hi all,

Will be migrating the my old AFM playfield over to a Mirco shortly, but think i'm missing a metal post and would appreciate confirmation from any other AFM owners.

It's probably a supporting hex post which goes underneath where the VUK drops the ball onto the metal rails. Between the Lobster ramp and the Lock lane, both left of the Mothership.

The photos show the hole in the plastic, the metal where it might connect to, and what appears to be where the TNut used to be on the underside.

Can you confirm i need to buy a post? If so, what's the part exactly?

I think it might be this a 2" post like this: http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/02-4568-3

cheers.

Yes, you are missing the habitrail support spacer there. The item you linked is correct as long as the height is exactly right. I'd have to go measure to be sure.

Yes, you are indeed missing the post used to support the left return wirefrom ramp. Oddly enough, this was missing on the last AFM I did as well. The original post is an oddball size, not a 1/4" hex post – it has a wider diameter, want to say 3/8”. I can’t remember the exact specs on it though. I couldn't find it for sale anywhere, just ended up making one from scratch.

Quoted from GaryMartin:

That part is not correct, although you could make it work.

The part you want is a 5/16" hex post. Both ends should be male with 8-32 threads. Overall length is 3 1/8" long. The length of the hex portion is 2 1/16" long.

The only place I've been able to find these has been Pinball Spare Parts in Australia, but it doesn't look like they have them in stock.

Appreciate the advice - if you come across this particular part anywhere please do update this thread.

Seems easy enough to fit, so I'll get on with planning the work regardless.

i think this is the part (02-5238-2)

(out of stock)

http://www.bestofpinball.de/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/9708
(out of stock)

Is there a combination of 2 hex posts i could use to make up this part? e.g. a male-to-male 2" + a male to female
or a thinner 1/4" substitute that is in stock, ideally in Europe somewhere? for example:

I feel the rail needs this support each time the ball is popped out the VUK as the whole area shakes a fair bit!

Cheers.

Then again, this old post suggests it might be part 02-5238-1...

You know, I was missing that same post on my AFM when I bought it. After doing a bunch of searching I found this: http://www.pinball.co/Products/3157-02-5238-1.aspx

However, instead of ordering just 1 part and getting it shipped from Australia I decided instead to just kinda piece together my own. I bought a 2 inch hex standoff for $2, some threaded posts & a couple washers. Boom, done.

Also, the part you're actually looking for (assuming it's the one that goes between the playfield & the ramp) is 02-5238-1. See more info here:

Edit: And I see you've already discovered that!

Mine was missing also and actually looked like it was never installed since I didnt see any impression in the playfield wood. Crazy.

i don't think mine ever had one either, there's the 3 teeth marks from the t-nut, but no other marks or evidence one was ever actually there for any reasonable time period - very odd.

Personally i think it could do with it for the sake of the ramp and nearby plastics, but it's lasted this long without so who knows!

After posting my thoughts on part 02-5238-1 i did the very same thing and found Pinball.co in stock, so i ordered one with a few other (light) handy bits to justify the shipping. Mind you, it was far less than shipping from the US!

I purchased a lot of aluminum hex spacers to solve this problem with my AFM (the post that was on my game had the top threaded post broken off, so the ramp just sat on top of it. The original spacers were 2-1/16" (hex body length) with threaded posts top and bottom. Mine are just a hair under 2" and instead of a top threaded post, they have a female threaded socket. So to complete the solution, I simply added a couple washers to the top of the spacer and then fasten the ramp to it with a machine screw (8-32) and washer (above the ramp wire). To make this even easier, you could epoxy the washers in place.

I've attached a photo to show the dimensions of the spacers (they won't come with the washers and screw that I've shown it with).

In any event, I have 8 of these left if anyone is interested. I've kept one spare, so I'm happy to let these go to new homes. And don't worry about postage.
