This is a bit of a re-post from an existing thread "AFM: Must Have Mods":

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/afm-must-have-mods

I presume some of the existing mods designed for AFM will not work with the new AFMr due to design changes (access point/voltage changes, etc.), or are simply not needed any more (Bill Ung's Saucer Kit, back panel kit, etc.). Still, many of the original AFM mods looks pretty nice - I'd love to know which ones can be carried over into AFMr.

There are a few that come to mind that are appealing to me; I'm sure there are others I'm not even aware of yet!

(1) Flashing Martian figure eyes

--> http://wolfsoft.de/wordpress/?p=1984
--> https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/martian-led-eyes

(2) Red eye plastics:

--> ebay.com link: like

--> http://www.pinballdecals.com/PartsByGamePages/AFM_Page.html
--> https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Uhg5mQLXBaM

(3) Scoop Illumination (SOL Lit & Extra Ball)

--> http://www.leesparts.com/products/afm-extraball-light.html
--> http://www.leesparts.com/products/afm-strokeofluck-light.html

(4) Drop Bank Illumination

--> ebay.com link: AFM Attack From Mars Pinball Drop Bank Target Light Mod

(5) Stand-Up Target Decals

--> http://www.pinballdecals.com/PartsByGamePages/AFM_Page.html

(6) Custom Apron

--> http://www.pinballdecals.com/PartsByGamePages/AFM_Page.html

(7) 3D AFM Translight

--> http://www.planetarypinball.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PPM-3D-RFM-TRANSLITE

Any clue which of these will or will not work with the new AFMr? Any more links to add??

What's on your AFMr mod hit list?

I want to know if 7. 3D AFM Translight is OK? part of me thinks yes. I think this as I have the 3D MM Translight on my MMR LE. I would hate to get one and have it not fit.

My AFM has been transformed by Pingraffix AFM PowerBladez. It's fun to see people wrench their neck and ask how the light "gets in there"...

Go to 1:30 of this video to see how awesome they look:

(3) Lee's scoop illumination mod will not work with AFMr. Bummer. I made a simple scoop mod for my JP and it looks great. I was hoping this could be done on AFMr.

(4) Indypinhead's drop target illumination mod *should* work on AFMr as it simply clips to the 6.3v GI.

Picked up an afmr at the York show from cointaker. Started modding it today, back was really dark, could barely see the detail back there...not any more! We will have this combo mod on our website in the next day or so, will include trough light and two backboard lights.

I have Powerblades (I refuse to spell it with a Z) and the EL backglass mod. Both phenomenal.

Thanks for putting this together, also curious what mods would work on AFMr as well.

I own this (from Lermods.com) and it's a great addition to my AFMLE. It's not random color changing as it's tied into the speaker lighting (which is tied into the modes). It really draws attention to an already awesome pin. Super quick and clean install as well.

Yeah That lighting really gets a lot of attention on my game!

PDI glass is an excellent addition. The playfield is beautiful with those jewel-like faceted LED inserts and this glass shows everything to its best advantage.

Do the colors sync to the speakers? Or just flashes with them?

It syncs to the speaker lights. Whatever those lights are doing is being replicated under the cabinet at the same time. It's really awesome and I highly recommend it.

Everything about the under cabinet lighting is in the owners thread. The design, the interactivity with the game ect... The modes in the game coinside with the colors that are produced for the speaker LEDs. It's a must have IMHO and I never really cared for under cabinet lighting.

Yeah that's pretty awesome if the colors sync, otherwise i am not a fan of under cabinet lighting, but that is pretty cool. Might have to get it now, darn!

EDIT: ORDERED!

Sweet let me know if you need any help on the install.

Awesome, i searched and read the posts in the owners thread. Thanks for helping develop it.

Now i just need someone to make the martian LED eyes at a reasonable price because I don't feel like doing it...

I will second this, i run PDI on both MMr and AFMr, makes a big difference IMO. I pulled the sheet off my Sinbad, and now i need to get another because it looks awful without the PDI!

Any you guys try that HD glass from pinball life? How does it compare to Invisiglass or PDI. Its quite a bit cheaper $100 or so...

You are going to get alot of opinions on this from various people. I personally think the PDI/Roman glass is the best.

Not sure which one pinball life sells, maybe the new stern glass?

Sounds like a topic for a new thread.

Hi. I just received my AFMR and I love the game but I am now thinking about possible mods that could make it even better. Can you please tell me what the EL back glass mod is and where I can find it? I am also looking at the 3D translate mod that Planetary Pinball is offering; any opinions on that? Thanks.

Pinball news did a comparison between PDI glass and invisiglass a few years ago. They preferred PDI.

Passionforpinball.com is Cliff's site. You can get them direct:

http://www.passionforpinball.com/AFM-thin/afm_thin.htm

Make sure you tell him if you have an original AfM or the remake as the remake is *slightly* different and requires different protectors.

How do those connect up? I saw them at a show on MMr and liked them. Been debating for awhile but wasn’t sure what they tied into.

That light show is second to none! You should send a video to Youtube and post a link.
