Hi All,

Been awhile since I have posted or even been on Pinside (sorry). Back in April 2017 I bought 2 new in box machines from Automated in CT. #Medieval Madness LE (#600) and #Aerosmith Pro. I heard Attack from Mars LE was coming out in Aug of that year and I put my name in for you guessed it, #600. When #Monster Bash came out in Feb 2019 I bought #600 yet again. The later 2 I bought directly from Planetary Pinball.

The machines are all HUO (by me), in perfect shape with very little plays. Matter of fact, they have not moved an inch since they were placed in position:

Medieval Madness LE 110 plays
Attack from Mars LE 202 plays
Monster Bash LE 132 plays
Aerosmith Pro 103 plays

Yeah I know crazy low plays. I primarily play at Arcadia in Portland Maine and playing by myself is just not the same. My sons have zero interest nor does the wife. So interest waned at home and hence the very low plays.

I was thinking of trying to sell all the #600's together as someone must care or does it not even matter? Does whomever has #600 of Cactus Canyon care? Better to break them up and get more for them???

The Aerosmith Pro has the elusive topper and side blades from Stern (Side blades are not installed). That one too will be for sale.

To make it easier on me and my back I would prefer to have someone just pick them up. I am located about 20 miles north of Boston MA. The machines are up one floor in my game/football room.

Thoughts? Is now a good time to sell? Going to move in the next year or 2 so trying to slim the collections. Also have 15 full size Arcade machines from 79'-83' period that have been in my collection for 20+ years. Probably just keeping Mario Bros and Donkey Kong. But that is a different topic for another time.

Thanks for any advice. If I do sell, I will probably post in the Market next week or so after I figure out how I should go about it. Should I list all 4 together? Just the 3 LE #600s? All separately?

Below are pictures. The Monster Bash display in the picture below is perfect, it was just blinking and I caught it at the wrong time.

I realize that after looking at the blown up pics below, that I did not dust the games or clean the glass. When I do an official for sale post they will be cleaned up and new pictures taken. There is not a scratch on any of the games. The only thing that ever happened is the man on the Medieval aftermarket topper fell off and needs to be glued back...

Much appreciated for any advice!
Derek

Few people on pinside will want those exact four games
Few people will have the cash to buy all four at once
Few people will care about a production number that is not a number between 1 & 10

You will be better off if you sell them indivually

Thoughts? Is now a good time to sell?

You'll probably get just as many unique answers as responses. But I'll toss one into the hat...

Now is not a good time to sell. It's more of a buyers market. But what can you do? Try can wait and see if prices go up closer to Christmas. But they might not. Insert disclaimer about everything is regional/etc.

IMHO, the only way you are going to get someone to buy all 4 and "make it easy on you" is if you make it a very good deal for them. Pricing is hard. IMHO, in general, Pinside's prices are now higher than the market will bear, in general. Insert disclaimer about everything is regional.

Oh, you'll find some people care deeply about the number of games played and some people don't care at all. IMHO, it's not the number of games played but the condition. Low games does NOT always mean good condition. But it generally can be an indicator. If you decide to sell, lots of high quality pics is the best way to show the condition. It also shows you are serious about selling.

Good luck whatever direction you pick!

The market is soft for selling, we’re in a post COVID hangover. Not a great time. Those are some desirable titles though so I’m sure you can sell them if you need to. Just not as high as 1-2 years ago.

#5 10 months ago

With all the new machines coming out combined with existing inventory, I think it’s more likely than not that the market will drop further. So wouldn’t gamble things will turn up.

Definitely list the CGC games separately at the same time if you want maximum value. Just reference the other listings in each ad and that you’ll give a package discount.

Aerosmith is a different market. List it separately. Could probably get $500-1000 more selling topper separately.

Those are sad games to have been owned so long and played so little. Good luck! Would love any of those CGC titles. Soft market. Which I'm happy about as a buyer, but I see the regular discounts hitting everyone's for sale ads at the moment. Tough time to sell but those are great titles.

The market is definitely soft. Not a whole lot is selling unless it's a really good deal.

The upside is, even if you price these games to sell, you will likely still get back the money you initially paid for these games. You may even come out ahead.

The market is down a bit but nothing drastic. MM LE was what $8k NIB? Those game are selling for much more then that HUO.

I just got back (today) from an East Coast road trip and on the one night we spent in Portland we shutdown Arcadia. Awesome lineup of pins and the fact they were all $0.50 really sweetened it. Also it seemed like they were all extremely well maintained, and %100 original. Went there with no expectations and was really impressed. Also they had a freaking Ringer, first I’ve ever seen on location. One negative was they played trance music non-stop and it was a bit much for me after 3-4hrs.

Thought that being your home location was a huge coincidence and had to comment, sorry I didn’t help with your questions. GLWTS! (I’d keep all those CGC machines if I were you).

Don’t listen to anyone telling you that the market is down big or something. Those games will still get close to top dollar. The only people saying the market is down big are those that want a deal lol.

I wouldn't say it's down big, but the discounts available certainly suggests the softening as discussed. OP has tier one titles at the end of the day. Doubt he has too much trouble if fairly marked.

I wasn't trying to suggest the market is down big. I have no idea what he paid. Automated sometimes charges a premium for NIB. I figured even if he paid a premium he would at least get his money back and likely make extra as long as he didn't get taken on some of his other purchases.

I'm not trying to get a deal on his pins as I have or had most of them.

Not sure if it is true or not but I thought I read somewhere Chicago gaming was doing another run of Medieval Madness. Not your version I think.

If I had the cash and the room I would love to make an offer as I am sure other people will. As much as I love pinball money is tight for me right now and the NIB prices are only going up and more machines are coming out. I recently finally upgraded to a new computer finally to play or the lastest games and do other stuff on the computer plus have the latest consoles like the playstation 5 and 4 and Xbox, switch, plus a big 4K LG TV for what I spent on those 5 items over the years is way less than a new pinball and I feel like I am using those items way more than a pinball machine. Yes pinball is pinball and it is awesome, I just wish I had the funds to keep up with it all, but don't.

Pinball is really my hobby in my house and my family evry now and then joins and plays with me when they hear me playing. It is hard to sell your hobby if you are not enjoying it with others IF it bothers you or need the money for other things. I love having my machines in a home setting compared to going somewhere where you can't hear the call outs or they don't play as good as what you have home. I do enjoy playing pinball with the family when they join in and playing pinball solo is fun.

Sorry to ramble on but good luck on what you decide.

What I didn't hear from you is you're tired of pinball. Keep what you got and step away for a while. Pinball is certainly more enjoyable with more people but unless you have other priorities / need for cash flow liquidity then be thankful and grateful you have such a killer lineup. If it were me, I'd hold the CGC line and rotate the 4th in and out.
I also have 4 machines and my kids have zero interest in pinball unless it's to show off to a new boyfriend. Pinball is my hobby, it makes me happy and that's all that matters.

Are you more interested in the ease of sale or max dollar?

Selling individually you have more appointments to schedule and more random people showing up at your house. How much is that worth?

Or

Buy a counterfeit detecting marker and say the first person to bring say $41k and is willing to take all four down the stairs gets them.

What a lineup! Sell the arcades except DK, sell Aerosmith, and add Pulp BMF. Then invite me over to play, problem solved!

Agreed. The idea that this guy shouldn’t sell his games now because there’s some kind of rampant “softening” is ridiculous. For those games it’s still nice and hard, totally erect if you ask me.

Plenty of games are still being bought and sold every day. I’m sure he’s got plenty of PMs already

Regardless, that’s not really how you are supposed to sell games around here. Place some ads like a normal person instead of this ridiculous fishing expedition and pay your fees!

Anybody who figured out how to buy 4 expensive games can probably figure out how to sell them.

Thanks everyone for all the advice! After some thought, I think I will list them individually but add that I will give discounts for buying more than one or a best price for all 4. Pick up only. It's not so much the ease but not wanting to ship them and potentially see them damaged.

I am not selling because I am done with Pinball, I just want to make my footprint smaller to ease my eventual move and like I said I go to Portland ME a lot and can get my fix at Arcadia. Speaking on that, they have different music every night so it is not always annoying pounding. Plus on the former I have a son in College and certainly $$ would help ease my mind. Arcadia has MM & MB but no AFM or Aerosmith. I will approach Dave the owner and see if he wants (to buy) them... Good thinking! He'll probably pay me in quarters though to get his money back lol

Again much appreciated! Though I did have one last question. How do most people get paid when dealing with strangers? Cash? Bank Check? Part Paypal (family) and cash? Just curious what is the best way to handle that part...

Cheers,
Derek

Cash. Nothing the other party can reverse. No sorts of checks. No PayPal. Bank wire is pretty safe too but it’s not as easy as cash. Gotta wait for it to hit and it’s unpredictable.
