Quoted from pinnyheadhead:

I kind of used to think that also but not really anymore.
I think Vireland is just a super passionate pinhead and wants stern to finish some of their games, like Kiss and AS, they started to make them really great. Also do better on quality control issues. Don’t we all really?
Vireland is very knowledgeable and helps a lot of folks deal with little and larger issues. That is what I come away with at least.

Yeah Vireland is a Dick, but he's still a pretty good guy seems like.

On the topic of the drain from the pops, I agree that it sucks when it happens, but there’s usually enough time for an aggressive save. I seem to get it about every 15-20 times, so it’s not enough to bother me too much. I also short plunge whenever I know I’ve already used my ball save.

Quoted from WJxxxx:

Having seen the code update for GotG, and how awesome it is - I really hope that the update for AS (as the modes are almost a direct copy) is along a similar vein, and we don't have to wait too long for it.

NEW CODE RELEASED TODAY!!!!

Unfortunatly not a lot of fixes or features added...not that the game isn't already pretty solid.

V1.05.0 - April 2, 2018
=======================

- Fixed a time out bug in "Back in the Saddle" where, during the "final shot(s)" sequence, the pop bumpers turned off the lit shot(s).
- Fixed a problem where the game could reset if the display tried to render too many layered images after a foreground display effect was finished running.
- Fixed a bug where the flippers where allowed to change the bottom lane lamps during diagnostics.
- Changed the default speech/music attenuation settings on French games.
- Changed the default ball save settings on China games.
- Fixed a problem where combo shots to the left scoop during Love in an Elevator Multiball were not being scored correctly.
- Removed unused adjustment.
- Added an upper playfield targets completed audit.

- Added AD_TILT_DEBOUNCE adjustment in ms for tilt bob debounce
- System v1.97, nodebus protocol change and node board firmware update.
- At the start of each ball, check if the stgl5000 codec chip has reset due to static discharge and reconfigure register if needed to recover audio playback.
- Changed debounce logic/timing to prevent double start button detects.
- Added USA_12 Coinage 1/$0.25, 5/$1.00
- Added audit for total number of one, two, three, and four players games
that have been played.
- Improved sound proccessing
- Interactively update the backbox brightness while changing Attract Mode,
Game Play, and Service Mode adjustments in the service menu
- Added adjustments for backbox speaker bass/treble, cabinet speaker
bass/treble, and cabinet/backbox speaker balance to service menu
UTIL->VOL. Speaker balance allows lowering the volume level of cabinet
speaker or backbox speakers vs. the other.
- Improved sound issues at power up
- Reworked boot time displays for node board firmware update and locating node
boards.
- Added boot time display for overcurrent detected (shorted coil or LED) on
node boards.
- Added support for dynamic detection and isolation of overcurrent coils or
LEDs. Previous behavior would disable all coils and LEDs for 1/2 second each
time a short was detected. New behavior will determine the short coil and/or
LED and disable only the offender.
- Added tech alert for overcurrent coils and LEDs on node boards. New
diagnostic test to retest node board and report with coils/LEDs are drawing
too much current. Excessive current draw could be the result of a shorted
coil, an incorrect replacement LED/incandescent bulb, shorted light socket,
et cetera.
- Every 15 minutes during attract mode overcurrent coils/led will be rechecked
and returned to service if operating correctly.
- Added adjustment for "GAME PLAY B.BOX BRIGHTNESS"
- Renamed "BACKBOX BRIGHTNESS" to "ATTRACT MODE B.BOX BRIGHTNESS"
- The deprecated BILL VALIDATOR adjustment has been removed.
- Updated Norway coin door to 1/5/10/20 Kr for left/center/right/4th
slot.
- Updated Sweden coin door to 1/5/10/2 Kr for left/center/right/4th
slot.
- Added Sweden 3 credit pricing 1 credit for 10 Kr.
- Updated Sweden dip switch setting (0x0B) default to Sweden 3 pricing.
- Replaced hardware version number with OS version number on diagnostic
screen.
- Added a message LOCATING NODE BOARDS. This will display if a required
node board is not discovered, previously it would incorrectly state
UPDATING NODE BOARD and UPDATE FAILED. The node board number(s) of
missing boards will be displayed and updated as boards are found.
- Updated UK pricing
- Added China dip switch setting
- Added support for China currency and pricing.
- Added support for eWallet psuedo ticket dispenser device. Only selectable
for China dip switch setting. The ticket and redemption systems will
ignore this device if selected.
- Added support for new headphone jack accessory
- Added SWITZERLAND 3 pricing (the new default for games that are DIP-switch set for SWITZERLAND): 2/1 SwF 5/3 SwF.

Pretty disappointing update.

Has the outlane no sound even been addressed?

Presume there will be a meatier update in the Summer with the huge KISS final update

#1206 5 years ago

Sounds like an OS update. It will be interesting to play with the new sound settings.

Disappointing is a understatement.

They need to save these tech updates for when there is something more substantial to update, that is unless there are no more REAL updates.
Is this even worth wiping out all my high scores? And no I don’t feel like dicking with pinball browser just to retain them.

To the home user yeah it might not be worthwhile, but this sounds like some good stuff for someone operating a game. If I were I would certainly appriciate this going out sooner than later.

I'm thinking the same thing, but I've personally seen 3 game resets (not all on the same machine) during a 6 ball multi-ball ... this may be fixed with this update which makes it worth doing for me.

I checked everyday for the last month for a update, I said, I know there was one coming. But for me, I'm not downloading it. Not the update I'm looking for.

#1212 5 years ago

Oh well.

Bring on Summer for more code!

#1213 5 years ago

I told you F’rs this game resets when ill shit is stacked.

Same for TWD. I tried to tell people about the Horde reset bug.

In both cases I was called crazy & then BOOM a code update drops with fixes for resets

From now on, don’t question me

#1214 5 years ago

Skill Shot?
Outlane sounds?
Song selection bug?
Scoring changes?
Score keeping changes?
New modes?
New sounds?

Nothing?

Good thing they got Switzerland all squared away tho lol

Was waiting for a code release to pick up an Aerosmith....this doesn't compel me...

#1218 5 years ago

Come on, it's not like they made Aerosmith worse with this code update.

Some new code is better than no new code.

If we start complaining about getting code updates, Stern might give us the finger for another year

#1219 5 years ago

And that is the true concern here. Why would they release an update that is 99% tech and pricing unless it may be the final one?

We the consumer can say to, this is the final one. This update is 3 days late. The 1st was Sunday. April Fools

We will get an AS update and then and only then we will both get IMDN.

Doh! I lied. I am weak. I have IMDN coming and I don’t even like the band. It will be put next to AS. I did not show Stern. I know. I know. I suck.

Folks will pay a fair penny and drive 15+ hours round trip to pick up your FH. That will get you most of the way there. Eddie or Rudy?? Hmmm.

AS ain’t leaving my collection anytime soon. Most fun game I have ever played. Sugar on a stick.

Uh wait. What is my goal anyway?

Stern is like a Bully that takes my kids college and my retirement money every time he sees me, but I keep walking down his block every year. What is wrong with me?

What is up with you being right anyway? So annoying!

(Lol, just giving you shit mang. I had to)

Mine hasn’t. Yours did.

I don’t think my AS has ever reset. Actually ... maybe once?

My GOT pro has a few times - maybe 5 times since I got it (about 2 months after first release...)

BM66 has never reset. And we are playing it hard out.

Those are the 3 Spike games I own.

Same with TWD. I’ve never had any resets - ever. You did. I’ve never had any SAM game reset, ever!

You seem to have drawn the short straw. I think I said at the time, maybe check the line voltage or something. Seems weird you have all these problems and most don’t.

** I had a GB Pro at my house for a couple of months - when I first got it, it would reset every maybe 10 Games. It got progressively worse and worse until it was resetting every ball! It had a faulty power supply. Stern replaced it and it never reset again.

#1231 5 years ago

I’ll load this code. I wanted to play with a few things in Pinball Browser anyway, so it’s good timing. I’m cool with most of Jacky’s callouts, but the callouts for a few of the toys get annoying after a while (fire truck, yo-yo).

#1232 5 years ago

This is the code that I needed for my EM Jacks to Open. At last, thanks Lonnie

#1233 5 years ago

Such a disappointing code update from a gameplay point of view.
Hopefully there's more to come in the future, don't think I'll bother updating just yet.
More than happy to reset high scores and set a new target, but don't want to lose this just yet

#1234 5 years ago

Everyone needs to realize this wasn't a true code update. For the past 3 months Stern has publicly announced that a "code" update would be happening this summer. The update that they just released was a bug fix update, nothing more. Sit tight people, the code will happen and once it does happen then can we all chime in with how good the update was or wasn't.

#1235 5 years ago

ya the update to code doesn't do much for HUO. I'm in market for another pin. But will hold off on Iron Maiden until I see who doing software. I'm looking at Metallica or AC/DC now. (something with code)

#1236 5 years ago

Wow Great score. ^^ My game still hates me with the drains. Less than 20 games so hopefully she gets better to me. But im also still working on getting a feel for some of the shots. And also ive figured on my LE to get that right ramp shot to go through i need to let loose my left flipper quickly. If my Upper PF flipper is held up it doesnt go through the loop most times.

But best i can muster so far is only a couple hundred million.

#1237 5 years ago
Quoted from rotordave:

Playing the heck out of mine too and for two update cycles resets kept happening. The last update where they removed stacking it stopped.

@WJxxxx, how the hell did you score 1.8B with the glass on? I consider myself a pretty decent player, and my best score with factory settings and outlanes is about 320M. I’m just wondering if there’s some magic stack I’m missing.

I love my Metallica, its just too much fun not to like even though I was never a big Metallica fan. I don't recommend going with an LE or Premium on this one though as there are just too many issues with the Pre/LE magnet board that taint the enjoyment of the hammer and coffin lock mechs.

Stern have addressed the issue with MET premiums. Machines with a metal backbox have a different revision magnet board. Gets rid of 95% of the ball drops from the hammer/coffin lock. We have a MET roadcase and just love it. I would post you a photo but machine is covered and stored away as we are doing a small renovation at home. If you have a MET Prem/LE dropping the balls off the hammer lock, a good Stern distro should point you in the right direction.

While this is true, the failures with revision D boards are more pronounced than missed locks and phantom hammers, these issues result in blown fuses and/or burnt circuit boards.

Likely those resets were a "spike special" where the power supply dropped *just below* the baseline and the machine reset. All the Spike machines can do this trick and it's not related to a certain mode, but only when the machine is under heavy load, usually in multiball. You can open the power supply and turn a pot to up the output from the power supply a smidge so this doesn't happen when the machine is under heavy load (like in massive multiball).

The metal backbox version Metallica Prem here blew up THREE magnet boards over the course of a year before they decided it was probably the system board. They replaced that AND the 4th magnet board and never had another problem. But yeah, that magnet board is a queenie bitch.

#1248 5 years ago

This is the way I'm feeling about this game. It's high in the ranking so it's got to be a blast to play.
I'll be heading to a poll to check it out. This (Met) or That (AC/DC)

This. The original flipper node board had a low voltage watchdog on it and that’s what caused the resets.

The later versions were modified somehow.

Wait, so do the newer spike/2 flipper node boards NOT have that watchdog circuit anymore? I didn't realize they had changed the design...
