Al's Garage Band goes on a World Tour

I have Al's Garage Band (Alvin G), and I have got everything working on it with the exception of DMD. It just shows all of the dots lit up fully. No movement, no changes in shade. I have checked the connector wires and everything seems in place. I have done a few more things involving the wire connectors to no avail.
A new DMD controller is around $100. Should I go ahead and just get one and try it? Or is there something else I should try first?
No one responded, but I did figure out the issue. There was a small daughter board soldered directly to the DMD controller that wasn't on the schematic. I have no idea what it was. I unsoldered it then everything worked. Hope this helps somebody.
