I want to drive a strip of 12V leds and found a 12V (actually 11.3V) near the coin door. The only problem is that when I connect it the LEDs are barely on? Not enough current on that 12v source?
What is the best place on an AFM to get 12V from?
This must be a common question but I did not find the answer anywhere.

I tapped into J140. The led strip must draw too much current because my fuse blows after a while. Very unusual, I always thought the strips draw very little current. It's only 8 X 5050 smd I am driving. Do you guys use a separate power source?

Quoted from markmon:

Do you also have a colordmd? Are the strips taped onto metal where they may be occasionally shorting out?
The led strips alone don't draw much power. But you might have a weak 12v circuit on your 20 year old driver board and need to rebuild it or just install a separate power supply for mods. My AFM board is currently powering a colordmd plus 42 5050 SMD leds on strips.

No colour DMD but the strips are attached to metal. I had no idea they can shorten out but now that you have mentioned it I am pretty sure that's what's happening (thanks for the tip!!!!).
I will place an extra strip of double sided tape behind it to make sure it is isolated. Let's hope that solves it.
Otherwise I will have to buy an additional power source. I like the idea of switching it on to the incoming power cable so everything turns on when the machine turns on. I always disliked the fact that I had to turn on my under cabinet lighting separate to the machine.
