics. But than you should not annoy him with questions

So recently had this installed and absolutely love the apron. Only question is how do you change the flicker speed of the flashing during alien mb? Right now it’s way too quick. Thanks

#140 40 days ago

There is a little pcb installed with some potiometers on. Try them.
