Quoted from shelby1000:

Yes it's only the left and right lower playfield flippers that don't work. The upper playfield flipper works fine when I push the left button. I ran the ball through the entire game and checked pretty much everything and it all works. Just not the lower flippers.
I did a coil test and they fire the flippers just fine.
The game worked fine a month ago. It sat off for a month and then I started it up and both flippers were out. At first the left one would twitch a little when I pushed the button but now its completely dead. When the game is in attract mode I can scroll through the displays on the LCD display by pushing the left button but the right button will not scroll the display.
All the contacts are clean and make good contact when pushed. If its not the node board I don't know what would take out both lower flippers at the same time like this.

Did you perform a switch test? Did you reseat all CAT5 cables in the backbox?

#4102 71 days ago

Since your flippers work in the test they are not bad but you're problem seems to be between the flipper button and main board .
You may have a break in the ground circuit. To test you can jump the black or black stripped wire at the flipper button to any black wire, shut the door if there's a high power cut out, retest the flipper by pushing the button

#4103 65 days ago

After consulting with Stern tech support they recommended that I try to jump the upper flipper ground wire to the left and right lower flipper ground wires using a paper clip. So I bent a paper clip into a U shape and inserted one end into the upper flipper ground, which is a known good wire and the other into the right flipper ground wire. When I went into switch test mode I wiggled the paper clip and I guess when it made metal on metal contact it fired the right flipper coil and moved the flipper bat. So I guess it's a bad ground connection then?
The only thing that is strange to me is that when I have the paper clip jump in and the game is in switch test mode and I push the flipper button nothing happens. But the flipper coils do fire automatically when in switch test mode and I make the jump connection. If I jump the two wire shouldn't the flippers fire when I push the flippers buttons?
I have a limited understanding of electronics so not sure but at least the flippers fired with the jump connection when I moved the paper clip and contacted metal. Any advice on how to proceed from here? Thanks.

Do you have a voltmeter and know how to measure ohms?

#4105 65 days ago

I have a fluke 117 that I got recently. I really haven't used it much beyond basic continuity testing in an arcade game but I'm sure that I can figure out what I need to do with it for more advanced problems with a little guidance.
I remember that you were the one who had mentioned a possible break in the ground wiring before. Based on the switch test results with the paper clip jump do you think this is the problem? How would you proceed with this? Thanks.

#4106 65 days ago

It sounds like you know how to check continuity or ohms which is the omega looking symbol on your multimeter. This is what you will need to do.
Locate the right flipper then the leaf contact that controls the flipper. Look for the black wire with green stripe. Put one lead of the multimeter on the solder of that contact. Be careful not to short it out with the contact next to it. Power off by the way. Put the other lead on the black wire near the tilt plumb mechanism. See if you have continuity between the green stripe black wire and the black wire of the tilt

I just got thought of something. Reseat this plug. It's on the left side very end of the pinball machine

Also make sure all the plugs to that board are plugged in.

#4110 64 days ago

Thanks for taking the time to send the tips and the photos. Much appreciated.

I did the continuity check between the contact points as shown in the photo (green/black wire) on the right and left flipper assembly mechanisms and the tilt plumb. The check was good between those locations, I got the tone and the ohms were 0.3.

I then did a continuity check between both the left and right flipper button leaf switches(green/black wire) to the same solder point on the respective flipper assembly mechanism and there was no continuity. No tone for either and the ohms were 11.25. There were two purple wires also on the left flipper button leaf switch that I assume go to the upper playfield flipper and that had a good continuity check to the left lower playfield flipper coil. Which I guess would make sense since the upper flipper works eventhough it has its own flipper coil. I guess they're wired together.

I reseated all the connectors when I swapped node boards 8 and 9. Everything is nice and tight. I'll try replacing the 2FT cat 5 cable that runs between the node 8 and 9 boards. It got pinched up a little from a zip tie at the factory. I don't think that's it but worth a shot.

#4111 64 days ago

Well, I told you something in error. I had you checking an EOS switch. You did right if you tested the green/black wire at the flipper button with the black ground at the tilt. You should get a reading near Zero.
The reason I think it's the ground circuit is that both flipper buttons share the same ground, a black wire with a green stripe.
This would account for you loosing both flippers.
In theory, if this is true. You could jump the black/green from the flipper button to the black wire of the tilt, button everything up, and that flipper should work .

If so then it's a matter of finding where your ground fault is.

#4112 63 days ago

You were right. I got a jumper wire with two alligator clips and jumped the right flipper button to the tilt mechanism and both the flippers work now.
Whew! Whoever you are a big thank you, the game is playable again. I've been in this hobby awhile now but this was actually the first time that I had a relatively complicated issue to figure out. I don't think that I would have figured this out on my own so I'm thankful for the support of this community. I learned a lot working through this.

I guess now I start the process of trying to find where exactly this wire broke. I have no idea how it happened but at least I can play the game in the meantime.

Thanks again.

#4113 63 days ago

Glad that worked for you! You will have to trace wires to find the break for the correct fix or just leave the jumper in place in the meantime.

End of an era. I happened to be at the final show…Steven sounded amazing. Truly gave it his all.

So many good memories over the years.

Maybe this is somewhere else in these forums, but I didn't see anything when I did a quick search...

Our Aerosmith pro developed an issue with Node 9 and the Node 9a light board. One day it just started showing that Node 9 was missing and the best I could tell was Node 9 blew up for some reason. I unplugged everything but the power and network to it and it wouldn't boot up.

I replaced the Node 9 board and it fired right back up. The game is completely playable, all the switches/coils are working but the Node 9a light board appears to be dead. I show power going to that light board, but absolutely none of the lights that run off that board are working.

And go figure, that board is out of stock everywhere.

So, my question is, is someone out there that can repair these light boards? I can do some basic board repairs, a resister here and a transistor there, but with most of these modern boards a lot of the components are so small I just don't have equipment to test and make those repairs.

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest reaching out to @chrishibler. He will either be able to do it, connect you with someone that can do it, or tell you it can't be done

I haven't used him personally, but he has a very good reputation.

I have been looking for someone to send my F#$ked up CPU board to
No one wants to try to fix them, or it's pay 1st and we'll see if it works when I am done.

Anyone swapped out the LED board that the toybox plugs into?
The board is not too unreasonable if it gives me a new connection.

Anyone have the topper sold by Modfather?

#4121 37 days ago

I have bought speaker grills.
Every order is custom made.
Expect it to take a few weeks to be built, then right to your door.

Added Stern HD glass.
Thicker than OG.
I could see the difference when only one if my titles had invisiglass.

I have done some rather expensive speaker and amp upgrades to the back box. Frankly, the biggest bang for the buck is to add a powered subwoofer. You can run about 4 pins on one sub with a Pinnovators splitter.

I am getting tired of the lock, lost ball BS
I ordered a new LED board for the PF.
The one the toybox plugs into.
I am really hoping a fresh connector will fix these issues.
I did not want to resort to adhesive.
Stern does not want to sell me the toybox wiring harness to the plug.

Just got a used machine and am new to pinball. Is there a way to reset it to factory defaults and erase the high scores? The menu has a million settings. Also what’s the best way to learn the game?

Yes there is a way. Press your menu until you see the screen with Audits/Adjustments/Etc.

Go down to utilities then Install. Scroll to the right until you see the 2nd Factory install setting (it will say INSTALL FACTORY below it). Do that to reset game back to factory settings.

As for high scores, go into Utilities and then scroll over to RESETS. You need to reset Hs Scores and grand champion separately.

As for learning the game, watch this tutorial.

And for written instructions on how to play the game, use this:

Hi Guys,

New owner here, I'm looking to replace the magnet core assembly in front of the toy box. I can't find anything in the Stern docs indicating any part numbers etc.

Is it the same as is used in Batman 66 ?

Thanks,

As far I know there will never be another productionrun run.

#4137 3 days ago

I hope not,
Coming up on 5 years of ownership.
I always planned to keep it this long.
But now, Aerosmith is the dog of my collection.
Still my wife favorite band,
She will probably notice the hole in the lineup.

Still have not got to tour mode.
Anyone installed Precision flippers?

#4138 2 days ago

You can get further in Aerosmith if you decrease the mode time of each song (I know this sounds counterintuitive). Of course you can increase the number of balls per game.
I'm not a big fan of Precision flippers but I'm 71 years old and frankly they made no difference in me. If you're young they might be just the ticket.
I bought my Aerosmith new (2018?) and just completed final tour 3 weeks ago. I did it again yesterday. Aerosmith is the game I play the most. It's not as deep as Godzilla but still sometimes I like that
