Usually DMD's don't suddenly die. Swap the DMD & see if that is it, but I'm betting it's the display driver board.
The problem more often is the HV section of the AV Board (top board).
You can test the HV quite easily with a DMM.

If you find the voltages out, if you don't have experience reworking PCBs, send the board to a pro. They are too valuable to not be careful with. I can take care of it if you'd like.

Have him replace the filter caps too.
160uf/150V.
220uf works fine
They sometimes fail and cause "rolling".

Is that true about the ColorDMD upgrade? I was wanting to do that upgrade anyway. Are you saying the HV does not have to be fixed for the color DMD to work? That seems weird but I am sure there is technical reason why that is the case. I am sure I would spend at least $100 to have PCB HV fixed.

The ColorDMD runs off on 12 volts, no high voltage.

Absolutely true, the High voltage on the DMD driver board is there specifically to power the plasma display. If you install a color DMD, I would remove both fuses from the DMD driver board to completely shut down the high voltage section.
