I took a good look at the playfield when I unpacked mine and I have to say major kudos to Chicago Gaming on PF protection. The ramps have metal protectors so you should be good there. The scoop has mantis style, but mine were installed almost flush. The only spot I was even moderately concerned about was the drop targets but it looks like they put extra mylar squares and such in those spots, along with mylar for the ball drops.
I actually ordered a AFM set from Cliff but personally after seeing the protection that it comes with, I am not going to install anything extra right now unless I see wear or chipping. For HUO, unless you and your family are playing around the clock - hundreds of games a day, probably won't remotely be an issue.

The game will have a Mantis style SoL hole protector and ramp protectors pre-installed.
Quoted from spazzman90:New school meets it's inspiration. Both great games.
Which do you like better?
The remake.
I've been playing the original for over 20 years so I was ready for a change. I only wish Medieval Le got the same loving homage. All the admittedly visual (I guess sound too) upgrades should keep me loving it for another 20 years.

Come on at least do a fair comparison lol.... 20170831_231811 (resized).jpg20170831_231812 (resized).jpg20170831_231742 (resized).jpg20170831_231726 (resized).jpg20161115_111626 (resized).jpg

A little upgrades go a long way in making a older pin feel fresh..... thats for sure. Even if its just leds and a color dmd it can help alot imo.
Sorry. My post was in no way meant to disrespect the original. If the remake was to play 'better' than an original it would clearly be the better game. But it doesn't, so it's just an homage to the original with bling. Here's to both getting plenty of play and love for more decades to come.

O i know ...
With the lack of HEP (or similar) restored or highly modded originals to play in my area, I would have to say that my NIB AFMrLE plays better than any original I have ever played, mostly because its brand new and really well done.
The big plusses are adjustable coils, sound and lighting. No way can an older original compete with modern tech IMHO...
Its plays like a dream game.
The sound, lighting and visual impact is stunning.
I am so happy that I waited for this remake other than restoring an original.
Now if I can get the headphones installed...It would be perfect...

Exactly this. Every single original AFM that I've played has been a war-weary veteran. What that tells me is that the game is so great that it doesn't get passed by much.
My goal and hope is to keep mine looking and playing as factory fresh as I possibly can!

I wonder what they'll both look like in another 20yrs time. Will WPC95 still be clinging on?

Actually im more concerned for newer pins in 20 years ...... this day in age most electronics are throw away after 5-8 years..

Hopefully CGC can get plenty of pins out there. The more they build, the more demand there will be to keep them running down the road. Via keeping the original equipment running or creating a new solution.

So 20 plus year old pins won't bother you in 20 more years.

Nope they have been great and are very serviceable to this point so y wld that change ? Lots of late 70s and early 80s pins still going strong and id expect the same from the 90s pins especially if they have been gone over with the known fixes.

For sure.... only time will tell tho. Im sure everything will be fine.... at least id like to hope so for all the newer stuff i buy.

Parts on the circuit boards going obsolete. You find any amps for WPC audio boards lately.
Age is hard on everything, not just the new stuff.

There are a few folks that can fix them for now but there are other options thank goodness if that ever is a issue. Thats like the only real thing one may have to worry about on wpc pins down the road imo. In most cases everything can be fixed pretty easy just like they always have been. Im no pro but have fixed most my own board issues over the years due to the great documention and the simplicity of the older systems.
Quoted from LTG:Age is hard on everything, not just the new stuff.
Exactly, even me...When my AFMr is 20 I'll probably be dead.
So, I'll let my heirs figure it out should they even consider keeping the game I have then.
Still plenty of time left (I hope) to convince my wife that a trip to Minnesota to say hi is a good idea.

If you ever do. Please let me know in advance so I can make your visit special.

Quoted from chrisnack:Not a single one from Game Room guys yet huh?
FWIW, I got mine from GRG about 3 weeks ago.
Quoted from CigarJeff:FWIW, I got mine from GRG about 3 weeks ago.
When did you order and were you a matching LE number customer? I purchased in May (non-matching), but GRG haven't contacted me to collect the balance yet. They said they would be doing that a few weeks ago.
The distributor I went through hasn't contacted me yet on the balance and I figure I'm near the bottom of his LE allocation.
Quoted from wcbu64:When did you order and were you a matching LE number customer? I purchased in May (non-matching), but GRG haven't contacted me to collect the balance yet. They said they would be doing that a few weeks ago.
I ordered the same day as the announcement. Mine is a matching serial number game. Hope this helps.
Quoted from wcbu64:Thanks . . . it looks like I'll be somewhere in the LE production run following the MMr run.
Yeah, that's what i figured as well. Heidi said i was about 3/4 down on the list when i asked where i was on it.
Quoted from CigarJeff:I ordered the same day as the announcement. Mine is a matching serial number game. Hope this helps.
Shocked that you seem to be the only one, though GRG was fairly big. Or their entire allotment is in the second batch.
Speaking of toppers, is the Martian super loud on all of these toppers? I had to turn the motor off so I could hear the game (I keep the volume low, it's in my office).
Quoted from paynemic:I had to turn the motor off so I could hear the game (I keep the volume low, it's in my office).
Not sure. I keep my volume up high, so I barely hear the guy.
Quoted from paynemic:Speaking of toppers, is the Martian super loud on all of these toppers?
It's pretty loud...the dog comes in the room and barks at it.
Robert
I have the motor turned off, not for noise but to keep the guy whacking his head on my basement ceiling... . Light show is enough for me.
Quoted from turbo20lbs:Could someone please measure the height of just the topper?
The topper height is 9" from the top of the BB and the Martian jumps up, maybe 0.75" from the 9 inch dimension.
Robert
