I've got a GZ on order, but have loved AFM since the 90s and always wanted to add it. While the gameplay is different, the storylines are somewhat similar, and even some of the call out voices in GZ echo the style of AFMs opening. Does anyone have both in a small collection? Do they ever feel redundant, or are the playing styles so different that you don't even notice?

They don't play at all alike. Too many differences to even think they are similar.

You are over thinking this.

That is a distinct possibility.

With all due respect, a real possibility

I have AFMle as my only machine currently. I have ordered a GZ to add to it. I feel fine those being the only two in my current two game setup.

Own the games you enjoy playing!

These 2 games are absolutely, totally different. There isn’t even a Tokyo landmark to destroy in AFMs

Back when this was a gameplay hobby, the question was, "are AFM and MM too similar for one collection?" Now it's a theme hobby, so here we are.

Can't it be both? I actually have no interest in having MM at the same time as AFM for this very reason. For me, both things are worth considering. With a small collection, balance is everything.

That said. The reassurance is reassuring!

But they do both have Martians.

If you're not too into theme whoring its fine; they are nothing alike.

Yeah I never understood it either. Yiubever see the horror guys that think they have to own Freddy?! Ouch
2 great games work together almost always. Of course AFM MM is real with the same layout

Ahhhhh. Now I get what you mean by theme whoring.

Putting aside gameplay, I think the storylines are much, much, much different.

I own afm, and as far as I know, the storyline is simply, "martians are attacking, we need to fight them off" - right?

Or is there more to it that I don't know?
