On a PAPA game play video (was actually to demonstrate the color DMD) I noticed the player (Bowen I think) avoiding the center shot during hurry ups...just letting it count down from 100 million and never taking the shot.

Why would a (good) player do this? Is it just a general aversion to shooting the center for fear of randomness and losing the ball, or is there another strategic reason to avoid it?

I always go for it, as it's satisfying and I love "2 for 1" shots.

You can stack the hurry-ups by completing the other shots and build up a huge point value.

How huge we talking? Like if I get two hurry ups going at once, what's the payoff? And do the scores/time reset?

Stack all 4 for a Billion hurry-up!

if you stack all 4 at once you go straight to total annihilation and get 1 billion points for completing the hurry-ups w/o making the target shot.

He's not actually timing them out. Once the score counts down, the hurry up is still technically running for many seconds afterwards. Starting another hurry up restarts the timer and resets the value to a higher number. If you actually time the hurry up out completely , the stacking doesn't happen.

I can't remember the staging of the scoring, but the above folks are correct in saying the max is 1 billion for starting all the hurry ups, and it collects immediately (and starts total annihilation.)

it's 100M/300M/500M/1B for stacking them.

Also, shooting the centre shot is Bad, so someone like Cayle will shoot the right loop to open the gate and allow the ball to loop, ignore the Hurry-Up, and go back to shooting locks.
