Quoted from McCune:Those appear to be plated . Are you using the Bill Ung kit ?
You are correct, they are plated but I had it done using a vacuum metalizing process, which results in a very thin (1-2mil) thick plating as opposed to an electroplating process which ends up >15 mil. So the ung kit still fits .
The small saucers came out perfect, the main saucer which I believe was an aftermarket replacement came back with some minor imperfections.... But nothing that you would ever notice... They had some issues getting the base to adhere to the type of plastic used in the main saucer. Overall I think it will look great!
Quoted from McCune:The fit is not a problem as have done 4 full sets of metalized saucers. The only thing to watch for is shorting out the kit as the plastic saucers are now metal coated, test them with your ohm meter.
Ah, good call! I was thinking about that when test fitting the ung kit in the one saucer. I'll probably line the underside with some non-conductive material.
