Hi all, I've got an Aladdin's Castle that I'm slowly getting up to snuff. I've got an issue with the 10's place scoring. It seems to be stuck on at the very first 10 point button/trigger press. Behavior is...

1. On turn on or game reset no coil buzz
2. At first ball when it rolls over the 10 point buttons at top (or when I manually press any 10 point trigger) the 10 point coil in the head locks on but the score reels (for either player) do not update.
3. Inside the cabinet the ball coil also locks on at this time, this is where I start to hear a minor coil buzz.
4. If I have the chimes plugged in (currently not) the 10 point chime coil makes a loud buzzing, i.e. stuck on.
5. Game plays normally near as I can tell besides not scoring any 10's.
6. The match counter/display works fine.
7. Reseated, filed, cleaned, and de-oxit'd all the j connector contacts.
8. The 10's worked IIRC a few days ago before I tore everything apart and cleaned contacts etc. Undoubtedly I geeked something but all the switches that I checked look like they work as they should.

I do have schematics but I'm having trouble reading them as the parts placement in relation to the schematic is not clear to me. Any guidance from the more experienced folks would be appreciated, thanks!

I've circled the coil inside the cab that is set at first button press...

Hi. dont have that pin, but would start with the 10's score reel, it has an EOS switch. i think, and that switch is what cancels the 10 point relay. if the reel does not move, no cancel.
try a new game, hit a 10, then manually step the 10 reel up one place, and see if relay cancels. if not, unplug before it burns up.
look on the schematic, find the 10 point reel coil, and follow backwards to the relay, prob got a switch not closing and passing power to reel.

Thanks doc, I'll check that after work and post what I find. I did do a manual score reel move by hand (pulled back the coil plunger that was set) and it reset the held 10 point coil so I'll look closer at the EOS switch. Strange it would be both players though if it was the score reel but I was cleaning stuff back there so maybe messed them both up.

Hi bkbirge
I believe Your problem is in my "red line" - the 10 Point Score-DRUM is not activated. Greetings Rolf

Hi
an add-on to my post-5: Dr_of_Style has said it: "follow backwards to the relay" . I "jumped" at bkbirge's remark "will have a closer look at the EOS-Switch". Greetings Rolf

Thanks all, very helpful. I've been cleaning switch contacts with a q tip which is really too wide for the job and the eos switch on the 10's got separated a bit too much then wasn't being triggered. On to flipper rebuild next, pin is shaping up quite nicely. I appreciate the help!

I have this machine also.would like to compare wiring hookup with you.I need a few pics myself.if I'm correct.you have not played game yet.some wiring may be issue.contact me and I will send pics of wiring in switch area you showed.my harness was cut at factory in junction and then double tied.first time someone pulled out score reels to service they rolled wires in harness and head scratching started. and my game sat for 40 years.would like to help each other.

#9 7 years ago

Also would like to add.info on production wrong.have tag with serial number and my game is 4348.forums claim production of 4200 made.i can show tag.

Sorry .took me long to respond.the mower called.yes.that really helps.needed to know that green and blacks were all doubles going to top post of score switches.it was forth score reel looking at it from front of machine .I guess tenth spot next to fake zero insert.the wire then runs down to score motor cam .disc one I believe.just can't tell which post.is it also a double green, black tracer.

Added over 8 years ago: Note the short orange wires on the right main flipper (2nd pic, 1st assembly from left) are replacement wires, the originals were blue like the other assemblies shown, just in case you are trying to follow color coding.

Your dark green wire looks to be different from mine. Does it originate from the top middle eos on coil #3? Its hard to tell from your picture. If so both wires tie into the top slot on the top right side eos of coil #4. If you can get me a clearer pic of that wires origin i can confirm.

Dark green originates from 3rd.top where pinky finger is touching.green with black trace comes from harness.from looks of your pic.you have dark green with black trace where I just have dark green. But I see they both attach to top post on end of switch.no wires are hooked to mine.so I'm thinking by your pic .they both go there like you said.thanks so much .thrillhouse.you've been life saver.

#21 7 years ago

Also I may need a little more help with a couple other post.or tech advice.stay tuned if you will.would also like to see your machine.how long you had it.would like to show mine when done.like I said ,just got mine few weeks ago. But making good headway.thanks again.

Hi bkbirge
I believe, Your "problems" are solved - nice pictures in post-16 (after rebuild).

Hi pinballbrian, Thrillhouse --- in case You do NOT have a good schematics (and use the ipdb stuff) - here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/aladdinss-castle-schematics-on-archiveorg-more , post-1 and some links - that 2.4 MB PDF (schematic_continuous) in "archive.org" is nice, greetings Rolf
