Are you sure this isn't code? If there are balls in the box and you restart a game or there is more then one player, it very well might drop the lid and launch balls into Jackie. The animations will show if the ball will go in or close and hit Jackie.
If the lock isn't lit then the ball will be kicked out, but not with any force at all. Just putting it back into play.
