All the diodes on the ball lane switches have blown. What could have caused this? I don't want to change all the diodes until I find out what caused it. The only thing I did was change the dmd to color led dmd. Since then after a few games the game would tilt just after hitting the Martian targets. Anyone have an idea. Please help

On the switch ? Don't you mean diodes ? And have you removed them and checked them with a meter ? Why do you think they are blown ?

More likely you have a switch matrix issue. Switch wired wrong, diode on backwards, a short to switch wiring - at the switch lugs or wiring.

I'd start by checking any switches on ramps that balls could have hit, then the stand up targets where the solder joints are close together and may have gotten bent.

Look over your switch matrix in your manual, at the row and column the plumb bob tilt is on, check those switches carefully.

Yes. You are right. It's the diodes. Just frustrated and tired. I checked them with the meter and the diodes have open current going both ways. Can anyone send me photos of the orientation of the diodes for the Martian targets.

Just to be sure: you disconnected at least one end of the diode from the switch before checking with your meter, right?

Pretty unlikely to ALL be faulty. Maybe one is causing you to think they are all shorted?

Start at the beginning and work logically through things.

Eliminate ONE thing at a time.

Please don't assume "all the XXX are blown" - that situation is very VERY rare.

Okay I only took 4 out. I will check each one.

+1, the diodes don't always read right while attached to the switches, although this is more common with microswitches than leaf switches (I assume the martian targets are leaf switches)

Yes. I did.

Yes. I did change the diodes in the Martians. I just need to see the orientation of the diodes to see if I got it wrong

I will try it and let you know. Thank you

I fixed it at 5am. I can't believe just reversing one diode could cause all this problem. Thanks for everyone's help. Have a wonderful day

Yes indeed, that's exactly why I said not to think death and destruction FIRST.

You learned from it. Something pops up, first think what is the last thing I worked on.

And Williams pins of your games era have a basic wiring scheme. White wire and black end of diode there, green wire there, silver band end of diode there. The same on every switch, though micro switches and stand ups look a little different.
